*Flashback*
She watched him as she was held back by the next man. She was so scared and it wasn't only her life that was in danger. It was the life of her child as well. From her position she could see the others on the ground watching them not being able to do a thing. She turned her head slightly and saw the other woman being held by a intimidating man. He had raw power radiating off of him and his aura seemed so evil.
She heard the man give Inuyasha an ultimatum. He had to choose one of them. Her face and body was hurting from the beating she'd already taken. She knew anymore of this and she would be dead soon. She could practically feel her body trying to withstand the pain but it was becoming too much. She knew Inuyasha wouldn't choose her. They had been through so much already and every time he went back to his former girlfriend Kikyo.
She watched sadly, as Inuyasha stared lovingly up at Kikyo. She was already resigned to the fact that he was going to choose the other female and she was going to die. She closed her eyes and said a silent prayer knowing that soon she would depart from this world. Even though she had figured she wouldn't be chosen, hearing Inuyasha call Kikyo's name was like twisting the knife himself. She gasped when she heard this and turned frantic eyes to her captor hoping to plead with him.
Before she could do anything to save her life, the other man had ordered her death. She was too stunned and terrified to do anything but cry out when the dagger was thrust into her stomach. Pain like she'd never felt before consumed her and she felt her body fall to the ground. She heard a male voice call out her name but everything was becoming so fuzzy and disoriented that she really couldn't respond. She felt the darkness closing in around her and tried one last time to call out for help. She couldn't seem to find her voice and felt that maybe it was already too late for her. She was going to die and she knew it. In her mind she said goodbye to the world around and gave in to the darkness.
When she woke again it was to her surprise. She hadn't thought that she would survive. Her body ached so much that she thought maybe it would have been a blessing had she died. She opened her eyes and groaned at the pain in her head. She looked around herself but had no idea where she was. She turned her head to the side and saw some medical instruments she was somewhat familiar with. The door to the room opened and she saw and elderly short balding man walk into the room.
"Ah Kagome its good to see you awake again," he told her with a fatherly smile. "I'm doctor Myoga in case you're wondering."
She tried to say something to him but her throat was unbelievably dry. She motioned to it and he brought over some water for her quickly. "Am I going to die?" she finally asked in a raspy voice.
The man gave her a sympathetic smile. "No. you're not. At least not from what I can see but I'm sorry Kagome I have some bad news for you."
"My baby," she said softly as tears sprung to her eyes.
"Kagome I'm sorry but you lost him," Myoga said as he stroked the girl's hair.
"Him?" she asked as she placed a hand over her flattened stomach. "How did you?"
"It seems you were farther along than you thought," Myoga told her. "I'll be right back. I'll tell the others how you're doing. They'll want to see you."
"Dr. Myoga. Please don't. don't let them know that I'm awake. I can't face anyone right no," Kagome pleaded.
If the man thought the request was odd he didn't show it. He said nothing about it but he nodded to her then turned to leave the room. Kagome felt so bad. She felt like her world was falling apart. She held her stomach as she finally gave into the urge to cry.
*End Flashback*
Kae woke with a start and looked around herself. Where was she? She recognized absolutely nothing and in the wee hours of the morning she was dazed and confused. She got out of bed and walked through the apartment. She ran her hands over different pieces of furniture. She walked around and looked over every crevice. She'd remembered Inuyasha had brought her there because she'd been attacked earlier.
She shivered as she thought about what did happen and what would have happened had Inuyasha not shown up when he did. As she walked to the last room of the apartment, she thought about her dream. What did it mean? Did that really happen to her? Did Inuyasha really chose her to die? She couldn't believe it was the same man she'd met just recently. Was that the reason she couldn't remember anything because she blocked it out?
She opened the door to the room and felt around for a light switch. When she found one and flicked it on she almost fainted. The room was filled with weapons in glass cases. She'd never seen such things before in her life and she was somewhat frightened. She walked over to one of the glass cases and looked down at the guns. She saw a small handgun with the engraving of a dog on the side. It seemed awfully familiar to her and she touched her thigh. It was there before. She'd had that very gun strapped to her thigh.
She moved on to a wall that was filled with ancient weapons including swords. She felt a pull towards one in particular and found a chair she could stand on to get it down. When she held it in her hands, she felt it pulse and heard it hum. She frowned as she thought maybe it was responding to its master. Was this what she was? Was her old life filled with violence?
She sat on the floor with the sword in her lap. She was tried hard to remember who she was. She just wanted something solid and concrete. Was she ever going to remember? Why was everything so hard? And why did she forget in the first place?
Sango pulled her shoulder length hair away from her face into a tight ponytail. She grabbed her jacket as she headed out the door. She needed to ride. She needed to sort some things out in her head. Outside she headed to the garage for her bike. Speed always calmed her and that's what she needed now.
As she kicked start the bike, she was surprised when she heard another headed in her direction. She scowled when she saw it was Miroku and ignored him. She steered her bike around him and was about to speed off but he grabbed her jacket and held her in place. She looked at him and jerked her arm to get away but he wouldn't loosen his hold. He dragged her off of her bike and onto his. As she protested he sped off.
Sango knew she could not get away from him now. She could not avoid him and that was what he wanted. She was trapped and there was no getting away until he let her go. Sango held on as he steered them to a secluded spot that was always theirs. It was the place where they first met and first kissed. Sango blushed as she realized this was a place for many firsts. When he stopped the bike, they both got off.
Sango turned her back on him and walked a few feet away. She wasn't ready to talk to him. She didn't want to talk to him. He left her. She knew it wasn't all his fault but his still left her.
"Sango...we need to talk."
"I don't have anything to say to you Miroku," she said still not looking at him.
"Well I have something to say to you. It's been two months Sango. Two long months. I would have thought by now you would've gotten over it."
"Miroku...I lost a child!" she yelled as she turned to him finally. "Do you have any idea how that feels?"
"Not physically no but emotionally I'm right there with you. It was my child too ya know. You've been acting like you were the only one hurting. You never let me in and you never told any of our family about the baby."
"They didn't need to know. There is no baby anymore. It's not important to them."
"You can't say that! They would care about you Sango. It's important to you so it's important to them. Sango stop pushing us away. I love you Sango I really do but you're making it so hard."
"Well if it's so hard to love me then stop. I'm not asking you to love me Miroku. You can go love someone else."
Miroku looked at Sango with a shocked face. The shock then turned to anger and he scowled at her. "Fine Sango. I'll stop loving you if that's what you want. Let's go."
Sango stared at him speechless. Did he just say...he wasn't serious. He couldn't be. Could he? Sango watched Miroku as he sat on his bike waiting for her to get on behind him. He was looking straight ahead. It was like he refused to look at her. With a choked sob she got on behind him. She didn't want to hold onto him but she had no choice. The ride was quick and over too soon. Miroku waited for her to get off and when she did he took off again. He didn't even bother to look at her. Sango felt her heart breaking as the sight of him got smaller and smaller until he disappeared completely. Sango held her chest and thought...What have I done?
Hiten spotted the girl from a distance and smiled to himself. It seemed as if everything was going according to plan. He looked both ways before he crossed the street over to her. He stayed a few feet away from her as he watched her look up at the buildings on each side. Obviously she was looking for something. He walked up until he was directly behind her and was close enough to see her face better.
She was gorgeous. She was not what he expected when he'd heard of the hanyou's miko mate. She must have felt him looking at her because she stopped in mid step and turned to look at him. Their eyes locked for a few seconds and Kae swore she felt some strange power exude from him.
He had the strangest crimson eyes and long black hair. He was tall and handsome but in a scary way. She took a step back as she kept her eyes on his. "Hi," she said warily.
"Hello," he said with a oozing charm. He reached out a hand to shake hers. "My name is Hiten. I saw you over there and thought that you are very beautiful."
"Thank you," she said as she plastered on a smile. She glanced down at the offered hand and back up at the man's face. She placed her smaller hand in his and shook it. She noticed how cold his hand was but said nothing. "I'm Kae."
"Kae," he said softly. "What a beautiful name for a beautiful woman."
"Hmm. May I help you with something?" she asked as she took her hand back and placed it behind her back.
"No. No just wanted to meet you. Well I must be going Kae. Hope fate allows us to meet again."
Kae watched as the strange man walked away from her in long easy strides. There was something strange about him that she did not trust. She seemed to feel her soul shrink away from him as he got nearer to her. Kae shook off the feeling then turned back to what she was doing.
Inuyasha had given her an address that morning, where he wanted her to meet him. There was something he needed to speak to her about and it sounded very important. She was so busy looking for the restaurant that she didn't take notice of the men following her. When she found what she was looking for she entered and looked around the room. He wasn't there yet so she took a seat and decided to wait on him.
It had been about ten minutes since she first entered the restaurant when he finally showed up. She watched him with frown as he entered the restaurant wearing a long trench coat with a black pullover and black pants underneath. She had a lot to talk to him about and she only hoped he could provide her with some answers. He glanced around the room quickly then looked at her with a frown. She began to worry when his frown intensified.
He walked over to her table and took a seat beside her. He placed a kiss on her cheek then continued to look around.
"Inuyasha there is something I need to talk to you about. I had some dreams and in it I died. Inuyasha is something wrong?" she asked him as she got a sense of foreboding. She noticed that he didn't look at her. He acted as if he didn't even hear her. "Inuyasha?"
"Kagome...when I tell you to go...I want you to get out of here as fast as you can."
"What why?" she asked as she looked around trying to figure out what was going on.
"Just do as I say," he commanded.
Kae looked at him startled. She felt a bit scared and wanted to argue but something or rather someone inside of her ordered her to keep her mouth shut and just do as he said. She looked up at him when he swore.
"We won't get out of here the way I wanted to."
Kae looked up at him with worried eyes then discreetly looked around herself. on the outside, the other patrons of the restaurant seemed to be ordinary but if one looked good enough they could tell something was going on. She saw as some of the men in the room kept glancing at their table and knew there would be trouble in a few minutes.
"Kagome," Inuyasha said drawing her attention to him. He pulled her into a hug and her arms went around his waist. When she looked up at him, he kissed her. "Whatever happens I love you."
Kae nodded and looked down at his waist. She saw under his coat were guns and she could feel two tucked into his waist in the back. She looked up at him her eyes widening a fraction of an inch. His look told her not to say anything or question him and she was following that. She saw his eyes flash red for a split second and got frightened. Her focus was on him but that didn't mean she wasn't conscious of her surroundings. Behind Inuyasha's back, she saw as a man reached into his own jacket and pulled out a gun aiming it at him.
On instinct, she pulled the two guns from Inuyasha's coat and started shooting. She hooked her foot in Inuyasha's chair and pulled sending him falling backwards and out of the way of the firing bullets. She felt herself pulled down as well and glanced over to Inuyasha to see he was also shooting at the men in the café. They'd killed the few around them and had knocked over the table to use as a shield.
They were sitting back against back and each took turns shooting over the table's edge. For some strange reason, Kae felt no fear. She felt as if someone else had taken control of her body and that person was comfortable in their abilities and the fact that Inuyasha was there. She knew he would die protecting her if he had to. She felt and heard the clicking of her guns as their clips ran out and then the same happened to Inuyasha's.
She turned her head to look at him and saw the side of his face. His profile showed no fear and she was comforted by that fact. His hand gripped hers and she was reassured that they would make it out alive. She heard chuckling and turned her head in the direction it came from. She knew it was from the men attacking them.
"Well, well, well. Quite a situation you got yourself into isn't it?" asked one of the men. He came over to the table and kicked it down as he aimed his weapon at Kae. "So the pretty little miko is alive."
Kae heard Inuyasha's low growl. He was very angry now and there was no telling what he would do. She watched as the man holstered his gun and turn a grinning face to his comrades.
"They are no threat to us. Its just one dog demon and his little miko. What are they going to do against all of us."
Both Kae and Inuyasha watched as they put away their weapons. She had a feeling that's what he was waiting for. The minute the men's weapons were put away he attacked. Before her eyes, he ripped out the throat of the man before them and grabbed his gun shooting two others.
Kae slid between a man's leg and came up behind him. She'd pulled his gun out of his holster before he himself got to it. He was dead before he could blink and the barrel of the gun was still smoking. She was grabbed from behind and the gun dropped out of her hand. She threw her leg up and over her shoulder to connect with the man's head. He was throw off of her and stumbled. When he steadied himself he was about to attack again but the girl spun kicked and he went flying into the wall.
Kae then found herself flat on her back on the ground with Inuyasha standing over her shooting at a man that was about to attack her. She sat up and grabbed for the nearest weapon. She threw it and the knife landed in the throat of another man about to rush Inuyasha. When Inuyasha offered his hand to her, she stood up and looked around. The floor was littered with bodies. Most were dead and the others were those of innocent victims either hiding or shot trying to get away from the fight.
She heard groaning behind her and turned with Inuyasha to the man she had kicked into the wall. She watched as Inuyasha walked over to him and lifted him by the lapels of his jacket. The man groaned as his head lolled from side to side. He then found himself slammed against the wall again with a growling dog demon in front of him.
"Who sent you? I'm assuming its Hiten again," Inuyasha growled to the man. When the man didn't answer. He slammed his head against the wall again. "Was it Hiten?"
"Y-yes. Lord Hiten sent us to kill you and the girl," the man said almost in tears. Inuyasha rolled his eyes. He couldn't believe how easy they were talking. What ever happened to loyalty.
"Why? Why does he want us dead?" Inuyasha asked. When he saw the man was about to pass out, he shook him till the man came to. "Why does he want us dead?"
"B-Because you killed his father. Lord Naraku."
Kae hugged herself as she stood outside the restaurant. From outside it looked like nothing happened but she knew the truth. She was looking down until she felt something really weird going on. She spun thinking someone was behind her but she only came into contact with the glass of the restaurant. She stared at her reflection wondering what was wrong with her. Why couldn't she remember herself? as she stared, the image began to change and the person she saw was herself but not really. Her hair was longer and she looked younger. The look in her eyes too were different. The person staring back knew who she was and what was going on in her world.
"Kagome," she whispered. That's who the other person was. She was Kae but the person staring back at her was Kagome. The one they'd all been searching for including herself.
"It took me a long time to find you," said a voice from behind her. When Kae turned she came face to face with herself. she looked around her and noticed that her surroundings had changed. She was now standing in an a room with nothing but white light.
"What?" she asked as she looked at her reflection.
"I've been looking for you. You can't just walk around in a person's body and with their memories you know. I can't allow you to live my life."
"Who are you?" she asked although she already knew the answer to that.
"I'm Kagome of course. Inuyasha, the man you've spent the last few days with is my mate. Kae I wanna thank you for being there for him these past days but he's mine and it's my life. I have to go back."
"Where will I go?" Kae asked Kagome.
"Nowhere. You'll still be here. We are after all the same person."
"Oh," Kae said softly.
"Are you ready?" Kagome asked as she took her hand. She watched as the girl nodded then smiled. Soon they both were consumed with blinding light.
"Kagome!" said a voice breaking her out of the trance she was in. she looked around herself and saw that she was still standing in front of the restaurant. She looked over and saw Inuyasha looking at her with worry. "We have to get out of here before the police arrive."
"Inuyasha," she said softly a new light in her eyes for seeing her mate again. "I'm alive."
"I know Kagome," he said as he moved closer to her. He looked her over and sniffed. Something was wrong. The look in her eyes was different from the one she'd had since he saw her again. This one was clear and knowing. "Kagome?" he asked his heart pounding in his chest.
"Inuyasha. My mate," she said before her eyes rolled to the back of her head and she fainted. Lucky for him, he had fast reflexes and she was in his arms before she hit the floor.
Hiten slammed his fist through the wall as he received the news. "Why won't that fucking dog die?!" he yelled to no one in particular. He was so angry right now. Why was it so hard to kill two people. This should have been done days ago. He rubbed his head as he turned and looked up at the picture of Naraku…his father.
"I will not fail you father," he said respectfully. "I will get my revenge on them if it's the last thing I do."
He then walked out of the room to find his second in command….his brother. "Manten. Change of plans. We can't get to the dog shit and his miko so I want you to go after the rest of the family. We'll kill them all one by one."
"Yes brother."
