Shelter

His two arms, bare in the moonlight
wrapped gently around her,
hands tipped with claws able to shred steel
sent shivers of contented pleasure across her skin,
arms that could bring down the worst of night's monsters,
sheltered her in their strength,
and in their circle,
she found the safe haven to drive away her fears.

And as he held her,
his mouth kissing the sweet skin of her neck,
shivering as her fingers touched a white triangular ear,
his senses dizzy with the sweetness of her scent,
he pulled her closer, once again amazed
how she let him call her wife,
at how she had bridged the years
to give him shelter for his heart,
and he knew that by a simple, loving touch
she had slain the worst of his soul's monsters.

With a low moan,
he lay her gently to the ground,
their blankets tangled around them,
and in the shelter of the moonlit dark,
the two of them celebrated
just how amazing finding their hearts' shelter was.
