Painful Memories
She was still watching him, the one she despised. She had been visiting the tree every few days for the last fifty years; to make sure no one claimed his life, for that honor belonged to her alone. She was more than capable of killing him now, but she wanted him conscious for it. He deserved to suffer. And so her life had been ever since he was first pinned to the tree, watching and waiting for him to wake up. She would have removed the arrow herself, but when she tried it burnt the skin on her hand, so she waited, knowing that some mortal would eventually be foolish enough to set him free, that miserable InuYasha toward whom she harbored so much hatred. It had been so long that she sometimes nearly forgot why he had to die.
*Flashback*
A small girl sat under a tree, scowling up at the thick growth of branches, contemplating climbing up so the other children wouldn't bother her. But of course that wouldn't work; InuYasha would just smell her and climb up after her as usual.
`He is so stupid. Why does he even try to be friends with those human children? The same thing happens every time either one of us gets within sight of them.' She murmured.
Sure enough, a few minutes later, the usual scream from the human mothers pierced the air
“Monster! Get away from my children! Don't go near it Keifuku! Stay back!”
The girl under the tree flattened her black dog-ears against her matching hair as the shrill cries continued to invade the morning calm. As the shouting died away she could hear him running toward her tree, slower than usual.
“Ha! She got you good that time, didn't she?” She called out to the little half- demon. He came within view and she saw that he was on the verge of tears again, and he was running with a definite limp. What a weakling. She had gotten over the humans' rejection ages ago! They could rot in hell for all she cared.
“Tai! D-do I really l-look like a monster?” He sobbed as he embraced the other child, tears running down his seven-year-old face. The girl wore an exasperated expression.
“You're pathetic InuYasha. To them we both look like mangy beasts, but it is beyond me as to why you still care. You are part demon so suck it up, forget those self-centered mortals, and act like what you are!”
“But Tai, I don't want to be demon.” He said seriously, wiping his tears away. “I wish I were human. Then people wouldn't hit me. You scare me when you talk of becoming more of a demon then you already are. There's no reason to be more demon, that's what's wrong with us in the first place! I'll find a way to make us both humans, then people will like us! We could-”
The girl stood up in a rage. “HOW DARE YOU THINK THAT I WOULD EVER WANT TO BE HUMAN!” InuYasha cowered under her wrath, clutching his ears, but she wasn't finished. “You baka! Humans are weak, petty, and cruel to anyone different than themselves! How could you possibly even consider becoming one!” She paused to catch her breath. During her rant, several bystanders had gathered to see what was happening, hoping to see hanyou blood spilled. The girl noticed the crowd, as well as the terrified expression on the boy's face. She lowered her voice to a more gentile growl, so that only he could hear. “I'm sorry for shouting, but know this: as soon as I am strong enough, I'm going to kill every human in this hell-born city, whether you're among them or not. I've had enough of this human-hole to last me a lifetime, I'm leaving.” She turned and prepared to run through a gap in the on-lookers, when she felt a clawed hand on her wrist.
“Don't leave. Mommy won't like it if you go. I just know if we become human, they'll all understand.” She started to jerk her wrist out of his grasp, and InuYasha's voice became tainted with desperation. “Please, don't leave me! I don't want to be the only one, I need you!” At this the mob closed ranks and started jeering.
“Let's get rid of those flea-bitten half-breeds once and for all!”
“Yeah! They've plagued us long enough!” One of the humans stepped forward with a makeshift club in hand and addressed the girl-child.
“You want to leave us? How `bout we escort you to the after life?” With that the humans attacked.

At the end of the mauling, there was a good deal of blood on the ground; the humans had all gone to their homes, save one. A beautiful woman dressed in several lavish kimonos knelt in a pool of blood, cradling InuYasha in her arms, mopping blood from his many wounds, paying extra heed to a set of four deep claw marks across his front.
“Oh my poor son. If only I had gotten here sooner, they wouldn't have gone this far. Poor Tai. Such anguish and torment in one so young! They didn't even leave her body.” A tear fell onto the cheek of the unconscious boy in her lap. “All of this just because the two of you are neither one nor the other. Oh Tai…” She clutched the remaining child, sobbing into his silver hair. Her tears were for the mangled little half-breed in her lap, who could not see them, and for the one who had been lost, who did not want them. As she wept, rain began to fall upon the grisly scene, washing away a thin trail of blood that lead away from the battle, into the forest…
