RETURN HER

 

Kagome moaned as her mind became aware of her surroundings. She didn't want to wake up. She was so comfortable. She opened one eye and saw Inuyasha's face lying in front of her. His eyes were closed but his jagged marks were still there. She touched his marks gingerly, not wanting to wake him up. When he didn't respond, she grew a little bold and traced them with the pads of her thumbs.

 

She was so immersed in his marks that she failed to note a pair of wide open amber eyes staring at her curiously.

 

“What are you doing, wench?”

 

Kagome eeped and scooted away from him. “N-nothing!”

 

Inuyasha grinned wickedly, “You were checking me out.”

 

“I was not!” huffed Kagome, sitting up unaware of her nudity. Inuyasha's eyes crossed as he stared at her and murmured, “Whatever you say.” And reached for her.

 

Before Kagome could move out of his grasp, he had gripped her wrist and hauled her on onto him. “You can check me out all you want, my mate.

 

Ignoring her protests, he buried his face in her neck, inhaling her scent. Kagome blushed and struggled feebly, trying to make him let go of her. Only when Inuyasha growled did she go limp.

 

Her mate sighed with satisfaction and resumed his attention to her neck. Suddenly Kagome's stomach rumbled. Loudly.

 

Inuyasha pulled back, “Now what is it?” Kagome looked down at her hands, her face as red as his haroi, “I'm a little hungry.”

 

Inuyasha flipped her over so that he was above her. He looked her over and saw her bones sticking out. His heart filled with remorse and anguish at the pitiful state of his mate/ His eyes must have revealed his inner suffering because before he knew, he was cradled against her bare breast and she murmuring to him, soothing him.

 

“I would have come sooner.”

 

“I know.”

 

“This is my entire fault. I f I had come sooner….”

 

Kagome's eyes grew bright as tears formed, “You had to train. I get it. But the fact remains that you came for me and we're here. Together. That's all that matters.”

 

Inuyasha pulled away from her, and covered her with his haori, his voice hoarse with torment, “Here. You'll get cold, wench.”

 

Kagome bristled, annoyed, “Are we back to name-calling, you baka?”

 

Inuyasha smirked, “Your baka, wench. And you're my wench and no one else's.”

 

Kagome smiled, “You got that right.” She grabbed his hair pulling him towards her, “And you belong to me.”

 

Inuyasha's eyes heated and he pounced on her, pinning her beneath him. Nibbling on her neck, he paused to whisper hotly in her ear, “You know what wench? I like it when you act possessive.”

 

Kagome moaned, “Inuyasha.”

 

His hand crept down her stomach, “Yes.”

 

“I'm hungry.”

 

Inuyasha's hand stilled as he groaned, “Shit.”

 

He stood up and pulled up his mate with one fluid movement. “Come on. There's a stream nearby. You clean up and I'll catch something”

 

Kagome pulled on her haori, glancing regretfully at her tattered clothes. Inuyasha smirked as he caught her staring at her clothes. He pulled on his fundoshi(I have no idea what its called), and grabbed Kagome's hand, “Come on.”

 

Kagome followed her mate to a gushing hot spring. Her eyes widened in pure joy and disbelief. “I'm in heaven.” She whispered.

 

Inuyasha snorted, shaking his head. Then lowering his head to place a heated kiss on her mouth, he murmured, “I'll be right back.” Then he jumped off into the trees to hunt.

 

Kagome discarded the haori and eased herself into the water. The warmth eased into her body, soothing her. She closed her eyes and relaxed her body. The bubbling water and the release of all her pent up emotions lulled her into a deep sleep, and she slid deeper and deeper into the water.

 

In another part of the woods, Inuyasha raced towards the springs, three dead hares gripped firmly gripped in one hand. He needed to make sure his mate received enough nourishment for her body to be able to adjust to the pup now growing in her womb.

 

He arrived at the spring but his mate was nowhere in sight. Inuyasha growled, dropping his fresh kill onto the moss covered ground. Sniffing the air, he looked towards the water. His eyes widened in fear and he jumped into the hot water. At the bottom, lay his mate, covered in a pink glowing light. Her eyes were closed and her expression peaceful. Her dark hair was fanned around her and still floating in the water. Arms crossed across her bare chest, she looked like an ethereal goddess. Somehow Inuyasha knew that she was alive and well. Some inner voice warned him not to disturb her because she was healing.

 

“Inuyasha.”

 

Inuyasha started. He was still floating in the water. There was no one else beside him.

 

“Inuyasha.”

 

`What's going on?'

 

The same feminine voice answered his thoughts, “You have done much for me and I am willing to offer you a gift.”

 

`Midoriko?'

 

“I can gift Kagome with your demon years.”

 

`My demon years?'

 

“Yes. She will die when you die. And she age with you. You will not feel the pain of seeing her go before you and your offsprings.”

 

Inuyasha looked at the still figure bathed in pink light. `What if she doesn't want that?'

 

“You are putting her wish before your need. Why?”

 

Inuyasha's face gentled. His eyes grew soft.

 

`I love her. And if she doesn't want to stay, I won't force her.'

 

“Then I guess, it will be what it will.”

 

The light surrounding Kagome burned brightly. Her body started floating and her hair flew around her face fiercely.

 

`What's going on?'

 

Kagome was lifted out of the water, but the water rushed towards her, swirling around her while she floated in mid-air. The entire spring was devoid of water as Inuyasha stood on the dry bed, watching in wonder, at the sight of his beautiful mate.

 

He knew Midoriko wouldn't harm Kagome so he just watched.

 

A hauntingly beautiful melody vibrated in the air. Aside from the sound of rushing water and the melody, the woods were silent. Not a bird chirped.

 

Then suddenly, the light burned brighter and brighter and Kagome's arms opened wide as if embracing the light and it went into her.

 

Then she started falling. Inuyasha rushed forward and caught her, holding her close to his form. The water fell around them, back into the empty stream.

 

Inuyasha jumped to safety and grabbed his haori, wrapping it around his shivering mate. Kagome coughed, and opened her eyes.

 

“Inuyasha, I'm hungry.”

 

Inuyasha just stared at her eyes, ignoring her words. Kagome blinked her new golden eyes at him, confused.
