“Come on Kagome, We're going to be late. I want to make it there before the movers do.”

Kagome stood in the pale pink room that had been hers for as long as she could remember. Her room that once held so many memories now only held moving boxes.

Ms. Higurashi stood in the doorway of the nearly barren room and stared at the shadow of what was once her daughter. He eldest child who used to be so lively was now a mere shell of her former self. Wavy black tresses framed a porcelain face with a petite nose, full yet pale lips, and hauntingly sad cerulean eyes. A large grey sweater clung to a fragile frame and hung halfway down blue jean clad legs.

“Come on sweetheart. Sota is already at grandpa's waiting for us.”

Kagome turned to her mother with her pain filled blue orbs. “Okay I'm coming.”
Turning her back on painful memories Kagome left the room of boxes. She intentionally passed by an embroidered black duffle that lay next to the door.

Shouldering the forgotten bag, Ms. Higurashi followed her daughter's lead and exited the room.

Before her daughter could see the silver dancer swaying at her side Ms. Higurashi placed the duffle in the trunk of the car. As her daughter climbed into the passenger seat she took one last look at the house and gently placed her fingertips on the white gold band that hung from her neck. Taking the driver's seat, she started the car and pulled out of the driveway onto the street.

Even though the drive to the Higurashi family shrine only took an hour it seemed like an eternity to Kagome. Her past rolled by her window. Everything she had ever come to know or dream for had been left at that house.

When Ms. Higurashi and Kagome arrived at the Higurashi Shrine grandpa and Sota were waiting outside for them. Ms. Higurashi exited the car and Sota rushed up to throw his arms around his mother's waist.

“Mom.”

“Hello dear. Did you have a good time with grandpa?”

“It was okay. Is Kagome with you this time?”

“Yes she is, she's in the car. Will you help her bring the rest of the things in the car up to the house before the movers get here? I need to talk to grandpa.”

“Okay.”

Ms. Higurashi stepped around the end of the car to greet her father.

“Rumi my child. Did everything get settled with the house?”

“Yes father they did. Almost everything went smoothly with the house closing.”

“Almost everything?”

“Selling the house seemed to be the straw that broke the camel's back. Kagome hasn't said more than a sentence or two in over a week. I'm worried father. She barely eats; almost never sleeps, when she does she wakes up screaming; and I can't remember the last time I've seen her dance.”

“Give her time Rumi. She needs to find a way to deal with this on her own. Kagome is going through a rough time in her life, we all are. She'll be okay, as will the rest of us.”

“I hope so, I really do.”
