a/n: Sooooo another story, yes I know I didn't finish the last one but I have writer's block. Had to write this one down… Hope you like!

<b>Prologue</b>

Being best friends had it downfalls. It could NEVER go further than the friendship, for it could ruin their relationship forever.

She was only 17, but she knew she had found the one meant for her. They had maybe one or two major fights in their childhood, but that was it. They debated, yes, but they never hated each other for a second. Doesn't that mean something? To her, apparently, to him… nothing.

Day by day she sat next to him on the corner of Crescent lane on the same bench they had met in 1st grade with their mothers. Day by day he had told her that he loved Kikyou and that she had to be the one. Day by day Kagome fell deeper in love with him. Day by day she realized that she had given up everything for his relationship with Kikyou. Day by day she had become lonelier.

Maybe this was how her life was supposed to be? Standing on the sidelines as he married Kikyou someday. She knew she would be invited, but she just couldn't be there to see it. Kagome just couldn't stand to see them together, though she was the one who got them together. It was her fault. She blamed herself constantly for her solitude.

Since 6th grade, Kagome sent secret admirer notes and cards to Inuyasha, hoping one day he would find out and tell her he loved her too. Never one response. He had asked her many times whether she knew who the secret admirer was, but she always replied no. Kagome thought it through and it had to be impossible for him to think it was Kikyou. Kikyou didn't meet him till 9th grade!

It still didn't change him though.

Maybe she wasn't pretty enough? Maybe she wasn't his kind of girl? Something was wrong with her… it couldn't be him…no…never…. He was perfect. Beautiful in so many aspects.

Senior year was here finally and soon she would be able to move on without him. College was what she had been waiting for for years. She would be able to find someone to love her. Since she was so preoccupied with Inuyasha she never really had time for another man in her life. Inuyasha would beat him to pulp anyway. He was always protective over her.

Kagome smiled as she entered her first period class room. She was excited to see Inuyasha since she hadn't been able to see him over the summer because she had been over seas. But when she saw he was not in there she literally burst into tears. Her mother had to come and pick her up from school. The only thought running through Kagome's mind was <i>he</i> was moving on…without her.

Inuyasha had heard the news and had skipped the rest of the day to go and see her. Around lunchtime he drove to her house and knocked on the door. Her mother answered and allowed him to enter the house. He tipped-toed to her bedroom door when he heard her playing her guitar… she was singing.

"…loved her…. As many times as I wanted to tell you the truth…. How long have I stood here… beside you?… I live through you, you looked through me… Oh solitude, still with me is only you, oh solitude, I can't stay away from yo-"

With a slam of her guitar she walked over to the door and pulled it open.

"INUYASHA!!!"

"I'm sorry-"

"No."

"What?" He choked out.

"Not anymore Inuyasha…"
