"Rin!"

The brown haired girl came into the front room of the apartment, but stopped when she saw the white box in her friends hands, "what's that?"

Sango looked down at the white box and lifted her shoulders, "I just found it sitting in the lobby."

Rin's eyebrows scrunched together, "you know, Takahashi was carrying a box that looked just like that!"

Sango felt her eyebrows furrow, "Takahashi. You mean, he was here?"

Even stating the query in the air felt odd. The idea of the man being here... it was just too weird.

"InuYasha was here?"

Both women in the apartment turned to look at the dark haired male that made his way into the room.

Sango shot him a hard look, "I thought I told you that you were not welcome up here."

Miroku rubbed the back of his neck self-consciously, "why Kimua, I don't remember you saying any such thing."

Going over the conversation in her mind, Rin peeped up, "Wait, how did Takahashi know where we lived?"

The question hung in the air a moment, before both women turned shoulder to shoulder to stare at the man in front of them.

Miroku looked nervously between one very attractive woman to the other, "why look at the time, it seems I must be going – " he said in a mock gesture to his phone.

Sango grabbed him by the collar, "you are not going anywhere."

She planted him on the sofa a few feet from the door, "spill it!"

He smiled nervously at her, "spill what? I have no idea what you two lovely ladies are talking about."

Rin stepped into his view. Her arms crossed over her small frame as she looked down at him, "You claim to be our manager," she told him with poise, "how can you just give our personal information out to strangers."

"From the way they kissed last Saturday, InuYasha is hardly a stranger," he began.

Sango smacked him, "you are such a pervert, Sakamoto!"

"At least he admitted," Rin continued. Her cold stare beating down on the man.

He twitched slightly before his shoulders fell, "fine. I surrender. I told him," he confessed, knowing he would rather be on the receiving end of the women in front of him then his half demonic friend.

"I knew something weird was going on when he showed up at the door," Rin remarked triumphantly. Glad that the man spilled the beans and feeling quite accomplished.

"Too bad Kagome left though."

Miroku turned towards the girl, "left... with InuYasha, right?"

Rin scrunched her eyebrows together, "no. She had a date with," she paused a moment before she looked to Sango, "what was his name?"

"Another Takahashi."

Miroku shook his head slowly in disbelief. "Please tell me this Takahashi happens to have a given name other than Sesshoumaru."

Sango smiled, "nope. Sensei Takahashi Sesshoumaru."

Miroku leaped from his spot on the couch, 'this cannot be good.'

"Takahashi."

The small mumbled name had Tougaou quickly turn to face the brown haired woman.

"Sesshoumaru, InuYasha, now."

The brothers' did not need any further instruction as their father made his way into the study.

Sesshoumaru without so much as a backward glance made after his father, but InuYasha stayed behind a moment.

He glanced over at Kagome as if seeing her for the first time. She did look rather beautiful in the traditional dress. 'Bet the bastard picked it out,' he grumbled to himself when he finally moved to follow his father's orders.

He saw her look after him with that unreadable expression still casting a glow on her features, but he tried not to dwell on it as he finally made his way into the study.

His father was leaning against his large wooden desk, "close the door."

It was a simple order, but he really did not feel like being some servant boy for his old man, but the thought of the pounding he would receive if he didn't listen outweighed any urge he might have to grumble at his sire's command.

As soon as the door was closed, InuYasha swiftly ran over to Sesshoumaru and tried to punch him in the face, "what the fuck do you think you are doing?"

He missed, which wasn't unusual. He had not planned on hitting him, but he did want to get the other man's attention.

"Baka, I am allowed to do what I want," Sesshoumaru replied without batting an eye.

InuYasha felt the beast inside him increase in anger. His brother was testing his patience.

"What is this girl to you, InuYasha?"

He turned his hard golden eyes on his father, fist clenched. "That wench means nothing," he told him unabashed.

The Inu no Taisho looked at his son skeptically, "then... this show of theatrics is for entertainment?"

Sesshoumaru gave out a small chuckle, and InuYasha turned his angered gaze at the other man, "He knows what he did. He should be the one on question here, not me."

The older youkai hung his head, knowing he was getting nowhere with his son, "be that as it may. The girl is human, so even if she does smell more like you then Sesshoumaru, I cannot dictate who occupies her time."

InuYasha opened his mouth in retort, "the hell you don't."

Sesshoumaru stepped in InuYasha's line of sight, so he was only a few feet from the young demon, "you had better watch your tongue, brother."

InuYasha looked his brother right in the eye, "do not test my patience bastard," but without another word he left the room.

Ayame looked over at her friend. She could tell from her scent what she was thinking, but she could do nothing to alleviate the tension from the girl. She was not about to have the wrath of Inu no Taisho on her, even with Koga getting off the hook, she knew she could not chance it.

Faster then should have been possible, Kagome turned to face her. "So, why exactly are you and Yoshida here?"

Ayame looked worriedly at Koga, but before she could answer. "Oh, Kagome, you must look at the new tile I had put in the bathroom," Mrs. Takahashi cut in.

Kagome looked over at the Lady of the House and smiled timidly, giving Ayame an arched eyebrow before scooting off with the woman.

"There is no way she is going to let us off the hook is there," Koga asked her quietly when the two humans made their way further into the home.

Ayame slowly felt her shoulders slump, "No."

InuYasha threw the doors of his fathers office open and immediately made his way up the stairs.

Tougaou watched his younger son defiantly travel up the stairs, but was rather surprised to see him exude effort in trying to appear human in his travels.

Sesshoumaru came next to him.

"Is she the one?"

Tougaou arched an eyebrow at his eldest son, but did not give away any type of emotion, "this early in the game, it is too hard to tell," he answered seriously.

His youngest had always been wreck-less, and when he wanted a girl... he usually got his way, 'but this one,' he thought, 'she is different somehow.'

'But still,' he wondered. "Sesshoumaru." He knew what he needed to ask, but finding the right words... that was a different matter entirely.

Sesshoumaru closed his eyes briefly a moment. "I am not sure," he told his father, answering his silent request, and he was not.

'This woman,' he grumbled to himself. 'Why do I feel such a connection to her?'

He had never felt that way about a mere mortal, so it surprised him when weird tendrils of feelings came rushing around him from simple glances of the human girl.

'But, her soul...' He shook his head. He knew, without a shadow of a doubt, even if she did not, that her soul belonged to another.

"The strings of fate certainly are remarkable," he told his father before he walked over to the main room where all the guest of the party would be waiting.

The dark haired male ran his hands through his cropped hair for what felt like the millionth time that night. He just could not understand why.

Why did Sesshoumaru bring her?

Why did he want to bring her?

Finally, plausibly the most unnerving of them all, why the hell did he care?

Ultimately, defeated, he fell onto his bed. "This day just could not get any worse," he grumbled out loud.

He closed his eyes, but then a slight growl escaped his mouth when he caught that fucking scent.
"You better come out wolf," he barked to the man.

Koga gave him a slight grin, before he made his way fully into the room.

"Why the hell do I have the privilege of catching a lovely whiff of you?" InuYasha grumbled still on the bed, arm laying somewhat peacefully over his troubled thoughts.

"Listen, about what your brother did, it wasn't right... okay," he told the man. It was not an apology for how things ended with him breaking the code and all, but it was as close as the mutt was going to get.

"Half-brother. You can say that again," InuYasha replied, not at all moving from his laying position on his comforter.

Koga rolled his eyes, "if you like her why don't you tell her."

Koga was really getting annoyed with the other man's childish behavior.

Still feigning as if the daunting question had no disturbance to him, "what makes you think there is feelings there, wolf-shit?"

Koga gave him a bored expression, before he slowly shook his head, "it's sad. Something so wonderful right in front of you, but your too scared to say it like you smell it."

But then slowly, Koga's eyes widened.

'Ayame.'

He tightly closed his eyes. He had been doing the same thing, but at least he was not foolish enough to leave her like that.

"Just, get your shit together," and with that the wolf prince was gone.

InuYasha cracked an eye open to the doorway the demon stood not moments ago. "What the hell was that dumb wolf talking about," he grumbled as he got off the bed.

He made his way to his old closet to get out more formal clothes, finally feeling like he could enjoy the party.

"This is truly a remarkable home," Kagome whispered, feeling slightly overwhelmed at the immaculate estate.

Izayoi came closer to the girl and locked arms, "Kagome, dear, I don't want you to feel uncomfortable," she told her honestly.

She smiled sheepishly at the other woman. Mrs. Takahashi had a way of knowing exactly how she was feeling, even when she stated no such thing. "I am such an open-book," she grumbled as she felt the flush creep unto her cheeks.

The woman laughed slightly at the poor girl in front of her, "No, I just know what it is like... feeling like an outsider and all," she began.

The slight change in demeanor took Kagome off guard, but she finally got the courage to ask what she had been wondering since she found out, "what is he like... like really?"

Izayoi smiled at the young woman. She didn't need clarification on whom she was speaking of, the eloquent way she whispered her sons family name gave her all the indication a mother needed, "he is kind and gentle, although I would be lying to you if I didn't add overwhelmingly stubborn," she told her with a wink.

Kagome chuckled, "I certainly know what you mean."

"So, how did you two meet?"

Kagome felt a blush stain her cheeks. There were many flashes of images that raced through her mind over the past three weeks, since she met him, but still... "I met him through Sakamoto Miroku."

"Miroku?"

That answer was a little unexpected with recent turn of events.

"They are close friends, from what I gather," Kagome replied as she lowered her head, beginning to regret choosing Miroku as their meeting associate. A pervert in hand...

"They have been best friends since the beginning. Frankly I am surprised he is not here tonight."

Kagome looked over at the gentle woman, her eyes silently pleading for something, though for what? She was not sure.

"Why would Sakamoto be here tonight?"

Izayoi widened her brown eyes before a small smile made its way across her face, "Sesshoumaru did not tell you?"

When the other woman slightly shook her head, she had to try and not give out a sigh.

'What is that boy thinking?'

Without another indication she turned to the young girl. Her kind blue eyes speaking to her in a way only a mother could understand, and she knew what those gentle azure orbs held in them. The truth of all the confusion and hesitation, it was all obvious.

'She cares for him.' To what depth, she did not know, but there was no indication to deny that the swirls of emotion were feelings for her son.

"It is InuYasha's welcome home party."

As Sesshoumaru disappeared from his line of sight, Tougaou silently made his way back into the study.
The call that he was about to make had always been imminent, but it was never the right moment. He was still too young – too unlearned, 'but now,' he shook his head. He could not chance it.

He waited until the other man picked up the phone. "Send the item," he calmly stated into the phone.

"You have found her," came the mans skeptical voice.

He did not deny that the Lord of the Dogs was wise, but "He is just a pup."

Tougaou let out a small chuckle. Had he not known the demon on the other end, the slight ease of character would not have taken place, "believe me, I know."

The room was silent before he thought back on Sesshoumaru's words. Never before had he heard something so profound coming from his eldest sons lips, "But you cannot change the strings of fate," and then he hung up the phone, making his way back to the party.

A/N: mysterious phone call? Hmm.

I hope every one is enjoying this story. I am definitely trying to make it my own. This chapter was slightly difficult to write. I knew I wanted to get here. I just did not know how it would happen, but I am glad for the slight writers block, since a lot more tension has been cleared up.

I am still looking for suggestions, so if anyone wants to see anything happen, let me know :)
