-“We must go now minna… Into the well.” So saying she scooped up Shippou and made her way towards the structure. Making sure her friends where with her, Kagome jumped up onto the lip of the well that was glowing that same gold as the Goshinboku. She took a deep breath and jumped.-

As soon as Kagomes’ feet where once again on solid ground she was slightly disoriented. Slowly she turned her head and found what she was looking for…The Goshinboku. Off to her right she could see it’s golden pillar of power. “Let’s go that way towards the Goshinboku.” Kagome said in a quiet steady voice. She could feel her friends nodding behind her and they all set off in that direction.
“Kagome… There is a boy pinned to the tree!” Songo called out as they neared the Goshinboku.
“Take my hand and show me where.” Kagome asked. Songo did so and lead Kagome up a root of the Goshinboku and placed her hand on the boys face. Slowly Kagome traced his features and ran her fingers through his hair, coming to rest on what felt like dog ears. ‘He almost feels like Sesshoumaru…if not for the dog ears.’
Suddenly Kagome was startled by a voice she had never heard before. “If you are quite done playing with my ears, My lady, would you be so kind as to release me from this tree?” Kagome almost fell over anime style when the boy she could not see spoke to her.
“Songo?” Kagome asked. Songo seemed to know what Kagome was getting at, and placed Kagomes’ hand around an arrow shaft that was protruding from the boy’s chest. As Kagome pulled her power up from inside her self, those around her saw the arrow start to glow intermittently purple and indigo.
The arrow shattered into infinitesimal specks and faded into nothingness. Kagome felt strong arms wrap around her and she was lifted from the root and placed on the ground after a short feeling of weightlessness. What she felt next almost made her squeak. The boy put his nose at the base of her next, near her locket, and inhaled. Hard. “Let me go!” She squealed, pushing at his head frantically.
The boy put her down and the others watched as he knelt at her feet. “I’m sorry My Lady. Forgive me. I’m in your debt for releasing me from that cursed tree.”
“Why do you keep calling her ‘My Lady’?” Shippou asked curiously, tilting his head to the side.
“Because she is the mate of Lord Sesshoumaru. Can you not smell it Kit?” The dog eared boy stated. “Not only that but she’s carrying his p-”
“That is enough.” Kagome said in a cold voice. “Who are you?”
“I’m Inuyasha, My lady. Lord Sesshoumaru is my half brother. Will he be along shortly?” Inuyasha asked looking around as though Sesshoumaru would walk through the foliage any moment. Kagome watched his vibration silently, admiring his core of vibrant purple, with the smallest wisps of silver.
“I dunno.” Kagome said in a small voice, looking away from every one.
“Na-nani? He’s not traveling with you? How could that be. He would never leave his m-” Again Inuyasha was interrupted.
“We got separated.” Was all Kagome said.
“We must find him at once. I will help you, it’s the least I can do.” Inuyasha said, reaching for Kagomes’ hand.
“I wouldn’t go looking for Lord Sesshoumaru if I were thee.” An aged voice said out of the shadows of the forest.
“Oi! Baba! It none of your business what we do!” Inuyasha said in a rude voice they hadn’t heard from him as yet.
Kagome turned and although her eyes where obscured by the koolie she was wearing, she could see a core of gold and rainbows coming from this new arrival. Some how the old woman had concealed herself as she came upon their group.
“Why is it not a good idea to go looking for Sesshoumaru?” Kagome asked, tilting her head at the woman, still not revealing her face.
“If thee would accompany me to my village, I would gladly tell thee the tale. My name is Keade by the way. Please follow me.” Keade said introducing herself and turning back into the woods. Kagome nodded to her companions and followed the old woman into the shrubs. Soon they came upon a small village made up of thatched huts.
“I don’t think we are in Kansas any more Toto…” Miroku whispered more to himself than any one else.
Kagome snickered and said under her breath, “I’ll explain what I can after we hear Keade-sans tale.” They followed Keade into the nearest hut and took seats around the small fire. Every one got comfortable as Keade got ready to tell her story. Pouring tea for all who wanted it.
“It all started about fifty cycles ago. It was a full, red moon. I was but a wee lass. I remember hearing the most heart breaking roar off to the west. It was a cry of pain and rage. The hearing of it brought tears to my eyes. The next few days where terrifying. We had refugees from other villages stumbling upon us, all with stories of being driven off by a savage beast of a youkai. He killed any who did not flee. Not too many days had passed when I felt a great evil coming from the glade that the Goshinboku is in.
I went to investigate and saw Lord Inuyasha in battle with an evil Hanyou and a twisted miko. The miko pinned him to the Goshinboku and fled with the Hanyou and another youkai I had not first seen. They departed on a large white feather, that carried them away on the winds currents. I tried to release Inuyasha-sama from the tree, but it did no good. The binding arrow would not respond to me. Odd that it responded to thee, miko-sama? After that story’s started reaching us for a few years about an evil named Naraku, and the harm he was doing to the peoples of this land. Soon all rumors stopped. We have been cut off from other villages for decades. Then you appeared here…” As Keade finished her tale, she took a sip from her remaining tea.
“Thank you for telling us this Keade-sama. I am now split in what I must do. What I am about to tell you must never leave this hut. Inuyasha this means you as well. We are not from this time. We came through the well near the Goshinboku from the future to hunt down Naraku and his associates. They do not belong here either. They came with hopes for taking over the future that we come from, and I can not let that happen.” Kagome said to start off with.
“How is that possible? It can’t be if Sesshoumaru is your ma-” Inuyasha said only to be cut off by Kagomes’ hand against his mouth.
“If you would let me finish you might get your answers.” she said in a harsh voice. Kagome took a deep breath and started anew. “About two months ago in our time, I was performing the ritual dance for the Goshinboku. Sesshoumaru approached me afterwards and we ‘cough’, talked. After a while he left for the evening and I retired to my room. For a reason unknown to me, he came to visit me in my room that night and told me a fantastic tale about coming from the past. We became very close… and when night faded it took him with it. I couldn’t handle him being taken from me and I kind of shut down emotionally for a while. Okaa-san finally was so worried that she sought mental help for me.
Big mistake on her part. She unknowingly left me in the very hands of Naraku. I tried to escape. It was no good. They over powered me. Naraku kept me locked up for a long time…Did things to me. Finally he made some sort of copy of me. He thinks that it is an exact copy of me. But he was wrong. His ‘copy’ is twisted and bitter. It’s called an Ersatz. Made from dirt and blood and a soul…” At this point Kagome stopped speaking, not being able to go on at the moment. A tear ran down her cheek, following the silver line none of them could see, as her face was shielded by her koolie.
A few members of the group gasped as a perfectly round gem landed on the mat at her feet. Kagome lifted the gem and seemed to look at it for a moment and then tucked it away for safe keeping. “My friends here saved me from his clutches and brought me to the Goshinboku. I was dying. The Goshinboku could not return me to normal. I wished to become a part of it at my passing. But it gave me a choice. I could become a part of it or go back to my friends. In doing so it would heal me… but I would not be the same, nor would my friends. They have each been changed slightly in order to help me in my quest.
But after learning of the amount of time that has pasted between when Naraku forced himself into the past and when we where able to come thru at the Goshinbokus’ urging, my quest is in danger. Especially learning that Sesshoumaru is here and is in need of my help. I do not know what to try to accomplish first…” Her words faded off and she bowed her head.
“I think we should rest and recover for a while and think about our next move while doing so.” Miroku’s calm voice stated. Every one nodded their heads and settled back to digest The tales they had been told, especially Kagomes.

(With Sesshoumaru)
He was patrolling his desolate lands and caught a scent he never thought he would smell again. ‘It could not be her…’ And swiftly he took to the air, tracking that wonderful scent. So caught up in it he did not register the smell of death and dirt mixed in with that beloved smell. Lavender. He stopped before entering the clearing that the scent had led him to. He could see a figure kneeling next to a small pond. Midnight hair flowing on the slight breeze and small, green fireflies floating around her. She wore a traditional miko’s outfit. Could this be?
Before he could rationalize anything in his mind, he sped across the clearing and wrapped his arms around her small waist. He snuffled into her neck and caressed his mark with hot lips. Only then did he smell the other scents mixed with the one he loved. He was about to bound away, cursing himself for blundering into some sort of trap, when a delicate hand slid around his wrist and he felt a burning sensation make it’s painful way up his right arm… only to have his arm disintegrate. He clawed at the hand that was nearest to him, injecting poison into the body of his attacker. He heard a feminine scream as he bound, red eyed, up into the air, taking flight on his youki cloud and leaving the clearing far behind.
Whomever that vile bitch had been would have killed him if he’d let her touch him much longer then she had. No matter… he would search her out later and deal with her then. For know he would go back to his castle in the heart of his desolate lands and brood over this new wound.

(Back with Kagome and party)
Kagome could sense most of her party was asleep so she quietly stood up and walked out side…almost running into the mat that covered the door to the dwelling before remembering at the last moment that it was there and dodged around it. She swiftly made her way to the Goshinboku, taking extra precaution not to trip on anything…not because it was dark… but because she couldn’t see anything in her path even if it was light…her only guiding beacon was the golden pillar of her friend.
Standing before it she scanned the tree and found that one of the golden roots had veins of black running trough it… They had already started to taint the tree… they must have been at it for quite some time to have even this small part tainted. No matter though…she could fix that. Taking a deep breath and letting it go she brought her arms slowly up straight out from her sides and as she rose them her body lifted of the ground. Her clothes changed from her miko’s outfit into the one she wore for her Goshinboku ceremonies. Lifting a hand into the air her sacred arrow appeared and with it she tapped her koolie making it disappear, revealing herself to her unknown- to- her , watcher.
Inuyasha held in his gasp as Kagome lifted from the ground. ‘What is she doing?’ He thought to himself. He watched as an arrow shaft appeared in her hand and she made her hat vanish. She slowly started to dance and the dance was soon followed by musical notes, one after the other until it seemed that more then one person was singing. She moved with an ethereal beauty. ‘My brother is a lucky dog.’ He thought giggling to himself.
He could feel the energy building up around her and wondered yet again what was going on. His brother was a fool not to be with her every moment he could. But circumstances being what they where, he would have to step in as her protector until she was once again under his half brothers’ protective wing. If any thing happened to her and his brother found out…he would go completely insane, and these puny humans would truly see what hell on earth was.
Inuyasha felt happiness fill him as her song continued. Soon he was able to see light green energy forming around her body. It became brighter and brighter until in one crescendo of a moment it shot towards the tree that had been his home for fifty years and sank into the bark. As the energy faded Inuyasha swore it seemed as though the tree was smiling. Kagome on the other hand looked exhausted. She was about to drop to the hard, unforgiving ground…So he did the only logical thing and dashed from his hiding spot to catch her.
Kagome squeaked as strong arms wrapped around her, stopping her from hitting the ground…She took in the scent and vibration of who had caught her and sighed. “Must be a family thing…” She muttered to her self as she looked up at Inuyasha. She winced as she heard him gasp. ’He must realize that I’m blind.’ “Do I look that bad?” She asked jokingly, poking him in the forehead.
Inuyasha ran a fingertip down the silver line on Kagomes’ left cheek. “You’re beautiful Onii-chan.” Kagome felt Inuyasha bending over a bit and thought her was going to put her down. She squeaked again when she felt his powerful legs pounce up from the ground and send them into the air. They landed gently on a branch of what Kagome could tell was the Goshinboku. Inuyasha settled back against the trunk of the tree and snuggled Kagome to him and wrapped a sleeve of his red fire rat robe around her to keep her warm in the rapidly cooling night air.
“Kagome?” Inuyasha asked quietly, rubbing her hair comfortingly.
“Hmmm?” She responded, nuzzling into his chest slightly.
“Why are you trying to keep the fact that you are with pup a secret from your friends?” He asked, covering her tummy with his large, clawed hand. He felt her stiffen in his arms.
Kagome sighed and relaxed after a moment. She nuzzled him lightly under his chin and spoke once more. “I’m afraid…” Was all she said at first. Inuyasha was about to prompt her to continue speaking when she started on her own. “I’m afraid to admit that it’s real. Because if it’s real. Naraku could find out and use it against us… What do you think would happen if Sesshoumaru found out Naraku had some how gotten a hold of his pup? You know him better then I do…” Kagome trailed off and put her head back against Inuyashas’ chest and yawned.
“G’night Inuyasha-no-nee-chan.” She said and trailed into sleep not long after. Inuyasha watched her as she slept and decided that he would vote that she go find his brother before dealing with Naraku…and he’d make damn sure every one else voted that way too. Too Few pups had been born to the Inu-youkai clans lately… and that was fifty years ago…He didn’t even want to think what shape the clan was in at this time.
Kagome was also unaware of the danger she could put the pup in if there was no one to share energy with it. Pups drew of the energy of their mother and father. While he could stand in as the second energy giver for now… he could not do it for long… or the pup would be more his then his brothers. And as beautiful as he thought she was… He didn’t want to risk an eternity of his brothers wraith.
He gently prodded her tummy with his hand and pulled inside of himself and found a tendril of his energy. He prodded it carefully forward and into her body…connecting it with the tiny youki growing in her womb. He only kept up the infusion for a short time… not wanting to overwhelm the minute pup, then stopped and kept watch for the rest of the night with his new sister in his arms as safe as she could be.
