This is the story of The Shikon Miko, and her friends, her life and her love. She loved with all of her heart and never held back. However, when one experiences a pain so bad, one closes themselves up to the world outside. They bottle their emotions so that they can no longer be hurt. This is what happened to the Shikon Miko, this is what will be come to known as the tale that started it all.

~flash back~

Kagome was sitting underneath the goshin-boko tree in the dying sun as the day came to an end. It had been a month since the last time she had been home, and seen her family. However, she was more concerned that she finish her quest for the shikon shards and complete the jewel.

As she sat, contemplating what might happen, she started to notice the sudden drop in temperature. As is customary with Kikyo's appearances her shiki-gami started to light up the surrounding forest.

“Well, if it isn't my precious reincarnation. What are you doing out here all by yourself?” Kikyo stated, as if she were talking about the weather.

“Actually Kikyo, I came out here all by myself to get away from Inuyasha, however, if you want to talk to him go ahead he's in the village.” Kagome said while still looking at the sky and not taking much notice of the undead one. “However, know that you are no longer welcome in the village, because everyone there knows that you are supposed to be dead. If you were to go walking in there they would more than likely run away from you.”

“You don't mind that I talk to the hanyou? I thought you loved him? What has happened that has changed your mind?” Kikyo asked truly curious, for once in her undead life.

“Because I am broken.” Kagome stated, as she looked at the undead creature, “I no longer care if he goes to you, I knew a long time ago that I would have no place in his heart. It is just a shame that he can't find some way to bring you to life, that doesn't include killing me.” Kagome stated as she finally noticed that there were others in the clearing beside her and Kikyo. “Inuyasha I presume that you are here to speak with Kikyo, I will leave you to speak in private. “

Kagome stood and brushed herself off. Walking away she paused and looked back “Please do not drag him to hell as of yet he still has a mission to accomplish, and if you were to drag him back now then your revenge would be unfounded.” Turning she continued to walk towards the direction of the village. As soon as she stepped foot into the village Sango stepped into pace with her.

“Kagome, He went to see her didn't he?” she asked already knowing the answer. “I don't see why you continue to allow him to see her, when he has told and promised to protect you.” She stated.

“It is not in me to disallow someone to see someone else because of a promise. However, I asked her that she not drag him to hell with her. I know that she will do so once the mission is over; I hold no hopes for a future with him. He made a promise to her first anyway. So why should I have him go back on his word for me. You know me as well as anyone; it would hurt me more to keep him chained to me than for him to go to her.” Kagome stated as though she were talking about the weather, it wasn't as if she didn't smile anymore, it was just harder for her to smile if she had nothing to smile about. With the exception of Shippo that is.
