Memory
He thought he remembered
the way her hand fit into his,
soft, small, gentle,
the way it could drive away his doubts,
but when he took her hand,
lifted her out of the darkness,
he discovered memory paled in comparison.
She thought she remembered
the depths of his amber eyes,
what they said about his soul,
the loneliness, the hope, the need,
burning with an intensity almost never spoken,
but when she saw him there,
devouring her with a look,
drowning her with his hope,
memory failed
as she let herself be swept up
into a reclaimed reality.
