Chapter 2: Hit Me With Your Best Shot

Lynx slinked across the garden till she came to the western wall of Sesshoumaru's castle. It was close to midnight and her friends had left her around two that afternoon. She was eager for some action and was glad the time had come. Deftly, she scaled the wall and leapt onto the ledge of a balcony. The balcony door was open and Lynx slipped through it and into the room. She walked over to a large four poster bed, careful not to make a sound, because she knew how sensitive Sesshoumaru's ears were. There, in the middle of the bed, was the demon, peacefully sleeping and bathed in moonlight.

Lynx walked to the side of the bed and grinned. This was going to be fun. Slowly, she raised her hand and poked the sleeping demon. Quicker than lightening, she dodged his anticipated swipe and jumped out of range.

Grinning, she watched as he sat up and swept the room with his eyes. The honey golden orbs alighted on her as she put her hand on her hip.

"Oi, Sesshou, is that any way to treat a person simply come to ask you a favor? I'm hurt, really."

Sesshoumaru got out of bed and glared at her. "How dare you ask me for a favor after breaking into my home in the middle of the night and waking me up. This Sesshoumaru will kill you."

He was suddenly right in front of her. Lynx kicked his feet out from under him and blocked his attack. She gave him a good kick to the stomach as she leapt away. Sesshoumaru growled and brought out his youki whip. Lynx threw four ninja stars at him, pinning him to the far wall. She knew it wouldn't hold him long, but she needed the time to talk.

"Come, on, I just want some information on the Shikon no Tama Guardians. That's it."

Sesshoumaru melted the ninja stars and took a step toward her. "What are you? You aren't human, and yet you aren't a demon either."

Lynx opened her mouth to answer when he threw his poison at her. She tucked and rolled away just in time, but Shippou fell off in the process. The kitsune landed right in front of Sesshoumaru.

"MOMMY!" the little boy yelled.

Lynx cried out and grabbed the boy, turning her back to Sesshoumaru and protecting Shippou with her body. Sesshoumaru was startled and looked at the two.

"Don't hurt Shippou." She said.

"A kitsune is your son?"

"Hai, adopted."

Shippou peeked around Lynx and peered at Sesshoumaru. "He doesn't act like Uncle Sesshou, Mommy."

"I know, sweetie, this is what he used to be like."

Sesshoumaru was now thoroughly confused. "What is going on here?"

Lynx turned back around to him, putting Shippou behind her. She explained the well and how she came to be here. She also explained that she was a Shikon no Tama Guardian.

"That's why I need information on them, because I don't know much about what I'm supposed to do. Kaede said you had all the information on the Guardians so I came here. What Shippou means is that we know you in our time and you kinda tolerate us then."

Sesshoumaru sniffed the air, but found no evidence of her lying. The woman then took out a long sword. He tensed up, but she merely handed him the handle.

"Here, your future self has touched this sword, you can probably smell it."

He sniffed and found his own scent on it. The smell was a week old, proving the wench's story. He handed back the sword. She took it and smiled.

"I'm glad you don't sleep in the nude, now. One time I surprised your future self in bed and I got a rude greeting when you got up. That was so embarrassing."

Sesshoumaru quirked an eyebrow in amusement, but still he didn't know what to do with the wench and her son. Finally, he pulled on a robe and opened the door.

"Follow me, you can stay here until you have the information you need."

Lynx followed him with Shippou. Sesshoumaru took her to the room next to him and opened the door for her.

"You may sleep here. I'll allow you access to my private library on three conditions."

Lynx turned around and looked at him expectantly. "Before you begin, I'm Lynx and this is Shippou."

"Condition one let me get you some different clothes to wear around here."

She nodded.

"Condition two: take off that mask."

She slowly took the mask off and Sesshoumaru felt his breath hitch. The woman was beautiful. He shook himself when she gave a small bow.

"Hello, I'm Kagome."

"What?"

"When I come out from my mask, I'm no longer the warrior Lynx, I'm Kagome. Lynx is the name I use when I'm fighting so no one will know my real name and attack me."

Sesshoumaru found this interesting, but went ahead with the third condition. "Last thing, you must tell me what the scrolls and books say."

Kagome looked up from where she had placed a sleepy Shippou on the bed. "You can read, Sesshou."

He growled inwardly at the nickname, but his emotions were absent from his face. Still, he saw Kagome smile at him.

"You don't like me to call you that, do you? All right, I'll go with Sesshoumaru-sama while I'm here. I should warn you, though, Shippou will still think of you as his Uncle Sesshou, so if he slips and calls you that, I apologize ahead of time."

Sesshoumaru could feel a headache coming so he tried to finish the conversation quickly. "Hai, I can read, but the Guardian scrolls and books are written in the ancient Guardian language that only Guardians can read. Therefore, you will have to tell me what it says."

Kagome nodded as she pulled off her boots and took off her weapons. Sesshoumaru was amazed at the amount of weapons she managed to conceal and carry.

"I'll tell you as much as I can, unless it's some Guardian secret that only Guardians are supposed to know. In that case, I'll keep my mouth shut."

"Fine, I bid you goodnight. My library can be reached through the door in my room behind the blue tapestry."

"Thank you, Sesshoumaru-sama. I can't wait to see Rin-chan as a child."

Sesshoumaru exited the room after hearing that the wench knew Rin as well. It made him glad to know that she survived to Kagome's time. Perhaps the wench would come in handy with the information she knew. Maybe it wasn't a bad idea offering her aid, after all, she raised a demon child so she couldn't be as closed minded as most humans. Her scent was pleasing, too. Perhaps he could even invite her to train with him, she was an exceptional fighter and he was eager to know the full extent of her power. Yes, she could be a powerful ally against Naraku.
