InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Shattering Darkness ❯ Kagome's Choice ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

***I don't own DNangel or Inuyasha and also know that there is no chapter two as there was a screw up somewhere in the system, so please just read 1 and then 3 and continue on. (It's all there, I promise)

CHAPTER ONE:

She watched the white haired hanyou with much speculation. He was doing it again. "Inuyasha?" She asked in a whisper. He said without pausing to glance, "What, Kagome?"

"Nothing." That was all that she could take anymore. "Where did you see her?"

"What?" Inuyasha whirled around, but his eyes avoided
hers. "See who?" He voice was coated with guilt. She reached forward and yanked on his hair. And now he had no choice. His golden eyes met hers and he panicked. Inuyasha was frozen in place.

Kagome stood there for as long as a minute, before making a decision. She let her eyes go cold. It was hard to do this, but she just couldn't stand it anymore. She placed her hands on the beads that bound him to her and slipped her fingers around them.

They were cold. As cold as she felt.

His eyes were wide with shock as she slipped the necklace off his neck and held them in her own hands. "Kagome,
what are you doing?"

She stared at the beads for an eternity. And then, as if she were going to since the beginning, as if it were the most natural thing in the world, Kagome turned and walked away.

Inuyasha watched her go, wondering at her actions, before shrugging and deciding that she would get over whatever the problem was and come back.

He would let her put the beads back on. Since she was Kagome. He wouldn't refuse. Especially since he'd been with Kikyo for all the time that Kagome was gone yesterday. He frowned at his feet as he noticed that the guilt was starting to become less and less.

His heart felt light as he thought of Kikyo. And he dashed off into the night seeking her once again.

Kagome sat in her own time in the bottom of the well. Inuyasha may not have noticed it, but it was over. She couldn't stand him anymore.

She thought that she was becoming pathetic. Every time that she saw Kikyo now, she would wish the worst fate on her. And though she had once felt guilty for ever thinking such a thing, now she didn't feel the smallest bit of remorse.

Kagome loathed the dead priestess.

She had once thought to fight for Inuyasha, but it was becoming hopeless. "I once held a fraction of his heart." She whispered and buried her head in her hands. In a muffled tone, she finished, "But now I hold nothing at all."

Kagome didn't let herself cry. She used the old ladder to climb out of the well and walked into her house. Everyone was asleep at this hour. She quietly made her way to the bathroom, where she gazed into the mirror with disgust.

"Congratulations Kikyo. You win." She glared at her own stupid reflection. "You win for good this time."

"Mom?"

"Yes, Kagome?" Her mother said. She eyed her daughter warily. Kagome hadn't said anything to anyone about her arrival last night. Kagome's mother had always secretly hoped that her daughter would give up on Inuyasha. This time she had a funny feeling that it was the end.

"I want to move in with Aunt Yuri." Kagome replied.

The mother stumbled a bit. Well, it was a sacrifice, but also a step. She turned to finish washing the dishes. "Do you want us to seal the well?"

Kagome looked briefly startled. Sometimes she forgot how very perceptive Ms. Higurashi could be. She looked down at her hands. Did she want to end it all? To end it for good? Sealing the well would..."No. But if..if he comes here, don't let him know where I am."

Kagome's mother dried her hands and came to put two strong arms around her daughter. "Okay, Kagome. It's time for a change."

"That's it?" Kagome asked.

"Mm hmm. I decided long ago that he was ruining you."

Kagome wondered just what her mother meant, but refused to press her chances. "Tonight." She whispered, desperately.

"Yes." Ms. Higurashi replied. "Tonight."
