**************************************************
The young woman whimpered in fear and pain as she was thrown roughly on the floor. As she lay curled in a fetal position on the floor she looked up through eyes swollen from bruising in her face. She looked up at her abuser breathing heavily now from the damage he had just inflicted upon her.
"You call that begging?" His low mellow voice grated over her nerves. He turned around and looked down at her with disgust in his deep marbury red eyes. "I'll teach you how to beg." He told her with undisguised malice tainting his voice. She whimpered softly as he once again reached for her.
***************************************************
Kagome took a tentative sip of her hot chocolate as she contemplated what to say to the man sitting across from her. His percing eyes demanding an answer.
"What happened today was an accumulation of more than a few years of distrust, disgust, and general hatred."
"Explain." Sesshoumaru commanded.
"Do you remember when you were about sixteen? Inuyasha was twelve and there was always a skinny little girl running around after him?"
Sesshoumaru, for what seemed like the first time, really looked at Kagome. And suddenly he remembered.
"You and Inuyasha..."
"Used to be friends. Yes, and a lot more." Kagome paused and took a sip of her hot chocolate as if it gave strength to go on.
"Inuyasha and I were friends since we were both eleven. Life was good then." Kagome smiled wistfully at her memories. "Mama and Daddy were still alive and my younger brother Sota was still living here with us."
"But that does not explain..."
"I'm getting to that." Kagome sighed and looked around the kitchen. "My mother was diagnosed with cancer when I was thirteen Sota was seven. For an entire year we watched her fade away and through it all Inuyasha was there. He was there through everything. The pain, the fights between me and my father, my tears. He was the one on the day she died to just sit beside me and not say anything because he knew that no words could EVER make it OK."
Kagome stopped and took a deep breath. Steadying herself for the next part of her painful story.
"After that, about a month I think, Inuyasha and I started dating. Right from the start he wanted to go further than I was ready to. So I just kept making excuses and putting him off. There were times I wondered why I put up with him and his bullshit but there were times when he was so sweet..." Her voice trailed off as she became engrossed in her thoughts. Remembering Sessoumaru she smiled apologetically before continuing.
"Anyway. Eight months after my mother died my father got the idea that we needed a new mother. So he remarried," Kagome's expression turned to one of disgust, "to one of my mothers "closest" friends. I remembered her from the funeral. She had kept hanging all over him trying to console him by pressing her tits into his arm."
"It was a quick quiet ceremony out of 'respect,' " Kagome snorted, "for my mother. And so it was that I got a stepmother and stepsister in one day. Viciola and Kikyou Shihado."
"Wait a minute." Sesshoumaru stopped her for the name Viciola rang remembered in his mind. That woman, if he wasn't mistaken held a small title. "Are you telling me that you and my half-brothers wench are related?" He asked her.
"Not by any blood ties, thank Kami. Luckily her mother and my father never had a child."
"I don't understand." Sesshoumaru stated. "You live in this house which is in a fairly rich neighborhood and that slut walks around in designer fashions while your stepmother does as well. Flaunting, if I'm not mistaken, a title."
"Yes Daddy was a Viscount." At Sesshoumaru's pointed look she explained.
"Daddy was half Japanese and half English his father left him the title when he died. Mother was American."
"That's not what I don't understand. If your family has title and wealth why do you work as a waitress?"
"That's another story Sesshoumaru and we're already sidetracked from this one." Kagome gave him a small sweet smile that nevertheless told him that the subject of why she worked was off limits.
"On the day they were to move into the house Inuyasha was there with me. I knew. I knew the moment Kikyou stepped out of the limo that Inuyasha wanted her. I was just to stubborn to let him go. So I futilely tried to hold on to him for as long as I could. But it wasn't meant to be. I think the last few months that we were together he was just using me to get to her. I didn't realize how right I was until the night my father died."
"You see after Mama died Daddy wasn't the same. He couldn't really go on without her and after a while he just stopped trying. So here I was thinking that my life truly sucked. I lost my mother AND my father, have a little brother who is now dependent on me, a stepmother who looks at you with contempt and hatred, and a stepsister whose no better." Kagome laughed bitterly and brittlely. "I mean I truly thought my life couldn't get any worse."
"For some reason, I don't know why exactly, I just had to go in Daddy's room and get this jewlery box he had of mothers. I never really though about it before then. It's surprising what you think about when your grieving."
Sesshoumaru reached across the table and grabbed on to one of hands. He noticed that she was shaking and he felt uncharacteristically guilty. He shoved aside however he HAD to know what made this girl tick. He didn't analyze why at the moment knowing he wasn't going to like the answers.
"Kagome stop stalling and tell me." He demanded softly looking into her eyes.
At the sound of his voice Kagome seemed to still and calm down. She looked right into his eyes and she told him.
"I walked into my fathers bedroom on the day of his funeral and found Kikyou and Inuyasha having sex in my parents bed."
In that moment Sesshoumaru wished she hadn't told him. Because more than anything right now he wanted to put his fist in his baka half-brothers face.
"Oh Kami look at your face." Kagome choked out halfway between a laugh and a sob. "I knew I shouldn't have told you. Now you'll be pitying me behind those georeous gold eyes."
"Kagome I'm..."
"What, sorry?" Kagome snorted. "Don't be and save your pity," She got up and took their cups to the sink, "I don't need it."
"Why would I of all people pity you?" Sesshoumaru asked her rising to his feet and coming up behind her.. His voice betraying none of the rage and sadness in him.
"You know my family story. If anything I've got you beat on crappy childhood's."
Kagome slowly turned and faced him. She tilted her head to the side. As she looked up at him she slowly gave him a small smile
"Thank you. Thank you for saying the right thing even if you didn't mean to."
"You're welcome." Sesshoumaru told her softly looking deep into her eyes.
Feeling her breath catch in her throat she tore her gaze away from his.
"It's getting late. You should go." Kagome walked over to the door and held it open for him. As he was walking down the back steps Kagome called out to him.
"Sesshoumaru. "He turned to face her. "I know why you're being so nice to me, and I'm here to tell you it won't work. So thank you for listening to my sob story but I'm going on notice right now. You will not get to Siren through me. Give it up because I can tell you she certainly won't and neither will I."
Kagome turned to go in but before she could close the door Sesshoumaru stopped her. Holding on to her arm and turning her around he placed his hands on both sides of her face and gently kissed her. Just once barely brushing his lips against hers.
"Did you stop to think that maybe I was just trying to get to you?" Leaving her with that thought he turned and walked to his car and left.
Kagome had not moved an inch, and she didn't think she would be moving anytime soon
************************************************************
Sesshomaru paced his office at his restaurant the next still berating himself for his foolish actions last night. How could he have been so stupid? Kissing the girl, because that's all she was really. A girl. A girl with eyes that wrapped him something he didn't want to feel. A girl who had the ability to make words he said in deceit somehow ring, very much, close to the truth.
Kagome wasn't working tonight. Thank Kami. At least that was one thing he didn't have to worry about. But he would worry about it just like he worried over everything else. Just like he'd been worrying. Ever since he'd graduated university and started Madeline's. His resturant. HIS. Named for his mother. It seemed he'd done nothing but worry. About his title, his family, his life. And he was sick of it. Damn sick and fucking tired of it. And he planned on doing something about it.
Someone knocked lightly on his door jolting him out of his musings.
"Come." He commanded regaly. His stoic mask back in place. A male waiter he remembered from before came and delivered him a note. As Sesshoumaru took the note he noticed the faint markings of a hndprint across his face.
"Put some ice on that. We don't want the customers thinking we beat the staff."
"Yes sir." The waiter smiled. Thinking of the woman who gave him that mark. As he was about to leave it seemed he suddently remembered something.
"Mr.Sahashi you might want to open that right away. It's not good to keep a lady waiting." With that cryptic message and a smile he left closing the doors behind him.
Sesshoumaru curiosly opened the note smelling the familar scent of cream and wildflowers.
You wanted to meet
let's meet.
Don't keep me waiting.
Siren.
Sesshoumaru walked over to the one way glass that allowed him to see out and no one to see in. There he saw her. Sitting at his private table, drinking his special reserve stock of wine. Sitting there like she owned the place.
Time to set her straight.
*****************************************************************
It was stupid and she knew it. Meeting him. In his own resturant for Kami's sake. It was risky but she knew what had to be done, even at the risk of him recognizing her. Luck was on her side though. Sesshoumaru's private booth was placed in a darkened corner with only a few soft lights and a small candle on the table providing enogh light to see by. She had to turn the tables on him. Shift the balance of power. No matter that it was Siren who was shifting the balance of power so long as it shifted.
After that kiss last night. The power was definatly his. But not for long she thought with a smile. Taking a sip of her wine.
"Enjoying yourself." A velvet voice wrapped around her making her skin feel caressed even though he hadn't touched her.
"Immensely." She told him boldly dropping her voice a few octaves never turning to face him. Even though she didn't look at him him she could feel his eyes scanning her.
The black beaded three inch heels she was wearing made her legs appear to streach on forever. Her little black dress gave new meaning to the word 'little'. Black silk that draped over both sholders, creating a deep 'u' shape showing the whole of her back and dipped in the front just above her navel. The bottom of the dress ending in different lengths around her legs. Putting her hair up in to a simple twist she wore the same black hat she wore the first time she sang at the resturant. Placed at an angle that covered half her face.
"So what is it that you wanted to speak to me about Lord Sesshoumaru?" She asked as he took a seat next to her.
"It was you who arranged this was it not?" Sessoumaru asked her cooly.
"Yet it was you who wanted to meet in the first place. So here I am. Do what you will with me." She told him giving a slow knowing smile.
"Now that does give me a lot of options," He countered, "and with that dress it's hard to choose where to start."
"Hard?"
"Very."
"I'm flattered."
"You should be."
"So should you."
"I'll keep that in mind."
"See that you do. Wine?"
"Please." As Siren poured the wine he realized that he was actually having fun. As she reached over to pour Sesshomaru tucked a peice a stray hair behind her ear. Almost causing her to spill.
"Careful." He warned her as she regained her composture.
"Always." She placed the bottle down and clinked her glass with his and took a sip.
"Very good." Kagome comented.
"Yes I know."
"I meant the wine."
"Yes I know." If Kagome didn't know better she would have sworn Sesshoumaru
almost smiled.
"So what do want?" Kagome asked him.
"Too easy."
"Get your mind out of the gutter."
"To dirty and crowded."
"Funny."
"I thought so."
"That's the problem." Kagome commented dryly.
"No my dear you're the problem."
"How's that?"
"You're a mystery."
"Figure me out."
"I'm working on it."
"Best way is to ask questions."
"Can I ask questions?"
"I get the feeling you can do whatever you want."
"Good feeling."
"It's an amazing feeling."
"Yes it is."
"You had questions?"
"Ready?"
"Born that way."
"Height?"
"Tall enough."
"Weight?"
"Three pounds to much."
"Name?"
"Is a legend among men."
"How many men?"
"How many women?"
"Do they matter?"
"I don't know? Do they?"
"Only one question truly matters."
"What's that?"
"Your place or mine?"
Kagome leaned in closer to him inches away from his mouth.
"Yours." She wispered huskily gently kissing him oh so softly as he had to her the night before. Just as he was deeping the kiss for more a discreet cough interupted them. Pulling back from Siren just enough he deeply breathed in her scent.
"What?" He asked never taking his eyes away from Sirens.
"Sorry to interrupt sir, But Siren has a show in five minutes."
"I'm coming." Kagome told the waitress.
"Not yet but you will be." Sesshoumaru told her seductivly.
"Promises, promises." She wispered back at him.
"I always, ALWAYS keep my promises."
"Oh I hope so." As Kagome made to slide out of the booth the skirt of her dress rode higher on her legs showing him some of her smooth thigh.
"Thanks for the drink."
"Untill next time."
"There won't be a next time."
"Is that a fact?" Sesshoumaru asked her raising an eyebrow.
"It's a promise." With that she turned and walked away. Each of them knowing that the odds had been tipped in their favor.
************************************************
As Sesshoumaru sat there watching her walk away he felt oddly dissatisfied. As if the banter should have been with someone else. Someone else. Someone else with brown eyes. Sesshoumaru felt a bot of awarness shoot through him. Brown eyes? Where did that come from? Besides Siren had grey eyes. Gray eyes that when reflected in the candle light seemed....brown. Going over thier banter in his head he replayed it over and over. Sure enough when he stopped and looked BROWN eyes stared back at him. BROWN not GRAY.
What the fuck?

Naraku Shinchro walked into his bedroom drying his wet hair on a towel. Sighing to himself he tossed aside the towel draped himself across his bed. He was so bored. His new toy didn't interest him as much now. Nothing intrested him since he saw HER.
He would have have her he decided. He'd have her, take her, and get rid of that fire behind her eyes and keep it for himself. Keep her all to himself. Oh he;d let her have her fun now, but soon she would learn not to tease and torment the way she did flaunting herself for other men. She would have to be diciplened. He would have fun doing that. oh yes, he thought with a grin,Siren would be his.
