A/n: I know, I keep updating. This story is starting to excite me again, like it used to. Here we go. And for anyone who used to read 'Sleep Paralysis' I updated it with a short filler chapter and I started the next one.
Coykoi: :DD! Thanks!
Ilona: Why thank you ;3;. That's very sweet!
Midcat: Yes, in fact, I was trained by evil plot bunny mecenaries that taught me to ninja your mind. How did you know?
SplendentGoddess: :D thanks so much. Lmfao hefty hefty hefty. Roflll.
Sovergeinty: YES YES YES, BACKBACKBACK.
Hentai Strumpet: <3 thanks
Unistar: Will do :>
J Luc Pitard: You know, I thought about that not long ago myself. Unfortunately, the problem with the fact I never plan out my stories like an idiot end up with me having to make some improvisions that sometimes work against me. Ah well. Either way, Shinsei-baba fulfills my need for humor in the fashion of spiritual enlightened ecchiness.
Lilyyasha: Thanks :)
Misfitstep: Hello dear! I'm happy your week was good, grats on college, work hard! banzaaai! Thanks for coming back :)

It had been 2 weeks since they had been together for the first time, and it had hardly been their last. In fact, they hadn't been able to keep their hands off each other. There had been more than once he had snatched her away from her duties and dragged her to some hidden aclove or abandoned hut and pleasured her senselessly.
She felt insatiable, and it seemed he had the same exact feelings. There would be times they'd walk by each other in the village and he'd secretly grope her. Kagome felt the redness in her cheeks deepen at the memories, ashamed she wasn't feeling... well, shame. She knew she should be ashamed of herself for her lechery, but instead the memories filled her with excitement and hunger for more.
Pressing a palm to cool her crimson cheeks, Kagome had the decency to look down at the ground in embarrassment.
What's wrong with me!
These attitudes were so unlike her, and it was everything she could do to hide them from the other villagers, who without a doubt would not appreciate her 180 in outward personality. She was supposed to be pure and modest, and though it was not unheard of that mikos married-- it was certainly unheard of that they had lovers before marriage. And even more unheard of that those lovers were well... hanyou.
Not that she gave a damn he was hanyou. And if they had a problem with it, she had no problem telling them to kiss her merry little ass and leaving. But she wanted to avoid these complications, as any training she received from Shinsei-baa-chan was definitely a plus. Knowing how to create a seal, or a barrier, or the use of medicinal herbs would definitely raise her value in being an effective guardian. Not to mention, increase her own chances of living...
Sighing softly, Kagome felt her hand trail over the Shikon no Tama in thought. It glowed warm in her touch, answering her by pulsing once in her hand like a young heartbeat. It was a hard thing to forget about, and sometimes Kagome worried about the future.
Though she was happy with Inuyasha, and though she'd never take back the decisions she made... she wondered, what if? What if something happened, and she had his child by accident? The thought originally made her happy, but then...
Then, she came crashing back into reality when a youkai attacked her about a week ago.
She was innocently strolling along with the children of the village, feeling much more light-hearted than she had all year. The children were excited for the upcoming harvest festival, inquiring her if she wished to join them, inquiring if Inugami-sama was going to accompany her. She laughed, sweating a bit and knowing how they loved to torment their poor idol. She politely declined, saying she had too many responsibilities but amused herself at the time to allowing them to regal her with tales of flowers and their familial lives.
She had barely sensed the jyaki in time.
She had let her guard down.
Faster than the children could blink, she had whipped her bow from her back and knocked an arrow, blazing with the might of a nova and just as deadly right at the youkai.
"Leave us in peace!" she had shouted at it, but it was not to be deterred. A salamander youkai, mouth frothing and eyes crazed ran straight at her.
"GIVE ME THE SHIKON JEWEL NINGEN!"
She fired.
It dodged slightly to the left, and she had purified its front leg off, but that did not slow it. She managed to parry its attack at the last second and quickly knocked another arrow, firing another shot, not missing in such a short range. The arrow buried itself into the youkai's skull, sizzling and purifying the flesh. It fell to the ground with a sickening thud of dead flesh and a short inhuman wail of terror and agony. It died not long afterward, and the children cheered on Kagome-sama, their beloved heroine.
Her self-satisfaction at its quick dispatchal was short lived.
A child behind her was crying.
Kagome felt as if ice water had been poured over her when she dropped her bow, rushing to the child. "Kagome-sama! Iteee! It h-hurts! Kagomeeee-sama...."
Blood poured from the child's thigh, the young boy clenching the wound tightly and sobbing softly to himself.
Guilt washed over her as she lifted up the child, speaking in a calming tone that she was certain musn't have been her own. Because in the recess of her mind, she was shrieking failure.
She hadn't protected someone like she was supposed to.
And the eyes she looked out of certainly couldn't have been her own, for inside herself she was hysterically wailing, begging for forgiveness for letting such an innocent bystander get hurt because of her carelessness. The eyes she stared out of were peculiarly dry, and the mouth she had formed a reassuring smile that wasn't her own, and everything she did just wasn't really who she was and she suddenly remembered all the horrible things she had hated before she had given into her love for Inuyasha.
She had been reminded of the mask that she slipped in place to hide the horror of her fate. How easily he had made her forget...
Shushing the child quietly in an attempt to console him, she held him tightly to her chest, ignoring the way his blood soaked into her hakama.
"It's ok, Shinsei-sama will have you fixed up right away. We'll make you a poultice, and you'll be better right away, ne?" her voice seemed distant and faraway, making promises she wasn't sure were going to be kept. But it seemed to help the boy, as he sniffed quietly into her neck.
That's when Inuyasha showed up, concern painted clearly on his features.
"Kagome... I smelled a youkai, is everything ok? Is it dead?"
She watched the way his throat contracted, watching him try to swallow the nervousness he was feeling. Always so protective of her, even when she was more than capable of caring for herself now... though...
...I don't want to take care of myself by myself anymore... I want him to keep me safe, like he always did.
She smiled gently at him, "Yes, it was nothing major. It was just some lizard, I took care of it myself. But poor Hito-kun here got the brunt end of the deal, didn't he? And here he is, so brave, he's not crying anymore."
Inuyasha released the breath he had been holding, then let his eyes travel to the small boy in her arms. He couldn't have been more than 6 or 7 years. Watching Kagome console him, so maternal and so tenderly touched something inside his heart that yearned...
Maybe one day...
Luckily, no major damage had been done. It wasn't as bad as it had originally appeared, and the boy was no longer limping a week later. But the experience had left Kagome uncertain about any future she might have, any chance at family.
Though she was sure, if she never had children she would never be sorry.
She'd always have Inuyasha.
A dreamy smile returned to her lips as she stripped the plant she held in her hand of its leaves, placing it carefully in the basket near her. Shinsei-baa-chan merely huffed, shaking her head in silence as the two continued their daily chores.
Smirking gently, she shook her head. She had uncovered a sort of playfulness he had never before shown, and she had to admit it was endearing. Though his recent persistence in anything he wanted to do had more than doubled to her dismay, as she felt the arms snake around her waist from behind despite her wants. He laid his chin on her shoulder as he watched her stir their stew. She felt his breath along the side of her neck, goosebumps appearing in the wake of it. Sighing contentedly, she relaxed into his embrace as she continually stirred their dinner. Kirara had climbed into her lap, her dual tails flicking happily as she lazed.
Kagome was feeling whole.
Her little family, complete with Buyo stretched out at her feet, couldn't have been more wonderful.
"Mou, I'm hungry. I wish this would finish already..." she grumped though, pouting a bit. Inuyasha kissed the side of her neck sympathetically, informing her, "Sorry, smells like it won't be done for a while."
Sighing softly, Kagome patiently pried apart his arms as she stood, turning about to face him. "Do you think you could watch it then? I haven't washed up yet from today." Inuyasha grinned at her lecherously, "Hmmm sure you don't want me to join you?"
Narrowing her eyes at him jovially, she harrumphed, "No, because then I'd take twice as long. And I'm starving. Besides, I'm not going anywhere and it's still fairly early in the night. We still have some time to spend together..." His eyes lit up at her unspoken promise as she placed a soft kiss on his lips that he returned earnestly.
Breaking off the kiss, she smiled. "I'd prefer dinner that wasn't burnt, ne?" Tapping him on the nose, she watched him grunt noncomittedly. She knew that he was agreeing just for her sake, and knew he didn't really want to agree... but she knew he'd give her anything she wanted. Clapping her hands together enthusiastically she beamed at him, "Thank you!"
Soon, it would be too cold to bathe in the river. And not long after would come the first snows... The thought made her yearn for their den, which they had not been to in over a year. She had left quite a few things that were precious to her there, and she missed them dearly. She knew it wasn't right to crave material things, but they were more than just that.
...They were sentimental memories of times Inuyasha had done things for her.
Smiling softly to herself as she disrobed, she thought of the time they had gone to Edo for her birthday. She ran her fingers across the jade necklace she never took off, the one that held the Shikon no Tama. It was as if his love had carried her through her burdens and her wounds, supporting the weight of her problems in his arms. He had always carried her for as long as she could remember.
And she couldn't ever recall a time that he seemed to resent it...
What did I do to deserve him...?
She didn't know, but all she knew was to never take him for granted.
Sliding into the cold water, she rubbed her arms to warm her body as her teeth chattered. She wanted to finish up as fast as possible, dunking her head beneath the water and scrubbing at her scalp with her fingernails. She was so wrapped up in her own thoughts she never noticed the silent audience that watched her bathe. She allowed the water to drip from her as she tried to wash away the dirt of the day, wringing out her hair in an attempt to dry it faster.
She was shivering, wet and cold and ready to return to the fire to warm herself as she turned to retrieve her clothes.
...And there stood a youkai she had never met, shining ethereally in the moonlight, frigid and deadly and gazing at her icily. His eyes roamed over her figure at leisure, as if judging her and nothing more, as if she were an insect he was considering dispatching. Kagome felt paralyzed, petrified as he watched her. She knew they were downwind, so there was not much chance Inuyasha had smelled this youkai.
Long silver hair spilled down his back, white clothes with splashes of crimson and piercing golden eyes that were all too familiar. Facial markings along his delicate cheekbones, and a crescent moon like a crown on his forehead
Kagome's heart stopped as the power of his jyaki seeped into her bones like the chill of winter, fingers of death and just as promising. All inside her skin she felt herself shivering, trying to warm her spirit against his influence.
Her voice felt like wax as it forced its way out of her throat, unable to move as she spoke, "...who are you...?"
His face remained impassive, the only thing that reached her was a voice of silk that slid over her ears like a spectre.
"...it appears my half-breed brother has taken a human mate, afterall. Why does this not surprise me?" he commented to her dryly, as if bored with her.
Sinking further into the water against his inspection, as if to hide away her imperfections, Kagome felt her brows wrinkle against her forehead in confusion.
"...what do you mean?"
In the dark, Kagome could barely make out his face. Any changes in his expression at her question was lost on her, as the rising urge to run from the youkai that unnerved her began to take hold.
"...the lengths of stupidity that half-breed shows never fails to amaze me."
"Stop talking about Inuyasha like that, damnit!" Kagome snapped, a need to defend Inuyasha from this bastard overriding her instincts of self-preservation.
Frozen eyes narrowed at her in length, "I'll see to correct you don't speak to this Sesshomaru again like that, human."
Abject terror lodged itself in her throat, a knowing that she could do nothing to stop this youkai if he so chose to kill her made her rise in the water and back away from him to put as much space between them as quickly as possible.
"Know your place ningen, and lick the ground like that half-breed should have done so long ago."
Faster than she could blink, he was in her face and staring down at her, pressing claws into her throat. Tears of pain pricked her eyes, as she clawed feebly at his wrist, her purification powers flaring against his jyaki uselessly.
"...Miko. Go ahead. Scream for the half-breed. Show him there is nothing in this world he can do for you, so he may know that he is nothing."
Kagome closed her eyes against the threat, her heart pounding against her ribcage like a trapped bird. She leaned as far away from him as she could, her breath coming out in horrified pants.
Ignoring his request for her to call out to Inuyasha, she watched crimson tint his eyes in surpressed rage as he snarled at her, "I said, scream."
This time, she had no problem in complying in fear.
"INUYASHA!"

Chapter 34: Truth of the Matter Is...
Kagome smiled shyly over her shoulder with hooded lids as Inuyasha unabashedly eye fucked her from across the field. Her hands steadied in their work, once again distracted by Inuyasha, and Shinsei-baa-chan sighed irritably behind her. "If you cannot satisfy your lusts at night, Kagome, I'd prefer you not to drag them into the day here. Don't bother showing up if you can't pay attention to ancient teachings I bestow upon you... Hentai." Kagome felt herself go red from head to toe, steaming-she was sure-at being caught red handed drooling after Inuyasha. It had been 2 weeks since they had been together for the first time, and it had hardly been their last. In fact, they hadn't been able to keep their hands off each other. There had been more than once he had snatched her away from her duties and dragged her to some hidden aclove or abandoned hut and pleasured her senselessly.

"Stop it, baka. I'm trying to cook!" Kagome swatted away Inuyasha's hands that were reaching for her waist mischeviously, a protest coming from behind her. "Kagooome..."Smirking gently, she shook her head. She had uncovered a sort of playfulness he had never before shown, and she had to admit it was endearing.
