“FOOOOOOOD!” Sota flung down the staircase wafting the sweet scent of the stomach rumbling delicacy. His voice echoed as his mother quickly placed the dinner on the table before Sota, Kagome's younger brother clumsiness would cause the food to be no more.

“Kagome are you coming?!” Mrs. Higurashi, Kagome affectionate mother called up the staircase as Kagome emerged from her hiding place. She heaved a sigh still thinking about the strange boy in the snow.

Who exactly he?

And…

Why or more like how did he disappear so fast?

She shook her head as trampled down the fleet of stairs. No need to keep these questions drowning he normal thoughts. She had already spent an hour up in her room thinking about nothing else.

“Yes.” Kagome replied simply, gracefully falling down the stairs. It was obvious both her and her brother inherited their clumsiness from their grandparents.

“Well you better come fast before Sota devours you part too!” Mrs. Higurashi commented scowling the scampering brat almost clawing at the pan of food. Kagome chortled at the amusing sight before her.

“You're such a idiot Sota…” Kagome continued to snicker to herself earning the same discouraging look as her brother.

“Do you two ever stop fighting?” Mrs. Higurashi sighed in exasperation.

“It's not my fault she's such a- - such a - - such a dumb but!” Sota stuttered trying to think of a reply with a smart mouth comment.

“Dumb but?! Pff!” Kagome wheezed slyly.

“Kagome!” Her mother hissed.

“Ha!” Sota quickly smirked talking a small step back after he realized what had just `slipped' out of his mouth. He received yet another icy glare from his mother.

“You get off each other throats and lets start to eat!” Mrs. Higurashi exclaimed in grief.

“Yes mother.” Both Kagome and Sota bowed their head sand replied. Kagome and Sota took their rightful place at the dinner table.

“Good.” Mrs. Higurashi heaved and placed two plates with some sort of casserole on them in front of the now sitting siblings. Kagome frowned slightly at the display before debating with herself if it was sanitary or down right foul. She lift her eyes lightly from her point of concetration just get a look at the boy across from her. Sota gobbling down the grungy looking meal and slopped all over his face in the progress.

Mrs. Higurashi sat down and slowly ate her dinner discouragely to see her daughter only poking at it with a chopstick. In much displeasure she almost sulked in the stop thinking about her enjoyable food being giving repelling looks form Kagome.

“Kagome are you gonna eat or not?” She asked tenderly as Kagome head flashed upwards.

“Oh yea… Just thinking…” Kagome half lied.

“Bout what sweetie?” Mrs. Higurashi chirped in curiosity. Sota, his face practically blowing through his food stopped in its tracks.

It was the `perfect' chance to give his sister a straight lane for trouble.

“Probably the `boy' she so called `saw' in the snow!” Sota exclaimed harshly.

“What boy?” Mrs. Higurashi asked timidly showing interest in her eyes.

“Oh I was cold and I couldn't see… I was just seeing things.” Kagome protested.

“Kagome you know what I've told about wondering into the snow especially on a day like this! There was a bad storm coming through you knew that!” Mrs. Higurashi scolded as Sota face grew wider with a grin. Kagome glanced to the side already perceiving Sota would such a thing.

“I know I wasn't out in the snow at first!” Kagome debated raising her voice feeling the anger for her brother as well her mother grow.

“Then where were you!?” She questioned slight rage merged with her voice.

“I was DOING my chores like you TOLD ME TO!” Kagome exclaimed getting close to a scream.

“Don't you DARE talk to me like that! I AM your mother!” Mrs. Higurashi howled sharply.

“I can if I want!” Kagome snapped back grabbing her plate ready to launch up the staircase and standing up in the process. Mrs. Higurashi imitated in reaction.

“KAGOME! Tell me what happened NOW!” She demanded Kagome's eyes filling with water by the second.

“I SAW A BOY IN THE SNOW AND I WENT AFTER THAT'S ALL!” Kagome exclaimed feeling hot fluids rush to her face as her forehead squished together to create fine creases along the pale skin.

“KAGOME!?”

“WHAT, I TOLD YOU!” Kagome screamed back feeling as if curiosity was a crime nowadays.

“Kagome…” Her mother repeated dragging her voice into a cold cruel state sending shivers down her daughter's spine. Mrs. Higurashi lowered her head a sighed roughly letting out the air with great force. Both did Sota and Kagome know what that meant. Her dead calmness that came directly after her screaming voice was pounding ears…

“Kagome, I think the cold is getting to you…” She said eye filled with crimson darkness.

“I want you to go upstairs and gets some rest and we'll talk about this when you come to your senses…” Mrs. Higurashi directed lightly not letting her fear show.

Kagome stood wide eyed in shook at her mother statement. Kagome could take her mother yelling at he but- - She looked up and saw her mother turn away brushing a cold shoulder her way. This was worse plain worse punishment.

`but'…

Kagome tried to mother but only left herself speechless.

“Kagome go.” Her mother stated firmly not looking back to even moment.

Tears swelled up in the young women's eyes. Her mother was never this harsh. It was almost like she thought her own daughter was crazy.

Slowly not to alarm Sota who was backed up far from the destruction area she dragged her anxiety fulfilled body to her room. Thoughts racing through her head about the boy wondering out there…

And why her mom was like this… All she did was wonder off into the snow a bit and found her way perfectly FINE back…

“Stupid life…” Kagome mumbled forsakingly before diving into her fluffy bed. Feeling her body almost be absorb but the cushiony blanket was relieving. She wiggling unwilling to get herself comfortable so she could just sit and think.

There was nothing else she wanted to do at moment.

The idea of listening to conversation downstairs had dried up pretty quickly including the point that the only words flowing through the walls were `Could you pass the salt and pepper please?' and even those were rare.

`Why…?' Kagome was able to whimper in a whisper sound. The raspiness of her fragile voice and hearing it herself could only make regretful tears flow quicker from her cheeks.

There was no explanation for this.

She needed to do one thing…

Kagome sighed to herself and she rolled over on her back and straightened her body out. She stared straight eyed at the ceiling. She couldn't just stay here. This one chance of mystery, one chance of actual entertaining life could be in this concealed in the boy hiding some where out in the snow drift.

She could barely stand being here when her mom was like this and she was having a hard time controlling herself not to run out into the dark and try to `find' the boy… The only thing preventing her from doing so was the sensibility. Or was it?

Was there anything really keeping her here?

`Not really…' Kagome thought to herself sitting up and staring at the space in between her and the wall. Nothing was stopping her from finding the boy!

But what would her mother do…?

Kagome sighed thinking about her mother's reaction to this afterwards. Would she hit her shun her, disown her?

She wouldn't disown her…would she?

maybe…

But if she stayed here she would surely die of angst and she knew clearly of that.

Her boring life had been here in the same place for 15 years and she was not going to waste another moment. Kagome ordered herself as she shot her body up on the solid and walked towards her closet. She rang her fingers through the many school uniforms, mini-skirts and warm fleece sweaters.

She sighed to herself once again crinkling her forehead in stress…

She couldn't live in arctic like conditions with mini skirts and sweaters?

There had to be something better to wear. She silently tip toed over to her dresser where she madly ripped through the many more skirts and shorts…

Did she not have a single pair of pants in her wore drobe?!

After many minutes of scattering single pair of longer mini skirt or at least comfortable ones Kagome realized her main need for this trip…

Pants!

And the only place she knew where there was warm comfy pants other than a mall was her father old closest….

No one had gone it for years and if Kagome had second options other than freeze to death she would take them on the blink of an eye.

Placing one foot in front of each other placing each foot on the hard wood ground ever softly Kagome managed to get into her mother and her `dead' father's bedroom. Eyeing the large dresser across the room containing Kagome's key to her survival she almost glided to it sliding across the room on the hard wood with her white dust layered socks.

She looked around the room knowing it would be the last times he would ever see this sight. Burgundy details and layers covered the room. It was her mother favorite colour and it had always been this way. The crisp bronze finish of the hardwood just darkened the room that much more. Two large windows with balconies attached were on the right side with ivory shades. The bed was a queen that replaced the king that once stood there. Burgundy covers just like the rest of the interior. Then the dresser standing out the most with it's snow-white finish was where any eye would fall one first.

Digging her greedy hands into the draw like it was a treasure chest she snacked what she desired.

Her head flipped back as she heard her mother's footsteps come tramping up the stairs…

If her mother saw her she would surely get beaten just her father used to do. She shook her head and ridiculous actions hoping the agonized thoughts would be thrown out of her head. Grabbing what she needed in the blink of an eye she hid behind the door just in the nick of time. Her mother came waddling still in her dreary mood and a deep sigh was heard through out the room.

Mrs. Higurashi kneeled down on the side of her bed clasping her hands together as Kagome watched in bewilder.

“Oh kami, Please let Kagome see I just don't want her to suffer the same fate as her father, I may not have loved him but I love Kagome dearly as my daughter.” Mrs. Higurashi spoke calmly eyes shut and full of meaningful troubles. Kagome almost choked on thin air surrounding her self as she knew she had to get out of the room before she decided not to go.

She knew to clearing what her father was like. Her mother didn't love him and it was entirely true. She hated him though he loved her. The only thing keeping them together was her first ready to strike at any time.

Using the same technique Kagome slid silently across the glassy floor. As her mother trance let Kagome sneak back into her room where she was suposively supposed to be. She held the pants pleasingly in her hand.

They were old and a pale gray but that fact didn't matter at the moment. They were fleecy with an outside lining that would make them great over pulls while she wore the other pair of pants she had quickly found.

They were tattered but just like the other pair but they were tepid and that was the main thing Kagome needed to worry about at the moment in the wilderness. She needed to get enough supplies to keep her tenderly warm.

That's what she knew she had to find…

Kagome took one last look at her surroundings. Her room filled with pink and purple looking like a fantasy room with unicorn prancing here and there hiding the fact Kagome was dying inside.

This would be no more once she found the boy in the snowdrifts…

She lashed the window open whipping her head back and forth after the sound echoed the dorming house. She glared at the digital alarm clock placed on her desk still set to 7:30 am…

The next morning it would ring to wake up no one.

It read 1:37am. It was early and the sluggish ways of this hour were already taking over her. But she knew she had to leave now or never…

She heaved one last sighed and leaped out the window with the rope she had made with thin extra sweater she would not bring with her. She landed a `THUMP' on the first layer roof.

Scantily she jumped off the low-rise roof to land on the icy snow cover land as she pulled up her boots careful not to let snow impel into to them.

Kagome shifted her weight of heavy bag hug across her shoulder and started walking…

Into the cold night …

The air was stiff in the ridged temperature…

Perfect for her escape to the world of freedom and her mystery to be solved…

Kagome shivered as her body shook with fear. It was so cold. So bitter. Her body had become numb many hours ago but now it was the stinging of her cheeks and nose the hurt the most. It was an unbearable pain that made her lose thoughts on anything that she tried to think about.

She couldn't think straight in the first place. It was obvious to herself she had hypothermia but if she could keep walking till sun rose she would be alright…

But if she didn't…

She would parish in the snow…

Her legs ached with icy numbness and deep muscle pain that pulsed through her legs.

She couldn't walk any longer.

She tumbled to the ground catching her breath as she saw the smoke rise in the air from the heat coming from her mouth.

Breathing heavily she didn't notice the figure watching her carefully from the wood like surrounding.

She needed rest. Kagome knew it was no point fighting it but she also knew that she would pass out and never awaken tot he world she knew if she slept.

She had to stay awake she had to- -

Kagome body collapsed in the snow as the world around her faded in her unconsciousness…
