Prologue

Kagome walked up the stairs to Carson High, ignoring the usual snickers coming from the students. The sky was bright, the sun shining bright down on the sparkling steps of the school. It was hot, and the occasional refreshing breeze was welcomed warmly by the students.

Lugging her big yellow backpack up the steps, she sat down by the main doors and wiped her sweaty neck. Her black glasses slid down her nose, and pushing them up, she opened her pack and took out a book.

"Kagome!" a voice shouted. Turning, Kagome spotted her friend, Sango. "Why are you eating lunch on the steps?" the brunette asked, sitting down next to her. "It's got a lot of shade here. Plus, I want to read." Sango rolled her eyes. "You'll get a bad reputation if all you do is read." "I already have a bad reputation because I like to read." Kagome pointed out, settling back into her book.

Ignoring the whispers of other students, Kagome was totally absorbed, and didn't notice that 2 boys were looking in her direction, grinning evilly.

They were Inuyasha and Kouga, and they had been watching their friend, Miroku, ask Sango out to the prom. Smiling, Kouga leaned over to Inuyasha's ear and whispered, "Are you going with Kikyo?" Inuyasha glared harshly at Kouga. He knew perfectly well that he was not going with Kikyo. Inuyasha remembered the sudden change that morning.

Kikyo had marched straight up to Inuyasha and said, "We can't go out anymore, because I have a new boyfriend. Oh, he is just so sweet. Plus, he's a movie star. About to be, anyway. So sorry, Inu, but that's the way it is." With that, she had marched past to high school heartthrob and on to her classes.

"No, Kouga, I'm not going to the prom with her." Inuyasha said, then seeing Kouga was going to smirk, he added, "But I can chose any one of these girls here eating their lunches to go with me, and I could easily turn them into prom queen." Slowly, Kouga's face grew, as an idea hit him. "Then why don't you?' He said slyly, eyes darting from girl to girl. "Why don't I what?" Inuyasha asked. "Chose a girl and turn her into prom queen?" Kouga replied. "Oh no. Oh no." Inuyasha backed away, eyeing him suspiciously. "Come on. You said yourself it would be easy." Kouga teased. `That's right.' Inuyasha thought. `I did say that. I mean, after all, every girl in this school would die for me. How hard can it be?' "Plus, I get to pick the girl." Kouga was saying. `Okay, a little harder. No biggie.'

A loud slap brought him back to reality. Turning, he saw Miroku fall to the ground, a handprint on his face. It appeared Sango had agreed to go with Miroku, but he had ended up groping her in the end.

"Okay, I'll do it. Just name the girl." Inuyasha announced. "Great. Now, lets see." "How about Misora?" Inuyasha said hopefully. She was rather popular and good looking. "Dream on. I'm not going easy on you." Kouga said. Inuyasha tensed. "How about," Kouga paused for effect, "Kagome Higurashi?"
