InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Somewhere in Her Memory ❯ Tell Me a Story ( Chapter 9 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Meh. I have a workload the size of Texas and I get like 2 hours of free time each day. Seriously, by the time I get home and finish my homework, it's just about time to go to bed. So yeah, that's my excuse. I can only work on weekends.
So, from the reviews I see that last chapter was pretty okay. Oh yeah, speaking of reviews. If you want me to reply to them, just put a little R or something at the end of your reviews, just so I know. That's about all. Yeah.
RECAP
Shippo shyly stepped forward. "S-Sesshomaru-sama, what does cas-castrated mean?"
Sesshomaru sent a death glare to all in the group behind him and to Inuyasha, who started…organizing the trash. “Where did you hear that, Shippo?”
Shippo took a deep breath. “Well, I was in my room and I couldn't sleep and I was thirsty so I was gonna get a drink and I was about to go outside when Inuyasha yelled, `What the hell Kagome, you freaking castrated me!'” He said in his best Inuyasha voice. “Then Kagome said, `It should be safe here.'” He said in a high squeaky voice. “Then Inuyasha said, `Lemme get you outta here before you castrate Sesshomaru.'” He finished in an Inuyasha voice again. “Then Kagome said mumfh-” He was cut off when Kagome jumped up with surprising speed for a human and covered Shippo's mouth with her hand. She pushed him out of the room and gave him a death glare. “You ever finish that sentence and you'll wish that you had never met Kagome Higurashi.”
Shippo gulped, nodded, and scurried away, but not before going back to collect Rin.
“Ehhehe. Inuyasha let's go so I can tuck you in. It's way past your bed time.” Kagome said, walking back into the room and dragging Inuyasha out by his hair.

Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha…to put it bluntly.
Chapter 9: Tell Me a Story
“Inuyasha, let me in!” Kagome yelled and heard some crashing coming from the other side of the door.
“Hold-” There was some grunting and cursing. “on-” More grunting and crashing. “dammit!” Then there was silence.
“Inuyasha? Are you okay in there?” She asked, now concerned. There was no answer. `Is he dead?' Just as she was about to call him again, Inuyasha opened the door.
“It's about time.” She stepped inside and looked around. She didn't know what she expected, but it wasn't this. Stepping into Inuyasha's room was like stepping into a forest. It wasn't filled with trees or anything. In fact, there was no sign of actual plant life in his room. Instead, all four of his walls were painted like a forest. And on his thick carpet was a beautiful mix of browns and greens. Each wall had a different scene. Two of them showed two different, tree shadowed paths, that both gave the illusion that his room stretched on for miles. If you looked close enough, one of the paths had a door, which probably led to the closet. Another wall showed a hot spring. One of the rocks in the spring had a door, which no doubt led to the bathroom. The wall behind his bed portrayed a large tree that looked similar to Goshinboku. His bed fit perfectly into the scene. The sheets were made of dark green silk. There were three large pillows made of a different material, meant to look like logs. It was perfectly…peaceful.
“Are you just gonna stand there gaping all night, or what?” Inuyasha asked, impatiently and disappeared behind the hot spring door, which was indeed a bathroom.
She blushed then smiled and tried to make herself comfortable in his…forest. `Inuyasha's forest. I like the sound of that.'
*S*I*H*M*
“Will you hurry up?!” Kagome said, exasperated, because Inuyasha had been taking an extremely long time `brushing his teeth' in the bathroom. “Inuyasha, I have to pee. And I am not walking all the way down that hall!”
“Gen go preu.” (Then go pee.) He answered trying not to laugh.

“You're impossible!” She said and threw her hands up into the air. “You had better not peek or else I really will castrate you and not just your stupid statue.” She warned, walking into the bathroom.

He spit out the toothpaste and rinsed out his mouth. “Feh, like I would wanna peek at you anyway.” He walked out of the bathroom.

Soon after, she came out and found him lying in his bed. She rolled her eyes and pulled the covers up to his neck, wishing she could strangle him with them. She turned to leave.

“Where do you think you're going. Your job's not done.” He called to her.

`What is he implying?' She asked herself. “I am not sleeping with you.” She said out loud.

“I never said that you had to. I was just gonna tell you that tucking in requires that you tell me a story.” He smirked. “What were you thinking?”

Kagome blushed. “I was just telling you that I'm not sleeping in here. I'm going to talk with Sango in her room. It's too cold in here, anyway.” She said sticking her nose up in the air defiantly.

“You and I both know that Miroku's gonna be in Sango's room. And you know what happens when Miroku's in a room. As for the cold, that's what blankets are for. Plus, the room that Sango is in right now has always been extremely cold, even in the summer. It's been that way ever since we put in the bathroom. All the cold air seems to go in there now.” He said in a smug voice.

She frowned. He was right. `Well, being frozen is better than being here with Inuyasha.'

Whatever, you know you like him.

Who said that?

You should know me by now. I'm the one that appears every time that you deny the fact that you like this delectable little-

Please don't finish that sentence.

I'd stop telling you the truth if you would stop fighting with me and go lie down.

Geez, you'reannoying.

I try.

You had better not come back for a long time.

You had better get in that bed.

I give up.

`My conscience is such a pain. When did I start talking to myself, anyway?' Kagome sat next to Inuyasha. “Okay so what story do you want to hear?”

“Ehh, you pick. I don't care.”

She sighed and thought for a second. “Okay. I have one.” She leaned back against the pillows. “This is a story that my mom told me once. She said that the story has passed down from generation to generation since it happened. Which is about, ehh...500 years ago, I guess.”

`This should be interesting.' Inuyasha cleared his throat. “Go on.”

She glared at him and started. “Once upon a time, there was hanyou named Inuyasha. He wanted a jewel called the Shikon No Tama so that he could become a full demon. At the time, a very powerful priestess named Kikyo was guarding the jewel. The two met and soon fell in love. One day Kikyo asked Inuyasha if he would use the jewel to become human so they could be together and he agreed to meet her the next day so that he could make the wish. But, before they could meet, an evil hanyou named Naraku tricked them both into thinking one had attacked the other. Inuyasha, feeling betrayed by Kikyo, stole the Sacred Jewel, but before he could make his wish, Kikyo pinned him to a tree of time with one of her sacred arrows. She died soon after and the jewel was burned with her body. But, the story doesn't end there.”

She paused for a second to look at Inuyasha to see if he was still listening.

“Kagome.” Inuyasha said. “Where did your mom learn that story?”

“I told you. My mother said that it has been passed down from generation to generation. Her grandmother Midoriko taught it to her. And she taught it to me. Why do you want to know, anyway?”

“No reason. I just wanted to know.” He said. `Midoriko. I've heard that name before. Of course. The jewel's former guardian. But, how did Kagome's mom know that? It's probably all that damned Midoriko's fault anyway.'

“Well do you want to hear more?” She asked.

“Yeah.” He said and moved a little closer to her. But, not too noticeably close.

“Okay well, like I said, The story doesn't end there. Fifty years later, another girl named Midoriko who was my who knows how many great grandmother was dragged down the ancient well by a centipede demon who wanted the jewel. She went wandering for a while and eventually stumbled upon the tree where Inuyasha was pinned. The centipede demon attacked from out of nowhere and ripped her side open causing the jewel that was somehow inside her body to fall out. The centipede then pinned her up against the tree with its tail and swallowed the jewel. Inuyasha then awoke and told Midoriko to pull the arrow out of his chest so he could kill the demon. Ignoring the warnings from the villagers, Midoriko pulled the arrow out and Inuyasha destroyed the demon. Midoriko had the power to see the jewel even though it was still in the demon's body. She pulled it out and Inuyasha attempted to steal it...again. The village priestess chanted a spell and suddenly a rosary appeared around Inuyasha's neck. The rosary had the power to slam Inuyasha into the ground every time Midoriko said the word-”

“Please don't say that word.” Inuyasha said suddenly.

“Why not?” She asked, annoyed. This was her favorite part of the story.

“It ruins the story and makes him sound like a regular dog instead of a dog demon.” He pouted. `That was the most retearded excuse ever. She's never gonna believe that.'

“Oh. Okay. You know, you look cute when you pout.” She said then blushed. `You look cute when you pout? I can't believe I just said that. Stupid. Stupid.' She mentally smacked herself in the forehead.

“Feh.” He said, also blushing. Then he smirked. “So you think I'm cute, eh?” He loved making her feel uncomfortable.

Blushing she raised her voice and continued with the story. “While trying to save the jewel from being taken by a crow, Midoriko accidentally split the jewel into shards with one of her sacred arrows. Thus began Inuyasha and Midoriko's shard hunting journey. The priestess, Kikyo was brought back to life by a witch named Urasue and was kept intact by feeding off of women's souls and was fueled by her hatred for Inuyasha.

Inuyasha and Midoriko were soon joined on their journey by a perverted monk, a young demon exterminator who brought her pet neko, and a small kitsune who's names have been lost over time. Each had their own reasons for wanting to defeat Naraku.

Naraku had cursed the men in the monk's family to be born with an air void in the palm of their right hand. The monk had to kill Naraku in order to remove the void before he was sucked into the void like his father.

The demon exterminator was after Naraku to avenge the people of her village. Naraku had controlled her younger brother and used him to slay the people of the village. Since her brother was still under the control of Naraku, the tajiya decided she would help defeat Naraku to get back her brother.

As for the kitsune, his parents had been murdered by the Thunder Brothers and he had nowhere to go, so he joined the group, eventually seeing Midoriko as a mother figure.

After three years of searching for Naraku, they finally defeated him and Midoriko thinking that Inuyasha didn't love her, made a wish that purified the jewel and then went back to her time to live in pain and misery until her death. Along with her went the jewel. Inuyasha's friends left him when he mated with Kikyo. The demon exterminator and the monk adopted the kit and got married to each other. Kikyo eventually dragged Inuyasha to hell with her. The End.” She smiled, satisfied.

`WHAT!' Inuyasha scowled. “That's not what happened!” He yelled.

“Yes it is. This story has been passed down in my family for generations…” Kagome said sticking her nose in the air.

“Well it must have gotten messed up along the way cuz that's not what happened.”

She rolled her eyes. “Fine then what `really' happened.” She said sarcastically.

“First of all, Inuyasha never mated with Kikyo because and he didn't love her. Second of all, almost everyone who was somehow acquainted with Midoriko ended up in her era, for reasons that are still unknown. Third of all, Inuyasha never mated with anyone because he loved Midoriko, but when he finally found Midoriko in her time, she had absolutely no recollection of ever meeting him or any their adventures together. And to this day, Inuyasha still couldn't get her to remember. That's what really happened.” Inuyasha finished breathing heavily. `Stupid wench, getting me all worked up.' Suddenly, Kagome lovwered her head and he began to smell salt. `Damn, what's she crying about now?' “Kagome, what's the matter.” She didn't respond. “I'm sorry okay. I didn't mean to yell.”

She turned around with tears in her eyes. “It's not that. It just- It's so sad. It's such a sad legend. Midoriko didn't remember him. He found her, a-and she didn't even remember him.” She ended softly.

Inuyasha pulled her into an embrace.

She was shocked to say the least. `Is he- hugging me?' “Inuyasha?”

“Shh.” He whispered and pulled her so that she was laying against his chest. “Don't cry. She might have not remembered him but that never stopped him from loving her. He knows that somewhere deep down, she loves him too. He's happy, okay. Now, go to sleep.” He whispered in her ear.

`This is a side of him that I've never seen before. I like it.' “Inuyasha.” She breathed and let sleep over take her.
