Chapter 13

They had arrived some moments before, but she had refused to set foot out of his car. She was afraid, and rightly so. Her mother was most likely planning her death around that time. She knew her mother had strong morals and spending the night a boy's house that she barely knew went against those in the most sever ways.
She was shaken out of thoughts as a strong hand was placed on her bare knee. She could feel the strength he was offering in her time of need. She was quite thankful for it but that thought was quickly ruined as she felt his hand wandering up her skirt. He really was terrible at timing when and when not to do things.
She intercepted his hand and moved the offending appendage onto his own knee. However, this did not go unnoticed by Inuyasha as he let out a frustrated growl. He wanted her but she refused to let him have his way.
Seeing as this was getting them nowhere he smoothly got out of the car and went to open the passenger side door. He found her with her hands in her lap and starring out the front windshield at some unknown force.
“What are you waiting for woman?”
She snapped her head towards him and gave him a deathly glare while she replied angrily.
“Don't call me that! You know my name so use it!”
She got out of the car as their all too familiar bickering began.
“I can call you whatever I want!”
She crossed her arms defiantly across her chest.
“Okay, let me make it just a little more clear to you! Ka-go-me! K-A-G-O-M-E! Kagome! Get it straight you pompous assed jerk!”
He smirked; he truly thought she was even more gorgeous when she was angry. He pushed her gently into the side of the car with both of his hands on either side of her. He bent his head down and whispered into her ear.
“You didn't say that last night.”
She blushed a deep crimson as she tried to say something, but nothing would come out. She was at a loss for words.
“Cat got your tongue?”
She `hmphed' at him and slide under his arms and stormed up the steps to the shrine. She took two steps at a time as her silver haired companion traveled close behind.
She could feel his presence close behind her. After reaching the top of the steps she turned to face him; she never expected him to follow her that far.
“What are you doing?” She asked.
“What's it look like I'm doing? I'm coming with you.”
“Oh…”
“What? There a problem with that? Don't want your mom to see you with a half-breed?”
She quietly looked up at him. She could feel the contempt in his words, she hadn't meant it like that.
“Oh…no, nothing like that.”
“Then what?” He said with a little more relief in his words.
“It's just that most guys would have already left by now, I didn't expect you to stay is all.”
“Well, I'm not like most guys now am I?”
When she heard him, she could feel the slight hurt in his voice. She had done it again. She hadn't meant it like such. It was just that she wanted him to be different from all the other guys, but at the same time she was afraid. Afraid to be with him, she didn't want to cause him hurt, that seemed like all she had done her entire life. Caused others anguish.
“I'm sorry. You're right, I shouldn't have assumed that. Your much different from all the other guys I've known, and that makes you special to me.”
She gave him a slight peck on the cheek and turned to walk into the shrine.
He blushed slightly and answered with his famous `feh'. He crossed his arms and followed her to the front door. It was amazing to him how she could affect him so easily as no other had. He had never blushed for a girl in his entire life and now she had him blushing over a small kiss on the cheek. He was really becoming to damn soft with her.
