InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Sealed Away ❯ School ( Chapter 4 )
I do not own the anime/manga Inuyasha, nor any of the characters in here. Rumiko Takahashi does own them, and I give all credit to her. This story idea is original, however, and I would appreciate if no one copied my story itself. Thank you.

Kagome turned over sleepily as a few bars of sunlight streamed into her room, disturbing her sleep. For some reason, she slept well, and felt refreshed. She clearly remembered that empty feeling from the first dream that she had, and she wondered what had made it so different for her this time. Her gaze fell upon the figure of Inuyasha, who seemed to be floating over her bed, chin propped up on one hand, looking at her with a look that she couldn't decipher.
"Inuyasha? How'd I get back to my room? I don't remember falling asleep this time…" He grinned. "Ya must've been more tired than you thought, then, Kagome. Ya walked the entire way back to your room, and dropped like a stone into bed."
Kagome's eyes drew in, puzzled, before shrugging it off. What did it matter, when now it was a new day and school awaited her? She winced inwardly, she was always eager to learn, but she didn't want to hear the taunts of her fellow classmates, and she was sure that after last night, the rumors had already flown about her.
"It's all right, Kagome. We'll show 'em, remember?"
Kagome's pensive mood evaporated, and she grinned at Inuyasha as she gathered her school uniform in her arms to change for school.
"You're right, Inuyasha. We will show them that you are real, won't we?" She vanished into the bathroom, and emerged a few moments later, brush in hand, dressed in a short green skirt and long sleeved white blouse, a red ribbon on the front of it.
Looking into the mirror, she brushed her hair, and it was rather disconcerting to know that Inuyasha was right behind her, and there was no reflection in the mirror. She turned around to look carefully at him, and noticed that the beads no longer glowed with the power of the spell that she had unwittingly created, and she frowned in worry. With him no longer visible, how was she to prove herself?
She felt a wave of hopelessness come over her, and she tried to squash it before it drifted over to Inuyasha, and he got worried over her again. She loved him…gods…she didn't know how or why, but she loved him. She put one hand protectively over her side, where she knew the Shikon no Tama was hidden. It would be so simple to use the jewel to make Inuyasha alive again. To have him back in a place more familiar to him…she was sure that he must have had family…friends, perhaps…it wasn't fair to him that he had to be stuck in a modern age, bound to a girl that he only knew in dreams…
"Don't even think about it, Kagome." She looked over, startled at Inuyasha's angry eyes. "I told ya that I don't want ya doing it. Did ya ever think that I might not want to go back? What the hell is back for me there?"
Kagome shook her head, not wanting to voice what she could do with the jewel. It would be simple…and she couldn't voice her plan to Inuyasha. She smiled up at him and tried to get him to not to worry so much over her.
To her surprise his arms came around her as he held her body close to his. "Don't worry so much about me, Kagome. Let's get ya off to school and show those guys that I'm real."
Nodding slowly, Kagome pulled away from him, gathering up her books as she made her way slowly down the stairs to walk to school. For once she wouldn't be alone…
"Ya were never alone before. Or am I just nothing ta ya?"
Kagome grinned at Inuyasha. "You're right, Inuyasha. I…it's just that this is the first time that I know that you are real-and not something that I made up.
He nodded, walking with her as she made her way cautiously down the stairs, wondering if her mother was going to be downstairs waiting for her.
She saw her family silently sitting around the table; her mother's face still pale, and her grandfather's face intense as he stared at her. Souta seemed oblivious as he ate his rice with an alarming speed. She sat down at the table, picking up her chopsticks, and chewed on her meal slowly, feeling like she was at a wake for a funeral.
"Kagome…you're not going to school today, are you?" Kagome looked up in surprise at her mother's sudden question. Why wouldn't she go to school? It would at least get her away from this somber atmosphere.
"You're family seems rather tense this morning, Kagome. I wonder why?" His voice was teasing, and Kagome grinned into her rice bowl.
*I wonder why, Inuyasha. Could it be that they saw me floating last night, and my mother saw you? I think that would give her a healthy dose of shock. *
"She deserved it." She turned to look at him after that blunt comment, and he looked so serious. Like he really meant it…she shook her head mentally at him, gathering up her bowl and plate, stacking them on top of each other before bringing them to the sink.
"Itakimasu." She quickly left her home, ignoring her mother calling after her.
"Kagome! You're at school today. What, no ghost talking to you?" There were a few sniggers at this, and Kagome frowned at Yuka.
"He's a better friend than any of you morons." She said under her breath, and pushed past the small group of girls so that she could walk into the school.
They didn't leave her, though, following her into the school. "I heard you went out flying last night. Light as air, huh? Better start eating, Kagome. You might float away." More snickering, and Kagome blushed, wishing that they would shut up and leave her alone. When they didn't stop, she swung around quickly, catching Midori in the side with her daypack.
"Good for you…I only wish I could've knocked them on the ground for you." Kagome grinned.
'Playing the protector, are you?' She thought at him, and smiled inwardly.
"Did they always treat you like that, Kagome?" He asked quietly, and she nodded.
:Ever since I started telling them about you. I was so excited to tell everyone that I knew what really happened to Inuyasha, but everyone gave me strange looks. They said I had an imaginary friend, and when I wouldn't stop, they said I needed medical assistance.:
"Kagome…I'm sorry for all the trouble I've caused you…" He whispered, but she smiled at him.
:You are the one that was always there for me, not them. I wouldn't…wouldn't give you up for anything.: Her blush was deep and that point, and she hid her face as she made her way to the classroom.
"Higurashi-san-what surprise to see you here today. I heard that you were ill and wouldn't be coming in."
Kagome hung her head. "I'm feeling much better now, Yakima-sensei. I'm ready to give my report today as well."
His eyes widened. She had discussed the report with him, and he was against it at first. She was determined though to tell the class-even though her report was on the very person that made everyone look at her strangely and whisper about medical help.
"Are you sure you are up to it, Higurashi-san? It might be too stressful for you to do such a thing."
Kagome shook her head firmly, smiling ironically at her teacher. "You and I both know that I'm not really sick, Yakima-sensei. I am perfectly capable of telling everyone the truth of Inuyasha."
"The truth of WHAT? Kagome?!" Kagome snickered inwardly.
:Yes, Inuyasha. I decided to tell everyone that I really am crazy and believe in you. This whole report…damn it, you're not made up, you're not evil, and I wanted everyone to know that!:
Inuyasha sighed and played with a lock of her hair, noticing the strange looks Kagome was getting when her hair starting moving on its own. He grinned. They couldn't see him, but they saw what he did to Kagome.
"I think I just found a way for your report to be more believable." He grinned.
