I know this is a very short chapter, but I wanted to let you all know that I was writing again, that I haven't given up. ^_^ This is the next installment to "Sealed Away." I am going to be rather busy coming up-something about exams, term papers, and finally moving back home. @__@ And I have to collect the money to ship my baby back home. *hugs computer* Inuyasha does not belong to me, he does belong to Rumiko Takahashi.

Kagome took a deep breath as she waited for the class to quiet down. This is going to be hard, but I have to give this report. Everyone has to understand my side of it! Staring out at the sea of faces, she leaned back in Inuyasha's comforting embrace, feeling his arms wrap around her.

"My report today is on the legend of the hanyou, Inuyasha." Kagome began, inwardly wincing as the snickers already began. "I know what you are all thinking…that I am crazy. Well, a lot of you don't know the truth. It was at my shrine that he was sealed, five hundred years ago, into the very jewel that he coveted."

"That's not fair, Kagome." Inuyasha pouted. "Tell them the whole truth." She giggled and nodded. :Don't worry, Inuyasha. I won't leave out a single detail from your side.:

"Things are not always as they seemed. At first, Inuyasha wanted nothing more than the Shikon no Tama, but in time had grown to love the priestess that guarded it. One day, when he was away from the village, his brother attacked it. Inuyasha ran as fast as he could, but the Shikon no Tama was now in a full youkai's hands, and the village in ruins. His youkai blood took over his body and mind, rendering him an animal, incapable of any thought but destruction. He managed to kill his brother, taking the Shikon no Tama. The priestess was not aware of his true intentions, instead fearing for her life, thinking that this youkai would now turn on her, kill her as his brother hurt her sister."

Yuka sniggered. "Yes, we all know this. Do you have any special information to impart?" The rest of the class laughed with her, and Inuyasha glared at them.

Kagome smiled. "In fact, I do." She said softly. "There is still more to the legend." She looked down at the ground, the memories fresh in her mind, awoken by the words she was speaking. It was very hard to move around the press of emotions that were not hers, and she started a few times before gaining back her ground.

"Inuyasha was not fully himself, yet some part of him remembered that he wanted to protect the priestess he loved. He shouted at her to stay away. He was afraid of his own reactions or what he might do to her. He ran from her, still holding the Shikon no Tama. She in turn ran at him, firing the sealing arrow. It did reach its mark, but the jewel acted outside of any wish, and protected Inuyasha. It took his soul in it, claiming it, hiding it. The jewel vanished from sight."

The class was silent for once at the somber tone Kagome had. Inuyasha himself was quiet, relieving his memories of that day.

"The jewel hung in a void, not knowing what direction to go until it noticed a soul for safe keeping. It lay there, dormant, the soul inside of it finally awakening to release it's fate. Inuyasha stayed there for four hundred years, never able to talk to anyone outside of the jewel, but his soul merging with the Shikon no Tama, and the soul that held it."

Kagome paused to take a drink of water. This was the part that people were going to think even stranger. If they did not think she was crazy now…

"Inuyasha had realized one day that the soul he was connected to was awakening to his presence. That was the first night someone joined him in his prison. A young girl by the name of Kagome. She visited him every night, pulled to him, drawn by the memories that were his-and the soul that she was before. It wasn't until the Anniversary of his death, exactly four hundred years after the original sealing, was Kagome able to release him from the jewel."

The whole class broke out into laughter, and Inuyasha growled slightly, pushing Kagome away to move towards the class. He swore when he realized again that he could not touch them. There had to be some way to prove it. He looked towards Kagome, and suddenly lifted her in the air.

Kagome gasped, then grinned down at Inuyasha, about four feet off the ground in his arms. "This is what he did that first night when I passed out from the force of the spell." The class was opened mouthed in shock, and even the teacher looked startled.

"I am the only one that he can touch-his only link. Our souls have overlaid each other so long that I am half in his world, and he half in mine."

There was no sound at that time, and Inuyasha grinned. "Proved something to them." He grinned. "This is rather fun."

She grinned and nodded. "He is here now, connected to me, unable to be apart." Her eyes grew sad for a moment. "But now you know that truth, and have seen the proof of it." Inuyasha let her gently down again, and smiled gratefully at him. The class clapped at the end of her speech, and she sat down shakily.

:Now to get through the rest of the day…: Inuyasha squeezed her hand reassuringly.

Back in her bedroom, Kagome flopped down on her bed, her mind on what happened at school. "It went rather well." Inuyasha said quietly.

Kagome nodded slowly, trying to block her emotions from Inuyasha before he picked up too much from her. He couldn't know how much she cared for him…he couldn't! What type of relationship did they have? He was a ghost, bound to her by some magic that she didn't understand.

"Kagome…" Kagome opened her eyes, not realizing until he called her name that they were squinted shut, fists clenched in a concentrated effort to keep her feelings from him. She noticed with shock that his form started to waver, and she hurriedly she let a small crack of her energy through, scared that he was going to vanish. His hand grasped onto hers, and his eyes were filled with worry, both for her and himself, as he realized what was happening.

"Don't do that again! I thought…I thought I was going to vanish"…to leave you…

Kagome's eyes filled with tears. She didn't want to lose him. A single tear trickled down her cheek and splashed on his hand, and he looked down at their intertwined hands, feeling some of the ache that she had been holding inside of herself, away from him.

He closed his eyes briefly, his arms going around her, letting her cry softly into his chest. He bit his lip in worry, knowing why she blocked herself off from him so fiercely. This situation was hopeless for them. He realized that he loved her, and it wasn't fair to Kagome. She needed someone who was alive and cared for her; someone like that Hojo person that he had seen talking with Kagome. He could be with her, and care for her in the way that he could not.

His being dead…could Kagome want to use the jewel to bring him life? Gods…what a selfless act she was committing, if she wanted to sacrifice that just for him, the demon who had stolen the jewel in the first place. She wanted to give him back life, give him a second chance, and even if it meant risking her own life in the process. He held her tighter against him, not speaking, just holding her, thankful that they had at least this much, that he was able to touch her like this, even as bleak as their future was.

Finally lifting her face from the folds of his robe, Kagome met Inuyasha's eyes, her watery ones revealing all of her feelings to him. He saw the traces of tears on her cheeks, and a stray drop made its way down her cheek. Without giving himself time to think about it, he bent his head down, kissing the wayward tear before it could drip off the edge of her face.

She sighed under his gentle touch, and he lifted his lips from her face, staring at her intently. What had he done? It was such a simple act, but the emotion stretched between them, tighter then ever, waiting for something to give.

Her hand reached up to tentatively touch his cheek, and he focused all of his attention on her delicate fingers. She was the only one that could do this…could make him feel alive again. It was as they had their own world, where no one else could intrude. In a moment of his old selfishness, he realized he wanted Kagome for himself. He wished that they could be together, that he was alive for her, that he could envelop her in his arms always.

Her fingers traced lightly over his lips, and he could hear her low mummer. "So soft." He let his hand grab hers, and he stroked her fingers gently, and her breath caught.

"Kagome…" He couldn't believe he was doing this, but he wanted to know what it felt like to kiss her. He let his lips brush lightly over her fingers, feeling as if he was halfway in a dream.

Her skin…so soft…what is it like to kiss her? Is her lips as soft as her skin?

His lips met her own in a tender kiss, pulling away after the brief touching.

"Inuyasha…" Kagome's eyes were filled with amazement as she stared up at him, and he blushed.

"I'm sorry." He mumbled. He started to pull away when she grabbed onto him fiercely, her lips brushing against his own. Putting his arms around her, he held her as only she could be held, letting their emotions combine in the gentle kiss.

"Kagome, is this okay?" He asked softly, pulling away carefully this time, his arms still around her. "I do not want to harm you in any way." His gaze was serious and full of suppressed longing and hurt…scared that she was going to reject him, to cast him away from her with the power sleeping inside of her.

"I love it." She smiled, and hugged him. "It's selfish of me…but I don't want you to ever leave. I want to be with you always."

He smiled and held her gently. "Good. I don't want to give you up either." He kissed her forehead, sighing softly.

But it is so hard for you to live this life-forever connected to a spirit, unable to move past that to love someone alive.
