InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ So what happens now? ❯ Memories ( Chapter 2 )
Part 2
Sunlight filtered in through the blinds, and the aroma of coffee was
heavy. Kagome was slumped over the table only half awake. Her whole body ached from sleeping on the uncomfortable couch.
`I feel horrible, like I'm drained or something.'
"Good thing it's spring break. I don't think I could take school
today."
When her feudal adventures were over, Kagome had worked hard to catch up
in school. She was 17 then. Now, at almost 22, she was in medical
school, working even harder so she could become a doctor. After all
the wounds she had bandaged as a teenager, it just seemed like the
natural thing to do.
Sipping her coffee, Kagome decided she needed to get out of the house. There were
some things she needed to think about. Changing into a sundress and
sandals, she headed to a place that was the site of a battle. Not
just any battle though, but Naraku's end.
~~~~~
Ten minutes later, Kagome finally made it to her destination after
shoving her way down the streets of Tokyo. The park was one of the
few peaceful spots in the city, which was strange for someone who
had the seen the battle it had hosted almost 500 years ago.
From her bench, Kagome was seeing it all again, just like she
did every time she came here.
****Flashback****
"Kagome, watch out!" Shippou cried.
Whipping around, she let another arrow fly and in a burst of blue energy
the last of Naraku's army had evaporated.
Naraku himself was on his last leg. It was him against a group
thirsty for revenge. Kanna's mirror had been cracked, Kohaku was dead
without a jewel shard, Kagura laid against a tree suffering from the
fatal wounds Kouga had inflicted, and Kikyo was finally released from
her miserable existence. Speaking of…
"Would you care to know how she died, Inuyasha?" Naraku chuckled.
The hanyou gritted his teeth and clenched his sword. "You bastard,
when I get through with you, you'll wish you'd never heard of the
Sacred Jewel!"
Inuyasha attacked with renewed fervor with Miroku and Sango's help,
but the tentacle's kept regenerating after it was destroyed. What made the situation worse was that Naraku wasn't even trying.
A/N: Oops! Sorry I left out a few things in the first chapter. First of all, I don't own Inuyasha. Second, a BIG thanks goes out to NivalRose for being my beta reader! These chapters wouldn't be posted without her!
`I've got to do something.' Kagome frantically thought.
`His shards! If I can get his shards that should make him weak
enough for the others to handle.'
With trembling hands she picked up her last arrow. Notching it in place, she drew
it back and poured all her concentration into focusing on the tainted
shards. Naraku's head swiveled toward the girl and his eyes narrowed.
He wasn't an idiot. That miko, she had destroyed his body once, she
could do it again. In the blink of an eye, Kagome released the arrow,
just as a tentacle raced towards her body.
The powerful arrow pierced Naraku as he roared in pain, the
baboon pelt ripped, flinging his part of the jewel to the ground.
Quickly Kirara retrieved it while Sango fended off the
tentacles that searched frantically for the jewel. Inuyasha sniffed the
air, and froze.
"Kagome!"
Kagome stared in horror at the deep hole in her shoulder. She raised her hand
to touch it and her palm turned red with blood. Staggering forward,
Inuyasha caught her as she dropped to her knees. She was sobbing and
the hanyou was about to go insane from rage.
"Inuyasha it hurts so bad……." Kagome began.
And then Inuyasha snapped.
`How dare he hurt MY Kagome…'
Gently he set Kagome up against a small tree
and whispered, "Don't move. You'll only make your wound worse. " When
she nodded in understandance, he stood up and headed to Naraku while Miroku and Sango
took care of Kagome.
Inuyasha's eyes glowed red, showing that his demon blood
wanted to be released, and for the first time ever, Naraku felt fear.
His power was gone and all he could do was weakly defend himself.
"You've gone too far. This is the end Naraku! Any last words?" Inuyasha yelled angrily.
Naraku's glare became a smirk. "I'll die happy knowing Kikyo's
reincarnation dies as well."
And suddenly Naraku's head was rolling on the ground, forever fixed
in a smirk.
Sheathing his sword, Inuyasha rushed to Kagome's side.
Kneeling, he took one look and his heart sank. She had passed out and
her breathing was shallow.
Sango was crying with a wailing Shippou in her arms. Miroku's
expression was grave as he said, "Inuyasha, I'm afraid-"
"Don't say anything monk." He growled.
Carefully, Inuyasha picked her up and carried her to the well.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Everything was black, and no matter where she looked, Kagome saw nothing.
"Miroku? Shippou? Inuyasha! Where are you?" She called out into the darkness.
"Kagome you must listen to me," a calm voice replied.
Turning the girl gasped.
"Midoriko!"
The beautiful miko nodded.
"Am I….dead?" Kagome asked carefully.
"No, but you must know, that when you awake, your time in this era
will be short. After the jewel is joined, you will return to your own time in a matter of moments.
Kagome, one day it will be your task to purify the jewel with a wish
made by yourself. This is your duty."
Kagomes mind raced. `I'm leaving Inuyasha…'
As the image of the miko faded, she called out.
"Wait! What do I wish for?"
Midoriko paused for a moment before answering.
"That is your decision, trust your heart Kagome. I know'll you
will choose wisely. Oh and Kagome, thank you……"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kagome sucked in a deep breath and opened her eyes. She looked up to
find herself in the lap of a stunned Inuyasha.
"My shoulder, its not bleeding anymore."
Looking down she saw the full Shikon no Tama in her lap.
"This is all my fault, I didn't protect you-" Inuyasha started, but was interrupted by Kagome.
"Inuyasha wait. No, it's not your fault. I can't explain why, but I
don't have much time left in this era. Trust me on this."
"You're leaving?" Inuyasha asked, hurting at the thought.
"I don't have a choice, but Inuyasha I want you to know that no
matter what, I will always love you." She paused. "Until the day I
die."
And for the second time in her life, she kissed him. He held
on to her like a lifeline as the kiss showed what words couldn't.
Sadness, love and desperation.
Just as the kiss deepened, Kagome's body slowly began to glow
blue. She felt a floating sensation and panicked.
"Inuyasha!"
"Kagome, no! You can't leave me, you're mine!"
But it was too late. Higurashi Kagome had returned to her own time.
***End Flashback***
Kagome sighed and rested her chin in her hand.
`Why am I thinking about this now?'
"Kagome!"
She turned around to see Hojo waving at her. Kagome stood up to
embrace him as Hojo gave her a quick kiss.
"Kagome, are you feeling well? You look sick."
Giving an overly fake smile, she answered, "Oh no, nothings wrong.
Really, everything's fine."
`At least, I hope it is."
