Rei had been gone the whole day and now there was only a few hours left until the critical moment. Souta and Rin stood outside the fences that guarded the concert area. Rin was dressed to kill, literary, having the most of her weapons strapped underneath the clothes. Souta had some as well, but not as much. They had arrived two hours earlier and now they were giving the guards a free show of how much you could do with just kisses. They wanted the guards' attention so Rei could slip inside the stadium and set up the diversion.

Souta was barely aware of why he was there in the first place. Rin's small hands roamed under his shirt, finding every sweet spot he had. Gods, his pants was going to have to undergo some serious washing after this night. Twice she had been able to make him cum in his boxers without even touching that part of his body and he was glad that he wore a long dark coat; it covered the wet stains on the front of his trousers. He knew that their kissing drew the guard's attention; he could see him look at them with interest.

-          Souta-kun, mewled Rin as his hand moved into her hakamas and between her thighs to find her panty clad centre.

-          Wet my fingers my little bird… let me feel how good I am with my fingers, he purred darkly without playing his part, it was not a game of illusion to him. He really wanted to feel how good he made her right now and he knew that she didn't play her part either.

The guard grunted something inaudible and moved away from the spot, mumbling something about horny teenagers. Souta and Rin looked at each other - the coast was clear for them as well, Rei was already inside and now it was their turn. Silently they got over the fence and were inside the building that held the concert.

-          Are you ready Rin-chan? asked Souta and made her look at him

-          Yes I am Souta-kun. I can feel the flute being near; all we have to do is wait for Rei's diversion, said Rin and looked at her lover to be. Gods, he had made her wet her panties countless of times over the last four hours.

But the diversion was not what they had expected, not Souta anyway. They had managed to sneak up near the stage and they saw Rei in the front row and he saw them. He made a circle with his thumb and forefinger, indicating that everything was all right.  Two seconds later a firework exploded in front of the scene.

Chaos was a factor. Souta had to give credit to his old friend. He still had it… Rei could still create havoc without using too much effort. The fireworks made Ken Fue walk back…. taking his refuge behind the scene. And as soon as he stumbled off the stage, Rin was there to take the flute from his hand while Souta placed a heavy fist in the star's face.

-          Do your thing koishii, snarled Souta as he held down Ken, pinning the star to the floor.

Rin nodded and closed her eyes and chanted a spell that old Kaede once had learned her. The flute began to struggle in her hand but she held it in a firm grip as the last words of the cleansing spell echoed through the space. With an eerie spitting sound the flute was dissolved into nothingness and Souta removed the hold of Ken. The star was safe, the world was safe…

Rin saw the relief in Souta's dark grey eyes and she smiled softly. She knew it was finished, they had done it. They took each others hands and walked away. They walked onto the stage, seeing that Rei's fireworks had worked up a real chaos. Souta smiled even wider. Yeah, his friend could really make a diversion…. But where was he?

Souta's smile soon turned into that of darkness when he saw Rei's body on the ground, bloody and battered. Souta grabbed Rin's hand and pulled her with him as he hurried over to Rei. The people around him were hysterical and screamed and ran all over the place, afraid of being caught in a fire.

Rin was able to create a small protective bubble that engulfed the three of them.

-          Rei?? REI!! Souta called his name, after a few moments, gaining the old friend's response.

-          Hey Souta-kun, mumbled Rei as his swollen eyes opened.

-          Hey Rei-kun, come on, let's get out of here while Rin have the barrier up, said Souta, pulling up Rei into a sitting position.

-          Souta-kun?

-          Yes?

-          Take Rin out of here, there's still trouble brewing, the flute was not enough, mumbled the wounded Rei.

-          What?

-          The flute has gotten to the fucker, get out of here friend before it's too late, coughed Rei, blood was seeping out from the corner of his mouth.

Rei closed his eyes and his body went limp in Souta's arms.

-          Hey Rei…. Rei???

"No… No… You can't die Rei… NOOOO!!" screamed Souta's mind as he shook the body in his arms. But the young man didn't open his eyes again.

Rin walked over to them, quickly put her hand on Rei's throat…. No pulse…. He was gone… She saw the pained look in Souta's eyes and she felt his pain, it almost tore her soul apart.

-          Souta-kun? We need to go back to Ken, our task is unfulfilled, she said.

-          H-he's gone?

-          Yes, he gave his life for us Souta, said Rin with brute honesty.

-          Noooo… No, Rei… this is not the plan, mumbled Souta as he held his friend close, tugging the body of Rei to his chest, refusing to let go.

-          Koishii… we must go… I can not hold the barrier much longer, said Rin as she moved closer to her husband to be. - Souta… love… get up.

-          No…, mumbled Souta, refusing to listen to reason.

-          GET UP!! hissed Rin with her most powerful voice.

-          We can't leave him here…

-          He gave us clues; don't let him die in vain Souta. Come, we must go before it's too late.

Somehow her voice seemed to penetrate the fogs of sorrow that his friend's death had induced and Souta gently laid Rei on the floor. Rei looked peaceful and that made Souta came out of the haze even more. He mumbled out a sorry to Rin, who smiled gently at him. In her green eyes he could see that she too was suffering with their friend's loss.

Souta closed his eyes for a second, gathering his breath before he put his hand on Rin's shoulder. Their eyes met and then she nodded, she knew what he wanted. She let go of the shield that she had been keeping and they moved back behind the scene again. They had yet another task to complete before they could go home and feel safe.

Rin saw Ken in front of her and she suppressed a shudder. The flute's evilness had corrupted the star, perhaps even moving its evil soul over to the human. In order to keep the world safe, she would have to kill him. "He's still human, his not a demon and I must kill him…." the words made Rin's skin crawl with both fear and a perverted lust. She hated pure evil, and that was what Ken Fue now sported in his dark eyes. But his body was still human… which meant - Rin had to kill a human.

Unless somebody beat her to it.

Souta pulled out one of the daggers from Rin's arsenal, and before Rin or Ken could react, the star had a knife in his lower back, its tip penetrating his liver and intestines.  Souta made a twist with the knife before he pulled it out, creating a small fountain of blood.

-          That was for Rei…, mumbled Souta as he threw the dagger away and the star fell forward, face first, onto the floor.

Rin took Souta's hand and gently pulled him towards the backdoor. The guards that had been there earlier were gone and she was glad about it. She didn't want to fight anymore today… she had seen too much already. They had lost a friend. She didn't want to waste any more human lives, because if she was stopped now she would take it - gladly. And that scared her.

Rin managed to get Souta home without going through too much trouble. He was still in a state of shock; the loss of his dear friend had been too much for him. Once she had reached the Higurashi shrine, she undressed Souta quickly and moved him under the cover's of his futon. Not long after it she followed the suit, lying down next to him. She encircled his waist, tucking his shaking form to her body, trying to give him comfort. He had just lost his best friend… all she could do was be there for him. And she would always be there for him…. always…

2005.01.09 - I was not too happy with this chapter, so I have made some changes. Not a lot, but a few.

Ok - I'm bad at action/killing/ and that kind of scenes... so this is what you get from me...
But I  hope you liked it anyway...

Review to make me happy..
