Shadows Of An Innocent Heart

Prologue: Debt Repaid

Sitting at the head of the rectangular table was a man whom held his raven hair in a high pony tail, red pools glittering dangerously as they watched all before him. It gave him a sort of sick pleasure to know that these so called men before him would drop from their seats in the most excruciating pain of their lives by just one squeeze of the pig heart in his hand. Once a man pledged his loyalty to him, he made sure that their soul was bound to the pigs heart, ensuring that they could not betray him. His guarded eyes ran over every man, each with their own level of stoic expression upon their faces, before landing upon the one that sat directly in front of him.

Dark hair pulled back in to a high tail, dark eyes boring into his own red ones with defiance. He found himself smile sadistically. This man was not yet bound to him, but would be soon. He owed him a debt for the life of his daughter, and he would relish in the pleasure he would receive from breaking the man's spirit. He could feel his fingers itch in anticipation for the moment when he could make the proud man fall to his knees in pain, grasping at his beating heart.

"Naraku, what reason do you have to call me down here?" He questioned uneasily, though covered it up quite nicely. None in the room would have even noticed if it weren't for the fact that most were youkai, they could smell it coming off the human in bounds.

Naraku... he was a man not to be trifled with, a lord won by the right of challenge. It was simple demon law that a youkai lord, if not mated and /or had no heir, could be challenged for his place upon his seat of power. It was a law forged by the late King Inutashio so that he would not have to worry about accession should a lord be terminated with out an heir or mate to take place in their stead. Naraku had done just that, he had eliminated the demon lord of the north and claimed the worthless idiot's territory as his own. He smiled to himself as he thought about it, his move caused quite an uproar in the counsel. The humans could care less, but the demons whom had befriended the said lord, as well as allied with him were quite furious. He had done nothing to quell that furry. He held no need to as of yet. He had more important things to plan, to worry about.

"You know perfectly well why you are here." Naraku sneered. "I saved your daughter's life and in return I get yours, do you understand?" He asked slowly, as if speaking to an ignorant child.

The man's dark eyes glared in barely concealed anger. Yes, he was definitely going to have fun with his newest toy. "What if I've decided I don't want to give my life to you?" He questioned with defiance laced upon every word.

Naraku snorted. "You haven't a choice, either you do, or your entire family dies and I take what I want by force." He replied simply with a shrug, like it was the most logical thing in the world and he was an idiot for not seeing it sooner.

The man slumped back in his seat, defeated. With a heavy sigh, he reluctantly nodded. "For the life of my daughter I give you mine." Standing he moved to leave. "Your debt is repaid." He growled out irately, not once slowing his pace. When he offered up his own life to the youkai lord of the north, it did not mean his death, but his life as his fateful servant of sorts. He did not have to give up his titles, nor did he have to leave his lands, all he had to do was fallow Naraku's orders with out question.

"Wise choice lord Higurashi." Naraku smiled inwardly, that wasn't too hard. Humans always seem to have a weak spot for their families, and pathetic youkai as well, but it is mostly humans with the flaw. "As your first act, lord Higurashi, I would like your daughter to spend a few months here."

Higurashi froze in his tracks, his heart literally stopping with those words. What did Naraku want with his little girl? "Why?" He demanded warily, his head hung low. He knew that he could not out right deny the baboon lord of what he wanted, but maybe...

Naraku chuckled a bit, shaking his head with slight annoyance. He absolutely hated to be questioned, especially by those of whom he owned. "Do not worry Higurashi, I wish no harm upon the girl. If I had I would not have healed the child, I just merely wish to get to know the child I had used my precious energy to save." He mentally patted himself on the back once the relieved sigh left the man's mouth, oh he did not wish harm to the girl, but she was an essential piece in his plan. One that could not go hindered. Higurashi was not bound to him yet, and would not be until his next visit. He had to make sure the man brought his daughter along with him on that next visit.

Since Higurashi was not bound he could still pull out a stupid stunt, like sending his family away thinking that Naraku may not be able to find them. He would be able to, there was no doubt about that, but he did not wish for such hindrances to occur in his planning. He needed the young girl, there was a power with in her, one that would even rival the Great Miko Midoriko's. Nothing would stand in his way of getting what he wanted, especially the girl's father, it wasn't like the man couldn't easily be killed. He would take the girl as his own and together they would take the throne from it's current holder. All together, when the end came about, he would gain his revenge.

Naraku smiled. He liked that idea, he nodded, yes, he liked it a lot.
