Wheee, I'm so mean haha, leaving you with a cliffy. But I'm back now! AND I'M NOT GOING TO TELL YOU WHAT HAPPENED TO MEG!!!! MUAH HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! No. Seriously. I'm not. Have fun watching the rest of them panic though! ^-^ *is so evil*
Max's POV
I came out of the bathroom, yawning. “Why am I so tired? I should be hyper, it's the first night of Christmas break.”
InuYasha hugged me. “Because you had so much of that…what was that stuff we were drinking?”
“The hot chocolate?”
“Yah sure, we'll go with that.”
Laughing, I walked into the bedroom, ready to pass out…I mean…fall asleep.
The apartment hadn't changed that much since Meg Sarah and Kim had moved out. The living room and kitchen were still the same, and so was that same old ONE bathroom. The only thing that had really changed was that Meg's bedroom had been turned into an all-purpose room…kind of a storage and guest room all in one. I was now sharing my room with InuYasha of course.
I went back out into the living room after I'd changed into my pajamas, which were red loose-fitting pants and a red tank top and curled up on the couch. I lied down so that my feet were up over the back of the couch and I was spread out so my head was hanging over the side. Everything looked upside-down, including InuYasha when he walked in from the bathroom.
Smirking, he came over and jumped up on the couch…and sat on my stomach. Gah.
I tried to shove him off. “I'm too tiny, you're gonna crush meee….”
He shook his head and smirked, acting as if he were making himself comfortable. “Nah, I think I'll stay right here.”
I squeezed my eyes shut and tried to push him off. “InuYasha! Off!”
“No.”
I dropped my arms so they fell off the side of the couch like my head. “What will it take to get you off so I can breathe normally again?”
He was quiet while he thought about it. Well, I assumed he was thinking about it. My head was still over the side of the couch, so I couldn't see him very well. I could feel the blood rushing to my head, and was wondering if he'd wait until I passed out before I felt him move. He leaned forward until he was looking me directly in the face and kissed me.
Kissing him back, he wrapped his arms around my shoulders and pulled me up so that eventually I was sitting half on the couch and half in his lap, still kissing him.
When we finally pulled apart, I raised an eyebrow at him. “That's all it took?”
He smirked. “Yep.”
I laughed, and, laying my head on his chest, he held my hand in his, and I started to fiddle with his fingers absent-mindedly. I could feel his eyes on me for a while before he seemed to close them and rested his head on mine, hugging me gently to him. Closing my eyes as well, I was about to fall asleep before he woke me up.
“Max?”
“Mmm?” I was a little annoyed that he had to go and talk right before I was going to fall into my blissful little dreamland.
He lifted my chin and kissed me. “I love you.”
Ok. So he was allowed to wake me up for that. I kissed him back. “I love you too.” Laying my head back down on his chest, I fell asleep with his arms around me. ((Awww how cute!!))
Falling asleep so perfectly like that was ruined however when morning came. It was really early…as in, hadn't even risen when I was woken up. Probably because it was one in the morning.
I opened my eyes groggily, trying to see through the dim light filtering through the room caused by the street lamps outside. There was a strange sound echoing through the room, loud and annoying, but my sleep-fogged mind couldn't figure out what it was. I felt InuYasha nudge me.
“Answer it. It's been ringing on and off for a while.”
I groaned and rolled off him onto my pillow. “Then why didn't you get it?”
He stretched. “You were on top of me. I couldn't move.”
Rolling my eyes, I leaned over the side of the couch to answer the phone, for indeed, it was the source of the strange ringing sound I heard.
“Hello?” I asked, my voice low and lazy from having just woken up. The words being rapidly thrown at me slowly started to wake me up however. “They found what? …Ok…ok…we'll be right over.”
I hung up the phone, practically slamming it down in my hurry. Quickly, all thought of sleep gone, I sat up and started to change out of my pajamas and into my regular clothes. InuYasha sat up, confused and obviously still half-asleep. “What're you doing?”
“We have to go meet Kim downstairs in ten minutes.”
After meeting Kim downstairs, InuYasha and I got in her and Seto's car on our way to Jack and Meg's apartment. Something was obviously wrong, but we didn't know what, or if we were even right.
We were proven right as soon as we got into their apartment. Sure it was usually messy, but this wasn't normal. The living room and kitchen were fine, but Jack and Meg's bedroom looked like it had been thrown apart. The mirror that usually leaned against the wall was thrown to the floor, shattered, one of the dressers was thrown over, and a drawer was taken from the other one and thrown across the room as if trying to keep someone away.
The place had a few policemen in it too. I raised an eyebrow and Kim shrugged. “Had to call them. It's only normal. And it didn't feel right.”
And then there was Jack, sitting there, pale as death, looking torn between going off to slaughter something and breaking down completely. He was staring at something on the floor, and one of the police officers was trying to talk to him. I went over to hear what he was saying.
“Well, there's obvious signs of some sort of kidnapping, but we're still trying to figure out how they got in and out of here, since the doors were locked and you're seven floors up. It shouldn't be this hard to find though…” the man almost attempted at a smile. “Your wife put up one hell of a fight. We'll be able to find how they got her out of here soon enough.”
I felt all the blood drain from my face. No one had told me what had happened. I'd assumed that Jack and Meg had just been robbed or something. I hadn't noticed until now that she was nowhere to be seen. I looked over at Jack. “You mean she's…”
“Gone,” he finished for me. There was a similarity to the last time she'd disappeared, along with Sarah, where she'd turned out fine. There didn't seem to be anything to worry about, but what Jack was staring at on the floor didn't make it seem so similar after all.
Blood.
I could hear Kim take a deep breath behind me when she saw it. “It might not…it might not be her blood…” It almost sounded like she was trying to convince herself as well as everyone else.
Jack still hadn't said a word other then that one. I think he was more in shock than anything else. So none of us said anything to make him talk.
We sat there all night, feeling pretty much helpless as we waited for any word about any information that may have been found. But we waited for nothing. No information ever came.
I sat for most of the night curled up on their couch, InuYasha sitting beside me and squeezing my hand as if silently trying to comfort me. Kim and Seto were sitting at the kitchen table, staring at the clock way more than was normal. The twins had been left with a babysitter, so they were able to stay as long as they either needed or wanted. Sarah and Will didn't even know what was going on. They weren't answering their phone, and none of us dared to leave long enough to go to their house in case news came while we were gone. We'd gotten Jack out of the bedroom after a while too, since we knew it couldn't be good for him to be staring at the blood spattered on the floor. So now he was sitting at the other end of the couch, staring at the wall in front of him, waiting, just like the rest of us. For a while we'd had trouble keeping him there, since he wanted to go out and look for her, but we convinced him it would be best if he stayed in case they found her and brought her back.
As the hours wore on, I began to get sleepy again. Staying up all night wasn't something I was used to. It was about 4am now, and we were starting to doze off with the lack of news. Kim was sleeping with her head down on the table, and though I was pretty sure Kaiba was still awake, he had his eyes closed too. InuYasha had fallen asleep beside me, snoring gently, and I felt like joining them all in falling asleep. Only Jack was still awake, staring out the window at the slowly lightening sky, his back to us. He was worried to death, it was obvious to anyone with eyes, and he wasn't going to risk going to sleep unless he knew where his Meg was, and if she was safe.
I however simply couldn't do it. No matter how much I wanted to stay awake, I felt myself slowly slipping off to sleep until I fell into a blissful cloud of darkness.
I had the strangest dream. There was a thick fog all around, no matter how much I walked it never became thinner. This went on for a long time, until I noticed that the deeper I went into the fog, the more light-headed I became. I tried to turn back, but even if I went in to opposite direction I could still feel the lightness filling my mind. It became so bad that what little of the world around me I could see began to spin. It was then that I began to see outlines of trees and bushes around me.
Up ahead there. Was that a woman? I couldn't tell. Everything was spinning. I continued to try and walk farther, but it was becoming harder and harder. The woman kept weaving in and out of trees, and after a while I was unable to follow her. I sank to the ground, holding my head.
When I could look up again, the dark shape of the woman was there. I watched her draw her bow and arrow, saw her aim at my heart. I could see her expressionless, dead eyes for only an instant before she let go of the string, her arrow headed straight for me.
When I woke up I could hear birds.
Huzzah! Chapter three! And it sounds like something out of CSI!! …Well not really. What's up with Max there? What hath happened to her? You still don't know! Haha, anyway, nothing much to say…it's 1:30am and I'm freaking tired…night!
