InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Seperation ❯ Chapter 2

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

I'm back! Go me! I'm going to try and get a little of the actual plot into this chapter haha. Off we go…again!

Kim's POV

I flopped down onto the couch. The twins were finally asleep. They'd been going strong all day, crying, laughing, fidgeting and playing, but I knew they'd tire themselves out eventually. And it was finally that time. They were in the nursery now, fast asleep, each in their own tiny crib, wrapped in their favorite blankets.
I loved them to death. They were my children, and they were as precious to me as Seto was.
Leaning back on the couch, exhausted from a day of entertaining two energetic four-month-old twins, I looked around the living room. I was sitting on a two-piece sectional couch, a coffee table covered with a few plastic toys and empty bottles directly in front of me, and a TV a little further in front. The light blue carpet was covered with a few stuffed animals that belonged to the twins, and a few little infant gyms where they could lay on their backs and play with the small toys hanging above them. A little behind and to the left of me was the kitchen, the dining room to my right. Directly to my left was the staircase that either led to the second floor or the rec and laundry rooms downstairs. It was a fairly large house, and pretty damn perfect as far as I was concerned. Seto was convinced that I only deserved the best.
Speaking of Seto, my thoughts seemed to summon him as he came down the stairs from where he'd been checking on the twins before coming to sit down beside me. Snuggling close to him, I leaned my head on his shoulder as he hugged me close. These were the times I liked best, when the kids were asleep and nothing else mattered in the world but Seto and me.
I felt him kiss the top of my head, and I lifted my face so I could kiss him properly. “Love you.”
He pulled me closer. “Love you too.”
We slowly got into a conversation about memories from the past, plans for the future, how we thought the twins would grow up and what their personalities might be. It was something that happened once in a blue moon and it lasted all of ten minutes before we got a little…distracted.
That lasted a lot longer, and would have gone further, but unfortunately (for the two of us), it didn't because a knock on the door and the sudden appearance of about five people broke us apart.
I groaned good-naturedly and flopped my head on Seto's shoulder, pretending to be exasperated. “Remind me to take away your keys.”
Max smirked. “Remind us to get a schedule as to when you two are going to be making out during the day so we don't walk in in the middle of it.”
I threw a pillow at her.

The seven of us were crowded around the living room a little while later, drinks sitting around and the sleeping twins with us now.
My hand entwined with Seto's, I used the other one to grab my pop off the coffee table and take a sip of it before putting it back down. “Where's Jack Meg?”
She didn't even look up from where she was gently rocking Rekai in her arms. “He had to work a little later, he called my phone on my spare and told me.”
Moving slowly so she wouldn't wake him/her up, Meg passed Rekai to Sarah so she could hold him/her. Max was already holding Aerylis.
Like I said, we were all spread out. Seto and I were sitting on the couch, cuddled together, Max and InuYasha were sharing the armchair slightly across from us, (Max was kinda-sorta in his lap) ((<.<;;)), Sarah and Will were in the other part of the sectional couch, and Meg was sitting on a huge pillow on the floor. Max looked up at me. “Kim…they're perfect.”
I smirked at her. “You say that every time you see them.”
She shrugged. “Well, it's true!”
Meg laid back to lean against the bottom of the couch. “Man, it seems like a long time ago we sat here like this and decided to go on a rum run and scared all the people in the grocery store.”
I laughed. “You and Jack had a swordfight in the costume section.”
“Pfft, you should talk. You and Kaiba fogged up the windows of the car, and I'm starting to suspect that was when the twins were conceived.”
“MEG!”
She just laughed.

We spent the whole night like that, talking about nonsense stuff, making fun of each other, and once we got the twins back upstairs we ordered take-out and basically had a “school's out” party for them. It lasted until it got dark out, when they started to say they'd all better be going home. So with a shout of goodbyes, a few hugs and waves, the five of them were gone…leaving Seto and I to clean up the mess. I rolled my eyes, laughing.
“They SO owe us…”

Meg's POV

Waving over my shoulder, I watched as the car containing Max and InuYasha sped off down the street, chasing the one Sarah and Will were in. Laughing, I went over to the elevator and pressed the button that would get me to the seventh floor.
Once the doors opened, I walked down the hall until I came to mine and Jack's apartment. I tried to open it, but it was locked. Muttering, I reached into my pocket and shuffled around a bit until I got hold of my keys. Picking the right one, I slipped it in and unlocked the door.
Going inside, I shut the door behind me and flicked on the kitchen light, throwing my keys onto the counter. Jack obviously wasn't home yet, since he would have come out to see me, he sure as hell wouldn't be asleep at this time it wasn't even nine yet.
Since it was warmer in the apartment, I pulled off my black sweater and threw it onto the back of the couch. Hey, we were newlyweds, we didn't have to be neat.
So, just wearing the black tank top now, I opened the cupboard to see if there was anything I could snack on until Jack came home. Seeing nothing, and taking that as a sign I'd have to go groceries again, I rolled my eyes and closed the door. Instead I went towards the fridge and grabbed a can of Pepsi. Opening it, I took a drink.
It was then that I heard something. I was used to sounds, like people in the apartments beside, above and below us…but this one was really close by. Like, TOO close by for comfort. I lowered the can away from my lips and put it down on the counter. Maybe Jack was home after all and just hadn't heard me come in.
Shrugging, I moved towards the small little hallway across from the front door. It wasn't too big, and the only rooms it led to were a closet, the bathroom and mine and Jack's bedroom. I walked slowly down it however. Something didn't feel right, but I couldn't put my finger on what it was.
I heard the sound again. It was like the floorboards were creaking, like someone was walking on them, trying to be quiet and not doing a very good job. My heartbeat started to quicken a little, but I mentally talked myself down, telling myself it was ok, that it was probably just Jack, getting changed without bothering to turn the light in the room on. I knew that he did that sometimes.
It's just that he would always say something. It was the tense silence that was making me nervous.
Standing in the doorway to our bedroom, I looked around. In the faded light that didn't even come close to lighting up the room, I couldn't see much. I strained to let my eyes get used to the darkness.
“Jack?”
That was all I was able to say before a large, slightly sweaty hand was clasped over my mouth before I could even scream.

Muah hahaha! Done! Ooooh, creepeh, what's going on? I KNOW!! But you don't. Because you're not as cool as me haha. Anyway, just to clear a few things up, eventually my goal is that there will be only one person's point of view in each chapter. I don't know how I'm going to manage that, but I'm going to try, and that's why not everyone's POV is going to be in every chapter mmmkay? Anyway, BYE! Leaving you with a cliffy now! *waves* Cya!
