Zaigou

 

 

Kneeling on the ground, in the fields surrounding the village, Kagome tugged at herb she was collecting, yanking it from the ground. With a sigh she sat back on her heels a moment and pushed some wayward hair out of her eyes. That is when she caught them coming towards her. In the gaggle of children, Kagome saw her ten year old daughter Michiko and seven year old son Ichiro. The expression on her daughters face was purposeful, so she waited with a small smile on her face for them to approach. They gathered around her.

 

“Mama-san, we have a question for you,” Michiko said solemnly.

 

“Yes, Michi, what is it?” Kagome replied.

 

“Who was Naraku?” Michiko asked. “The adults sometimes whisper about him, but no one will tell us who he was. Did he commit some sin?”

 

Looking into her daughters serious, golden eyes, Kagome sighed. She had known the day would come when her children would seek answers. But how could she explain a being as complex and evil as Naraku? Was he a sinner? A shiver went through Kagome as she remembered Naraku inside the Shikon no Tama, its slave waiting to be released on the world again…

 

“It is a sin to desire power over others, and that is what Naraku did,” Kagome said slowly. “He began as a bandit, but transformed himself into something even worse. In the end, he was consumed by what he coveted. I only hope he's redeemed in his next life…”
