Chapter 15
The worn path was brighter somehow - more open. The sunlight hit the leaves and cast a beautiful glow on the trail ahead.
I was about to turn the corner when someone with dark hair caught my eye. He was tall and lean. His dressed showed that he was not a member of the royal household but more along the lines of a servant.
His dark hair was pinned back, the slight morning breeze playing with his locks as he peered into the small lake.
A twig broke under my step and alerted the boy of my arrival.
As he looked up, I recognized him immediately. It was the same stable boy that worked for my father, “InuYasha,” I called out kindly. Glad that I was able to recognize him so easily.
He abruptly got to his feet, “I apologize, my lady.” He took a bow, “I will be leaving now.” He made to go.
“Wait,” I called out to him with my hand outstretched.
Cautiously his step faltered as he turned back to face me. His golden orbs swept over my face as he stood silent.
“Please do not go on my account,” I smiled at him as I made to sit down. “You looked as if you were thinking deeply. I did not mean to disturb you.”
He raised his eyebrow at me, “It is no trouble at all my lady, but I really must be going now,” he made to leave once more.
“Am I such bad company, that all must flee in my presence,” I called out to him with a mild laugh in my voice.
I saw him rake his toned hand through his hair. His back was perfectly sculpted. He looked as if Michelangelo himself had spent years on his formation, and yet, he still would not look as well as he did in front of me now.
He turned to face me then. His amber orbs caught the sparkling sunlight as I sat in aw of his magnificence. Something about this man was so…beautiful in a way that no other could be, and it was not his personality that would make me think so. His features, the way they all collided with such fierceness but such softness that formed his beautiful frame in front of me. I felt as if I were the one that was able to see such an angel, my beautiful angel. His presence only I could see, for how…if any other had a chance to witness this - could they not be shaken by his existence.
His strength radiated off of him, but I could also tell that he had this gentleness inside of him. The soft corners of his eyes gave all his truth away.
“My lady,” his urgency knocked me out of my reverie.
I looked up and saw him staring at me just a few feet away. My eyes widened as I looked quickly away. The brightest pink blush painting my cheeks as I heard him shuffle his feet uncomfortably next to me.
The silence seemed to engulf the small open space as I tried to collect my fears. `I cannot believe I just ogled him without the slightest pretense,' I admonished myself over and over, thinking that any chance of him staying to chat with me was gone all the way once my wondering mind got a hold of me.
He let out a long sigh, “Look, do you want me to stay with you or not?”
My eyes widened, he really just…
No…it definitely was not his personality.
I rose up on my feet and crossed my hands over my chest, “How dare you speak to me in such a way!” I fired at him. I could not believe the nerve of this man, this beautiful - godlike man.
His mouth hung open, “Are you not the one who is always speaking about not wanting to have class lines and guidelines? Well I can see now that it was all a bunch of bull,” he replied as he came in closer to me.
I stepped closer to him and started pocking him in the chest, “I do believe that!”
The silence stretched for a few moments, and then he looked down at me with a cocky grin, “Really?”
I could hear the challenge in his voice, but with his unsubtle change of attitude, my flare of rage began to dissipate as well. I smiled up at him, “really.”
He let out a long sigh and hung his head, “I will give you the benefit of the doubt then, but do not use this foolishly.” He looked me in my ocean blue eyes, “I do not give them out freely.”
I gazed back at him just as seriously, “I will try my best not to let you down,” I replied before a smile crossed my face. The seriousness of the situation did not fit the mood of the atmosphere one bit. I believe he saw that too, because his smiling grin shot back at me.
“Shall you sit with me then?” I asked as I gestured to the marble bench.
He looked uneasily from me to the white rock and then back at me, “I suppose a little chatter never hurt anyone,” he replied with a small grin on his features.
My beaming smile answered his reply.
I made myself comfortable on the rock as he tried to sit as far away from me as possible. The silence was becoming a little unnerving, so I decided to break it, “Where do you come from?”
I saw him look quickly in my direction. His eyes wild as if he did not think that I was actually going to speak with him, but then after searching over my gaze…his eyes settled, and he looked at the pond in front of us. “This little village from the east of here,” he began softly. His tone was so quiet that I had to struggle to hear his words, “My mother and I lived there.”
“Where is your mother now?” I could not help but ask.
I saw his fist tighten, “She died ten years ago.”
I brought my hand to my chest, feeling horrible, “I am so sorry. I did not mean to pry. I just….”
He shook his head slightly. His gaze turned towards the ground, “It is fine. I just miss her is all.”
I found myself shaking my head, “I lost my mother as well.”
His gaze shot back at me.
I smiled weekly at him before I turned my gaze to the ground, “I was just eight. She had some illness that none of the doctors had ever seen, but she still lived her life so beautifully. Every chance she had, she would paint or go for walks or help around the house,” I smiled softly at the memory. “She was always so stubborn in that aspect. No matter how hard it was for her, she continued to act like nothing was wrong for the ones she loved.”
“She sounded like a great woman,” InuYasha cut in.
I looked back up at him. His gaze was soft. We came to a sort of small understanding of one another in that moment. We had both loved someone so dearly, but they were taken away from us without us really knowing anymore about that loved one.
I believe that for the first time, I had met someone who would be able to understand me.
“She was,” I replied quietly.
“I bet you're a lot like her.”
I looked over at him suddenly, “how would you -”
He just shrugged, “You seem like a nice person…once you get passed your pompous attitude,” he smiled at me.
Even if he met it as some what of an insult, I was thankful, “I appreciate that. You do not seem too bad yourself,” I smiled at him.
His eyes widened, “I am trying very hard to pull off that attitude; I will have you know,” he smiled smugly at me, his white teeth peeking slightly out from the corners of his lips.
I rolled my eyes as I let out a bit of a laugh, “Well you certainly have done well with it.”
He lifted his head a bit, “thank you. I appreciate your honesty.”
I could only laugh at him.
“What's so funny?” He questioned me a bit uneasily.
I began shaking my head lightly back and forth, “it is just… you seem so serious about this,” I could not go on as my giggles began to overtake my body.
“Are you trying to say I don't do a good job, wench?”
I could hear the irritability in his voice, but he also had this subtle teasing underlying his speech. He could hide nothing from me, “I believe that is… what I am saying.” I smiled up at him.
His face was clear of any type of emotion. He just stared at me for an ungodly amount of time, before a big smile crossed his features, “At least you can never say I didn't try,” he laughed at himself.
I laughed with him. “You will never hear me say that about you, InuYasha.”
My sight cleared then. The bright clear morning turned dark and gray. The fall colors all fell away as the glorious colors of late summer met my gaze.
I looked straight ahead to the pond where I had first seen InuYasha. The cool stone was alone now. No one sat in front of it. There was no godlike man standing just four meters from me.
I gazed at the bench and placed my hand where he had just been sitting. The marble was cool to the touch. A very good sign that the seat had been empty the whole time I had been sitting here.
I felt my lip tremble as tears entered my eyes, “I will always love you with all my heart, InuYasha.”

A/N: Alright, this is the last part of Kagomes POV. I will now be switching over to InuYasha's POV, but it will be a lot more in depth. I had to start somewhere else as well, but you will see what I am talking about.
I hope that this part of the story met everyone's expectations at least a little bit. I have worked really hard on this part of the story. Kagome and InuYasha are so different though, that it was hard to keep the way they narrate the story different. I have been writing InuYasha for song long that it was hard to try and change up the speech and the formality of it all, but I really do hope you guys liked it.
Please leave a review. The more feedback I get, the more work I put into this story.
