InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Seperation ❯ Chapter 5

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

Back! Er…I'm writing these fast, so I've got nothing to say…on with the story!

Max's POV

The sun was warm on my face, and I could hear the rustling of grass and leaves on trees, as well as the sounds of birds chirping. It was calm, peaceful, and I was thinking to myself that I could just lie here all day, when reason soon came to me. It was the middle of winter…we were on our Christmas break…why the hell was the weather acting like it was summer?
My eyes shot open. I was lying on a grassy clearing, a few flowers scattered here and there around me. The sky was a cloudless blue…well that was a lie, there were some clouds, and considering how many leaves were on the trees, it was obviously sometime in the summer. This wasn't normal. Last thing I knew was that I was falling asleep on the couch in Meg and Jack's apartment.
It couldn't be possible that I was here now…not if it was summer where I was and winter where I'd been only a little while before.
Sitting up slowly, I clutched my head as a wave of light-headedness came over me, seeming to come from nowhere. I blinked quite a few times, waiting for my head to clear, and looking over my surroundings. It was laying at the foot of an enormous tree, which looked fairly old, and there was a small clearing nearby with what seemed to be a square platform made out of wood. Everywhere else there was pretty much just forest. I rubbed my eyes. Mmmkay, I could wake up any minute now….
Any time would be nice…
I started to pinch my arm, waiting to wake up in the living room again, and slowly starting to get more freaked out when I realized that it really wasn't working out for me. I was still here.
Better yet, I still didn't know where `here' was. Joy.
“HEY! OVER HERE!”
What the fuck…
“There's someone over here!”
The voice I was hearing was high-pitched and childlike, and strangely…familiar. I was just having trouble putting a face to it. Glancing around me, I tried to see where the voice was coming from, leaning back on my hands to support myself. I didn't see anything moving…that was until a little furry SOMETHING flew at me, the force of its small body causing my to fly backwards and land on my back again.
“GAH!”
“Over here! She's back! She came back, I told you she would!”
The small furry object was hugging my neck, and pretty tightly as well, cutting off my air enough so that I couldn't talk. The little furry thing did enough talking for me though.
“I knew you'd come back! I knew you'd come back, I knew you wouldn't leave us Kagome!”
Kag-…wait. That wasn't…this wasn't…this COULDN'T be…
The two people coming around the bend of trees stared at me.
It was.
The woman who I knew was no one other than Sango knelt down beside me, her dark eyes almost seeming kind until you looked closer as she pulled the furry object, also known as Shippo off of my throat. “Sorry about that…”
Shippo looked disappointed. “You're not Kagome…”
I rubbed my neck and sat up again. “No, I'm not.”
“Thank God…” I muttered under my breath.
I stood up and looked over the small group in front of me. I knew who they all were of course…you couldn't be with InuYasha and not know them. Sango and Miroku ((I don't care how they're spelled. This is how I spell them haha)) were standing in front of me, staring as if I'd come from another planet. I looked down at myself. I didn't look so bad considering I'd thrown on clothes over my pajamas before InuYasha and I went to Meg and Jack's apartment. I had on a pair of old running shoes, slightly faded blue jeans that were a bit wrinkled, and my red tank top that I'd been using as pajamas, as well as a red sweater over top of that that had kept me warm, and now pretty much made me decent. My hair was the same as always, flared out and streaked with funky colours as usual.
They were looking at me like I was an alien.
“How did you get through the well?”
Miroku looked curious, and started circling me like a vulture, examining me closely. I spun slowly in a circle to face him no matter how hard he tried to get around behind me. I could tell Sango was trying to force back her laughter, and Miroku looked wounded. “Why do you keep spinning like that?”
“Because I know what you do to girls when you get too close to their asses. Now back off.”
I glared at him and he took a step backwards. “Alright then, I shall respect your wishes.”
“Good.”

They took me back to a little village that they were living in at the moment, and once I was sitting comfortably on the floor, a cup of tea in my hands, they began to bombard me with questions.
“First off,” Sango said, “who exactly are you?”
“Maxine…you can call me Max if you want. I don't care.”
“Alright…how did you get here?”
I shrugged and took a sip of the tea. It was pretty good, and warmed up my hands as I held it. I looked down at it and concentrated on the swirling tealeaves in it. They sort of amused me…then again, what didn't? “I don't know. The last thing I remember is sitting in my friend's apartment and falling asleep there.”
Sango and Miroku exchanged glances. They didn't look as if they really wanted to trust me. I took another sip of the tea and tried to stay calm. I didn't have a clue as to how I got here, but I was going to make the best of it until I did. Those were my good intentions anyway. I wasn't sure how long they were going to last.
Shippo spoke up after we'd been silent for a while. “So did you come from Kagome's world?”
Sango looked over at the little creature. “She doesn't even know who Kagome is, stop asking her about things like that…”
I didn't even pause. “I came from a place sort of like that Shippo.”
They all looked at me with wide eyes. “Wait…how is it that you know Shippo's name, and you also know who Kagome is?” They didn't look so welcoming anymore. Damn it all.
“Look, I only know because…er…because…” How the hell was I supposed to explain this without giving away that they were from a TV show? “Because I know InuYasha.”
“You do?”
“Er…yah.”
“That's not possible. He's been missing for months…”
I put down the cup and held my head in my hands. “This is way too confusing for me…”
“Shoulda thought of that before you came!”
“Shippo, be polite.”

It took a long while of conversation, but we slowly began to figure out what had happened. While we didn't know exactly how I had gotten there, I knew a little of what had been going on since InuYasha had disappeared from their world…and into mine.
Apparently after he'd left, Kagome had moped around for days, waiting for him to come back. According to Sango she was heartbroken that she'd lost him, but I made her skip over that part. I didn't want to be reminded of Kagome and InuYasha and how they'd been pretty much in love. She'd stayed for weeks, not returning to her own world in fear that he'd come back while she was gone. Finally she seemed to give up hope. She went back to her own world, swearing that she had no reason to come back anymore, not even to help gather the jewel shards, now that InuYasha wasn't there. She'd given the shards they'd found so far to Sango and they hadn't seen her since. Miroku had explained how he thought that Kagome had boarded up the well from her side of it, and when she didn't come back for so long, vines and weeds began to grow and become tangled over the mouth of it so it was difficult to pass through.
It was sunset by the time we'd gotten that far, and we were still trying to figure out exactly how I'd gotten there, but each of us came up blank. We stayed up for quite a while, thinking up various possibilities, each one, (in my opinion) stupider than the last. It was only when Shippo fell asleep right then and there that we figured that we'd try and find out what had happened to mix up our worlds in the morning…for now we needed sleep.
They gave me a place to sleep and left me there, a small window in the hut opening to show me the night sky, scattered with diamond stars. I wondered what InuYasha was doing at this moment…probably worried sick, just like Jack was about Meg. Now we were both missing. Hopefully nothing had happened to Kim, since she not only had Seto, but the twins as well. I closed my eyes and drifted off to a dreamless sleep, hoping that wherever Meg was, she was in a safe place like I was, and that Kim was still with her family to make sure they were alright too.

Tah dar! Another chapter out the window. I don't really like this one myself, since I didn't have much inspiration, but it gets much more interesting, promise. Anyway…off I go to watch a movie before I type up chapter 6….cyass.
