After feeling like he was dressed acceptably, InuYasha made his way down stairs to the main floor of his parents estate. He was glad that his mother talked him into keeping some clothes at their place, but he would never admit that the idea actually did come useful.
He smirked, 'mom always knows best.'
Just as he made his way to the bottom of the stairs he heard the woman of his thoughts. He made his way over to her, but when he reached the opening of the room he thought his breath might leave him.
"Higurashi-san."
Both women turned to look at who had called the younger woman's name, and Mrs. Takahashi almost blushed when she realized it was her son from how much feeling came from the one uttered name.
Kagome, though, did blush.
InuYasha was stuck to his spot, but when he noticed how uncomfortable his mother looked, he was reminded where he was, and more importantly who he was in front of.
"Have I told you that I love you today, ok?san ," he told her as he came next to her. His arm wrapped securely over one of her shoulders.
Izayoi just waved her son off. "You only say that when you want something," she told him with a grin.
The answering grin was all his mother needed as proof that she was correct, "you wound me, woman."
She rolled her eyes. "I need to look for your father," she replied as she excused her way from the room.
InuYasha stuck his hands in his pockets as he watched his mother leave, before he turned back to look at Kagome.
She was biting slightly on her lower lip. A sure sign that she was feeling awkward.
He let out a small chuckle, "join me, will you?"
Kagome was taken off guard when he offered her his arm, but without hesitation, she nodded her head as she took his outstretched arm.
"Did mother show you the entire house?"
She looked over at him as he grinned at her. She knew that he was teasing his mother and trying to lighten the mood.
She quickly shook her head, "well, actually, we only got to the bathroom and then the library."
He let out a louder laugh this time, "I promise she takes guest on that walk, and we don't see them for like five hours."
Kagome felt her eyes widen, "five hours?"
It was sort of hard to believe. 'Would it really take five hours to show a guest this enormous house?'
Looking at her puzzled face as she brought her hand to her chin, InuYasha was almost certain he knew what she was asking herself. He did play this role quite often. Whenever there was a girl he wanted to bed, he acted this part. Women loved a guy they felt they could open up to. "No," he told her simply.
Her eyes widened at him, "No."
He smiled slightly, "you were just asking yourself if it would really take that long... and the answer is no."
She blushed before a small laugh escaped her, "so now, Takahashi is a mind reader?"
He lifted his shoulders. This was the normal conversation. She was playing right into her part.
"I am sometimes."
He stopped walking as he looked around them.
Kagome couldn't help but look around as well, wondering what on earth he was doing.
He came close to her, "but you have to promise," he began.
He was so close. Too close.
"Not to tell anyone."
The blush on her cheeks only increased as she felt a full on fit of laughter escape her. "Ah, so now I know all your secrets."
He scratched the back of his head, "I never said I was hard to figure out."
She locked gazes with him.
He almost felt like giving himself an imaginary high five. The act was going perfectly.
He leaned closer to her, and he saw how her bright azure eyes widened, but she did not pull away.
He was so close to his destination.
He only needed a few more inches and then –
"Kagome?"
InuYasha tightly closed his eyes. He had to will away the rise to kill whoever wished for their death by interrupting him.
Kagome's eyes widened, "Akio!"
She could not believe it.
He smiled at her as he came closer. "I thought it was you."
He stopped when he saw the death glare that InuYasha was giving him, but completely ignored the other man, "what are you doing with this loser?"
The blush came upon her cheeks as she thought through how rude that statement was, but before she could say anything –
"What are you doing here, bastard?"
Akio grinned at the slightly taller man.
When Kagome looked between the two, she was slightly taken off guard by how much they looked a like.
Akio was only a hair shorter, but they had the same type of build. They were both darker complected then most, but the only difference was Akio had red hair, whereas InuYasha had black.
"Are cousins not allowed to attend the party of the great InuYasha?"
InuYasha narrowed his eyes at the man before him, "not when those cousins have a habit of stabbing you in the back."
Akio rolled his eyes, "Yeah, cause she really was yours to begin with."
Kagome could only stare at the two men before her. It was a weird sort of feeling. 'Was InuYasha hostile with every man that he knew?'
'Sesshoumaru?' She questioned herself, but that was an immediate yes.
'Yoshida?'
She rolled her eyes.
'Sakamoto?'
She narrowed her eyes. Hostile would not be the perfect word. They did get along better then most, but still... 'he will be on the list.'
'And now,' she thought as she turned back to the conversation.
"She didn't like you," InuYasha barked at him.
'Akio.'
'Seems like it.'
Akio rolled his eyes as he turned to Kagome, "would you care to accompany me?"
Kagome felt a blush align her cheeks. She looked to InuYasha who only stared at the man with a look akin to a fish out of water, before she turned back to the red haired male, "sure."
Akio smiled as she took his arm. "Catch you later, bastard," he called to InuYasha over his shoulder.

"So," Akio began once he knew they were out of earshot from the hanyou. "What did my cousin have to kill in order to have the presence of Higurashi Kagome?"
He was glad to see his childhood friend. It had been too long.
The blush on her cheeks was imminent. Akio, although unbeknown to him, had always been on her list of cute guys since high school, but they never had a relationship where talking was involved. They had classes together every so often through their four years at Tokyo High but that is where their relationship ended. They were just in different circles passed middle school, and their relationship fell apart.
"Did you not hear? I no longer require sacrifice," she kidded with him.
He flashed her a large grin, before a small laugh escaped his mouth. "Well it's good to hear some things have changed."
She lifted her shoulders, "you have to grow up sometimes."
He nodded his head, "And Aishiteru, is that long and gone?"
Her blue eyes widened as she looked to her feet. "Actually, no," she told him sheepishly.
He grinned, "that's good to hear."
He could tell that she was beginning to become awkward. She kept looking at everything but him.
She lightly nodded her head. Finally, they made their way into the main room.
"Roku, look who I bumped into," Akio called.
Immediately, a slightly younger man came closer to them as his bright amber eyes widened. "Kagome!"
The small smile on her face quickly escalated, "Roku!"
She could not believe it. She had not seen the man in over two years.
His eyes roamed over her small frame, "you look great. Like you have not changed a day," he told her seriously.
Kagome shook her head, "please, look at you," she told the dark haired male in front of her.
He lifted his shoulders, "I try."
She laughed at that.
"So, Kimura with you?" Roku asked when he began looking for the woman that was attached to her hip back in high school.
Kagome let out a giggle, "actually no. She has another pervert that is after her these days."
Roku widened his ocher eyes, feigning hurt, "You wound me, Kagome. You should know that I was anything but a pervert."
She laughed. "To all the other girls in Aishiteru, maybe," she continued. "But Sango," she replied shaking her head.
Akio laughed at the banter between the two, "she has got you there, ot?tosan."
Roku looked at his brother, before he turned his head with a marked frown, "I am always so misunderstood."
Kagome let out another laugh. She was happy. For the first time that night, she thought that everything might turn out alright.

Miroku looked at his phone, "Damnit."
An hour had already passed since he left Sango's house, and he wished he was not too late.
Finally, the estate that he knew all too well came into view. It was a house he partially grew up in after all.
He saw Tenchi at the gate, "Hey tench-Meister, care to let an old friend in?"
The older man looked at him. He had not seen the dark haired male in about seven years, so to see him all grown up was an odd thing. "I am sorry. Do I know you?"
Miroku sighed as he felt his sweat drop, "it's me. Sakamoto."
When the man in front of him gave no indication that he knew who he was, "the perverted trouble maker," he replied quietly. He didn't think the nickname fit him at all.
Suddenly, Tenchi smiled at him, "Oh, Miroku. Long time no see."
Miroku slowly nodded his head, "it has been a while."
Tenchi nodded his head in return, "So, what can I do for you?"
Miroku's eyes widened. He knew the man in front of him was messing around with him, but he knew now was not the time to procrastinate. "Listen, I am sorry for fondling your girlfriend, okay. I was ten and curious."
The other man rolled his eyes, "still a pervert though," but finally he pushed the button to open the gate.
"Catch you around," Miroku replied as he pushed the gas pedal down.
Tenchi shook his head, "Megisa has yet to let me live that down."

InuYasha could only stand in the hallway.
"That bastard really is a piece of work," he grumbled.
He could not deny that they were so much alike that it was scary at times. Add to that their need to go for the same girl. "Every fucking time," he grumbled as he made his way into the library.
He just needed to sit. He didn't want to make a fool of himself. He had his brother and Akio to press his buttons, and if he wanted to have Higurashi were he wanted her... things had to go right. They just weren't going correctly as of late.
"InuYasha."
He turned around to see his brown haired friend. "Miroku," he replied as he lifted an eyebrow. He did not remember inviting him.
His friend let out a large breathe. "Good. I caught you before anything happened."
InuYasha crossed his arms over his chest and gave the man a deadpanned look, "if you mean Sesshoumaru showing up with Higurashi and then my cousin stealing her away, then no, you are way too late."
Miroku felt his shoulders slump, "you mean to tell me I drove all this way only for nothing to have happened."
InuYasha rolled his eyes, "sorry. There is no show tonight."
His friend stood back up, "oh well. A party is a party. Where is your mother? I have not
seen her in a while," he asked as his hands worked together.
InuYasha furrowed an eyebrow at him, "if you like your dick I would keep away from my mom. Ot?san was not very happy to hear about you giving her that... what did she call it?" He asked as he brought a hand to his chin, "rear a nice dusting."
Miroku turned his face away as it began to burn, "I didn't actually mean for that to happen," he tried explaining.
InuYasha shook his head, "whatever. She said you can't help yourself, but if I ever hear you pulling that shit again, my father will be the least of your concerns," he told the man in front of him as he poked him in the chest.
Miroku held up his hands, "Okay, I hear you."
He definitely did not need both demons after him.
Finally, InuYasha made his way into the study.
"Where is that stupid book," he grumbled as he looked over his fathers private collection.
"Is there something I can help you with?"
InuYasha shook his head as he rolled his eyes, "no."
Miroku was on the list of the people he did not want to see at the moment. It seemed the longer the day lasted, the longer his list became.
Miroku lifted his shoulders as he started looking over the titles of books along the side of the doorway.
"Reincarnation, spell potion, ah, here is one: the Code."
InuYasha quickly turned around when he heard the title.
Miroku reached to pick it up, "shit!"
InuYasha stopped short when the blast hit his friend and the book dropped to the floor.
Slowly, he reached to pick it up. Hoping that he wouldn't get the shock of his life, but when his hand came in contact with the worn leather binding, he was relieved when no energy emerged. "Humans are not supposed to touch it," he replied finally, which he did know, but since he was half-human he did not know how the spell would react to him.
Miroku clenched his hurt fist in his other hand, "a little heads up next time would be nice."
InuYasha let out a snort, "If you were not so curious there would be no need for a next time."
"Why is there a spell on it in the first place," Miroku asked when he stood next to InuYasha.
InuYasha flipped quickly threw the book. He was looking for a certain topic. "Humans cannot know about our kind. It has been that way for about three hundred years."
Miroku felt his eyes bug out of his head, "300 hundred years. Okay, wait... how old are you?"
He never thought that his friend could be any age other then what he was.
InuYasha rolled his eyes, "How old are you dip shit?"
"Twenty-one," Miroku replied hesitantly.
InuYasha rolled his eyes. Sometimes he hung out with the most dense humans.
When he knew he was not going to get an answer from the hanyou, Miroku came to stand closer to InuYasha. He wanted to see what was in the book after all.
"Auras, Sacrifices, Mating Rituals," Miroku mused aloud, "wait, we might want to read more about that."
InuYasha knocked his friends hand from his shoulder, "Not now, pervert."
There was a specific topic that interested him.
"Dopplegangers," Miroku read aloud when InuYasha got to the page and sat on it the longest.
He arched an eyebrow at the other man.
"Someone that looks the exact same as another person yet not a twin. Ghost identical to a living person: an apparition in the form of a double of a living person," InuYasha stated aloud as he read the text.
"Why are you reading about Dopplegangers?"
InuYasha shook his head, "I don't know how to explain it, but..." He stopped and closed the book, "it's stupid."
"If it makes you read anything, it can't be stupid," Miroku told him seriously.
"Hey, what's that supposed to mean?" He asked as he turned to face his so called friend.
Miroku raised his hands, "I did not mean anything crude by it... just take it more seriously."
InuYasha let out a deep breath, "I... in my dream. I keep seeing this woman."
Miroku felt a smile come over his face, "this sounds like a good dream to me."
InuYasha set his hard golden eyes on the man before him, "this woman looks exactly like Higurashi," he continued.
Miroku's smile got wider.
InuYasha rolled his eyes and bopped the man over the head, "no use in talking to a pervert," he complained as he left the study with the book in his hand.
Miroku rubbed his head as he follow his friend. "I want to hear more about your obsession with Higurashi," he grumbled.
'The thing was... it was not Kagome.'
He lifted the leather bound book up to his face as he studied the cover, "I need to ask father about this."

A/N: So, if anyone can't figure out who I decided to make Akio look like then you should definitely check out Takahashi's newest manga Kyokai no Rinne. It is amazing. I actually might start a story for that manga soon... I love it so :)
On another note, I hope everyone enjoyed this chapter. I am going to write as much as I can while I am out on break. I am still having writers block, but I usually go through options of where I can take this chapter, and it usually works out. Plus I think of new ways to spin this story.
