Inuyasha paced back and forth across the floor as he watched the doctor attend to the unconscious girl clothed in women's pajamas tucked in his bed. The older male stood from the edge of the bed and turned towards him. Similar gold eyes clashed with his own.
“So how is she dad?”

“Well, she's sleeping now. Other than a busted lip and a bump to the head she'll be fine. What happened to her Inuyasha?”

Inuyasha sighed and plopped into his armchair. Grabbing fistfuls of his own hair he looked down at the floor dejectedly.
“I'm not sure, but I have an idea.”

“Does this have anything to do with why you got detention today?”

Inuyasha's head jerked up to look at his father. The look her received was filled with a taunting amusement that screamed, `Yeah, I bet you thought I wouldn't find out about that.'
“There is a big possibility that this has something to do with that. I don't know though. The only one who does is Kagome.”

Dr. Takahashi sighed and moved toward the door.
“Inuyasha I want you to call me the moment she wakes up. I want to do a full examination. I have to return to the office. See you at dinner son.”

“Bye Pop.”
As his father left Inuyasha moved to the bed. Sitting on the side he pushed Kagome's bangs from her forehead. Taking the damp wash cloth form the end table he gently stroked over her forehead and cheeks muttering to the silent room.
“God, I am so sorry.”

Kagome woke some time during the night. Her head was pounding and her body felt like it had been thrown down a flight of stairs. Hesitantly she sat up and stifled the pain groan that filled her parched mouth. The moment she was upright she knew that she was not in her own bed nor was she wearing her own clothes. She smoothed her fingers over the light cotton gown that now took the place of the clothes she wore to school. Focusing her eyes to the dim moonlight that filtered through the window she took in her surroundings. She was in a spacious room that was decorated rather conservatively. With the lacking amount of light she could tell the room was decorated in red and black with wood furniture in a dark cherry. Out of the corner of her eye she caught a glimpse of silver flash in the moonlight. Turning fully she saw Inuyasha curled up in an arm chair underneath a fleece throw.

As quietly as possible she untangled herself from the bed sheets and moved toward the bedroom door. The carpet was plush underneath her feet and Kagome took a fleeting moment to wiggle her toes against the softness. After taking in the guilty pleasure of the carpet she exited what undoubtedly has to be Inuyasha's room and moved into the hallway silently closing the door behind her.
The hallway was pitch black. Looking left and then right Kagome took a moment to decide which would be the best route. Both directions looked exactly the same, so taking the best guess Kagome went right. Feeling along the wall and taking measured steps she quickly came to a gap in the wall. Taking another right Kagome entered at short hallway that ended in a flight of stairs.

Descending the staircase Kagome knew she had found the kitchen the moment her feet touched the tile floor. Despite the chill that wracked her body Kagome ventured deeper into the darkness. Blindly she searched for the counter when her hands flattened against the smooth surface of the refrigerator. Skimming her hands along the surface of the appliance she found the handle.

Clenching her eyes tightly closed Kagome pulled the door releasing the vacuum seal along its edge. Behind her closed lids Kagome's eyes registered the blinding light that pierced the darkness. Kagome stood for a few moments grasping the door handle before experimentally peeking through her lashes. It took a few more moments before she succeeded in opening her eyes fully.

Kagome scanned the room around her using the eerie from the fridge. An island stood in the middle of a vast kitchen with what looked like a built in cook top taking up half of the counter space. Jumping from the middle of the room to the walls littered with cabinets she noticed the glass inserts glinting in the pale light. In the cabinet furthest from her, Kagome saw the glasses smiling at her from behind their insert. Running her tongue over her dry bottom lip she frantically searched the rest of the room for the faucet. Spotting the big corner sink she quickly pulled the first thing from the fridge to keep the door propped open. Placing it on the floor she moved to retrieve a glass an fill it with water. The cool liquid coated her throat and she sighed with relief.

“Very interesting I never would have thought to prop the door open with a jar of pickles.”

Startled by the deep rich voice that chuckled by the stair well Kagome nearly dropped the empty glass and then stood stark still like a deer caught in the headlights. Clutching her hands around the dish she turned to see a tall broad figure looming in the shadows. Fear gripped her tighter than her hold on the glass. Evaluating her situation she knew that being trapped in the corner didn't give her much room to work with but with how big the man's shadow was there was a possibility she could out maneuver him. Before she even had a chance to move the figure spoke again.

“Whoa. Hold on now calm down, Pickle, I'm not going to hurt you. Just take three steps to your left and flick the light switch and see for yourself.”

Not taking her eyes away from the shadow Kagome shimmied along the edge of the counter and blindly reached out behind her. Her fingers found the protruding switch and flicked upward. She winced slightly as the extra light flooded the room and filled her senses. Focusing in on the man in front of her she gasped aloud.

“See now? I told you I wouldn't hurt you.”
He stepped forward and retrieved the pickles from the floor. Barely stretching he placed them on the island before turning to rummage in the refrigerator. Arms laden down with food he turned and kicked the door shut with his foot and placed his haul on the counter top before him. He motioned to the high backed bar chairs that sat on the other side of the island that before went unnoticed. Not making any more indication that he was paying attention to Kagome he made himself busy separating the food he pulled from the fridge.

Hesitantly Kagome moved to sit in the chair. Quietly she watched him as be built a sandwich on the inlaid cutting board. On a slice of wheat bread he spread a thin layer of mayonnaise, then he alternated two layers of what looked like turkey and American cheese, plus a lettuce leaf weighted down by two pickle stackers, and finally topping the entire thing off with another lightly mayo cover piece of bread. After removing the crusts he cut it in half and slid one of the two halves across the board toward Kagome.

Taking the offered impromptu meal Kagome took a hearty bite off of the corner and glanced up into the golden eyes that stared down at her. Swallowing, Kagome place the sandwich back onto the board and pressed her lips together.
“So… um I take it your Inuyasha's father.”

“You are quite correct. Tell me how did you come to this conclusion? Was it my dashing good looks or my excellent culinary skills?”
He grinned and wiggled his dark eye brows at her.

Kagome couldn't suppress the giggles that his actions caused.
“No. Actually it was your hair and eye color. Inuyasha's almost matched yours perfectly. You couldn't deny him even if you wanted to.”

“Ah that is true. Though sometimes, I must admit that with his foul mouth and bad attitude I would like to do so, even if only for a short while just to teach him a lesson. But at the same time the same could be said for my other son. I do not believe you have met Sesshomaru yet, have you? No worry though you will meet him and my wife Izayoi in the morning. Now the more pressing matter is how you are feeling.”

“Um… okay I guess. My head hurt a little bit, but nothing intolerable.”

“Well all the same I would like to give you a once over now that you're awake.”
Moving around the counter he turned Kagome's chair to face him. Taking her left hand in his he trained his eyes on the clock on the wall and began counting the beats of her pulse. A little fast but that could be due to nerves. Afterward he checked the constriction and dilation of her pupils as best her could without the proper form of lighting. Slow, but to be expected. Finally his fingers traced the contours of her skull probing the knot he had found earlier that day. Hasn't gotten any larger in size.
“Just like when you got here the only noticeably thing wrong is a bump to the head and a busted lip. Now would you care to tell me how you came to receive these ailments?”

“Just a situation at school where I found myself not among friends.”
Kagome stated flatly, clearly saying she didn't want to speak further on the matter.

“Very well. I won't pry further. Why don't you finish your sandwich and then I'll lead you back upstairs. You need all the rest you can get right now.”

Kagome finished her half of the sandwich quietly giving Inuyasha's father plenty of time to clean the mess he made and swallow his portion of the sandwich in two bites. After she finished Kagome pushed her chair in, washed her hands at the sink, and joined Inuyasha's father at the stairs. Placing his arm behind her back he led her up to the edge of the stairs and flicked the switch at the door frame.

“If there was a switch on this side of the room why didn't you turn the light on?”

“I didn't want to frighten you any more than I already had. I assumed that if I gave you the power of the lights you would be more inclined to trust me. That and if I had startled you into screaming it would have woke my lovely wife and we would have not been able to have our little snack.”

“Oh, I see.”

“Okay my dear. Here is the room. I want to thank you for having a midnight snack with me.”

“You're welcome and thank you sir, for bringing me back to the room.”

“InuTaisho.”

“Beg your pardon?”

“My name. It's InuTaisho, Taisho for short, not sir.”

“Alright. Good night Taisho-sama.”

“Good night Pickle, see you in the morning.”

“Pickle?”

“For your ingenuity with the jar of pickles. Just a little joke between the two of us.”

InuTaisho bid Kagome good night one last time before venturing down the hall. Kagome opened the door and stepped inside. She noticed that Inuyasha was still asleep in the chair so she quietly closed the door and made her way to the bed. Shimmying under the covers and finding a comfortable spot she realized how tired she still was. Kagome's eyes slid shut as she drifted off to sleep once again.

Inuyasha stretched his arms over his head and opened his eyes. Aside from it being so early it was a pretty good morning. He was lying in bed comfortably warm beneath the covers with Kagome tucked safely against his chest. Yep a pretty good morning. Inuyasha closed his eyes once again to relax but realization donned on him and they shot back open. What was he doing in bed with Kagome? He tried to move her over and slide out of bed but she made that difficult by snuggling closer to his chest.

With Kagome pressed so tightly to his side Inuyasha could feel every curve of her body. His mouth went dry. Frantically he scanned his brain to figure out how he got there when he distinctly remembered falling asleep in the chair. He knew that if Kagome woke up right now he would be in deep shit. Every alarm is his head went off when Kagome shifted again and ended up draping her leg over his waist. Now slightly panicked he whispered her name.
“Kagome?”

Kagome stifled the giggle in her throat. She was fully aware of the situation at hand. She had woken up about twenty minutes earlier to find herself in bed with Inuyasha. At first she was shocked and ready to scream her lungs out. Fortunately for him though she faintly remembered how they came into this predicament. Around four-o-clock that morning Inuyasha's garbled cursing had woken her. He was muttering something about damn doors and stupid ass bladders, so she assumed he was on a semi-coherent trip to the bathroom and decided to burrow back into the warmth of the covers. When he slipped into the bed beside her and instantly fell into a comatose state she wanted to smack him and tell him to get back in the chair. But the rational side of her brain told her that she was in his bed and to just leave him be, he had to make that little trip all the time if he was able to do it without fully waking up. And with the way he was already snoring she figured that she would be up before him and be able to slip out of the bed leaving him none the wiser. However when she woke up she found it very difficult to leave the warmth underneath the covers created by his extra body heat.

“Hey, Kagome? You awake?”

Inuyasha's voice reached a new level of freaked out and Kagome couldn't stop her laughter any more. She rolled away from him and onto her back as the laughter broke free. Tears leaked from her eyes because she was laughing so hard. Her laughter stopped just as quickly as it started when she found her hands pinned above her head and Inuyasha looming over her. She blinked up at him feigning innocents.
“Hi Inuyasha.”

“That's all you have to say? You let me think you are sound asleep while I'm over here freaking out and all you can say is `Hi Inuyasha'.”

“Did you sleep well?”

“Wench obvious I slept well if I can't even remember how the hell I got in my own bed when I know I fell asleep in the fucking chair over there. Wouldn't you say?”

“Yeah I'd say. Especially if you take into account how much you snore.”

“Snore? I don't snore.”

“Oh yes you do.”

Inuyasha captured both of Kagome's wrists in one hand and brought his other hand to splay across her rib cage. Deftly his fingers tickled along the line of her stretched ribs making Kagome squirm. He knew very well that he snore, he'd been told on several occasions that he snored, but he wasn't going to admit to that.
“Admit it I do not snore.”

“Oh… ah ha ha… you snore and… ah… you know it.”

“Take it back.”
Inuyasha stopped the movements of his fingers for a moment. He splayed his hand along the curve of Kagome's rib cage. Kagome's erratic breathing due to her laughter caused his hand to rise and fall with every movement of her chest. He held that position almost unmoving as he gave Kagome so time to catch her breath. When she did she smiled at him and he felt his heart warm at the sight of it.

“You still snore.”

“That's it.”
Inuyasha reaffirmed his assault on Kagome's ribs. Shifting his full body weight over Kagome to straddle her waist in order to keep her pinned down he released her hands to attack the other side of her rib cage simultaneously.

“Gahh… no!”
Kagome shouted as she tried to struggle out of Inuyasha's grasp. Swinging her legs in effort to buck Inuyasha off her lap Kagome managed to kick the blankets off the both of them leaving them bunched up off to the side. Her need to breath properly was becoming more persistent but a want to tease Inuyasha a little bit more overruled that. His laughter joined hers as it echoed off the walls around them.

“Do you give up?”

“Never!”

So caught up in their laughter neither occupant in the bed noticed the bedroom door open. A woman of petite stature stepped into the room smiling brightly and called out in a light airy voice.
“Inuyasha dear it's time for breakfast.”

The sight that her eyes beheld made her gasp and turn toward the door. There in the middle of the bed with the blankets tossed about them were two scantily clad teenagers in the process of who knew what, but whatever it was she knew what it most definitely looked like. A heavy blush dusted her cheeks. She exited back through the door and faced back into the room her eyes averted from the bed. Placing her hand on the door know she gave them a quick apology.
“Sorry for the interruption. Breakfast is ready whenever you decide to come down. By the way Inuyasha, she's very lovely.”

Frozen on the bed Inuyasha and Kagome watches the woman pull the door closed and disappear. They looked back at each other with similarly wide eyes. A cold sense of dread filled the both of them.

“Let me guess, your…”

“… My mom.”
