Chapter 14: Put Your Faith and Love in Me
Anubis_Himura
~* The dawn is breaking
a light shinning through
You're barely waking
and I'm tangled up in you.
I'm open your closed
I'll follow, you'll go
I worry, I won't see your face
Light up again.
Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the wrong words seem too right
Out of the doubt that fills my mind
Somehow find, you and I collide
I'm quiet you know
You make a first impression
I've found I'm scared to know I'm always on your mind
Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the stars refuse to shine
Out of the back you fall in time
Somehow find you and I collide
Don't stop here
I've lost my place
I'm close behind *~
~*~*~
"No Kagome! Gods no. I accept you Kagome. I love you! Please, please don't leave me." Inuyasha cradled her body to him. "Please, please don't leave me." tears welled up in his amber eyes as he fought not to cry. "Kagome, please. Please. . . please . . . please. . . "
"It's too late Inuyasha. She's gone. The stench of death is in the air."
"Shut up Sess. She'll be okay. Come on Kags, wake up. Wake up wench. Please Kags."
"Inu-"
"Leave him be Sesshomaru." Nahori wiped a tear from her eye and steered her son out of the room, leaving her other son to grieve the loss of his love.
~*~
Inuyasha awoke with a start, he felt the warm liquid of his tears streaming down his cheeks. He quickly wiped them away, as though someone would be looking at him. He breathed deeply, trying to do anything in his power to take the thoughts away from his head. Kagome wasn't dead yet; yet being the operative word.
His breathing regulated as he continued to tell himself, Kagome was alive. She was in the guest room. She was alive. Over and over again he told himself. He didn't believe his words. He had to check for himself. He got out of bed and practically ran to the next room. He opened the door and looked in.
The moonlight lit Kagome's face and she stirred at the sound of the creaking door. Inuyasha felt himself relax and his face softened. Kagome turned over and Inuyasha closed the door. This time he was on the inside. He walked over to Kagome's bed and kneeled down next to her. There was no time left to be subtle. It was day four. Even if he had more time, he couldn't delay.
He gently stroaked Kagome's hair, she stirred again. He thought she was going to wake up. Yell at him, and no doubt hate him even more. She didn't. What she did, was even more astonishing. She rolled over, pulling Inuyasha's hand with her, as though it were a teddy bear. But what was even more shocking was what she whispered. As though it were merely a rustling in the wind, anyone who was not paying close attention to the girl, would have thought it was the wind whispering through the curtains. But distinctly Inuyasha could hear her say the only the thing that made his heart flutter. She whispered his name in her sleep. Nothing could have made him happier at that moment.
~
Day break wasn't far off. Inuyasha was cuddled next to Kagome, his arm around her waist as she held it close to her. His right arm under her neck. Kagome woke up, almost suddenly. She looked out the window, not realizing that another person lay in her bed, until she felt the warmth of his breath on her neck. She gasped and tried to move away, but then realized, she didn’t want to. She sighed and looked at the hand she had clutched to her. She laced her fingers with his and smiled. Maybe she’d give him a chance, what could it hurt?
*
Kagome had drifted back to sleep and when she woke up Inuyasha was gone. She sighed and went out to the kitchen. Inuyasha was sitting with his Dad, talking about something very important, by the looks of their stern faces. Kagome walked into the living room, leaving Tai and Yash to their conversation. Kagome sat down next to Sesshomaru and Rin on the couch.
“Hey.” She said.
“Hey.” They replied.
“So, what’s the pow-wow in the kitchen about?”
“Inuyasha’s been a bad pup.” Sesshomaru said, a hint of sadness in his voice. Not the usual tone he would use when his brother was getting yelled at.
“How are you feeling today?” Rin asked delicately.
“Never better.” Kagome said truthfully.
“Really?” Rin asked. “Are you sure?”
“Uh . . . Yeah.” Kagome said back. “If this is about last night, nothing happened. I don’t know how Inuyasha got to be sleeping in my bed, but we didn’t do anything.” Kagome said, looking at the kitchen. “Maybe I should go help out.”
“I wouldn’t advise-” but Rin had knocked Sesshomaru in the stomach with her elbow, and whatever he was going to say was cut off.
Kagome stood and headed for the kitchen.
“Why did you do that?” Sesshomaru asked Rin.
“Because, this might be better.” Rin said.
“If she finds out, she could die.”
“I know.” Rin said quickly. “It’ll be fine. Trust me.”
Kagome went into the kitchen, determined to get Inuyasha out of whatever trouble he’d gotten himself into; but, when she walked in the room all conversation stopped and everyone smiled at her.
“Good morning.” They said in unison.
“So, what’s up?” She asked.
“Nothing. Breakfast?” Nahori asked.
“Uh, no thanks.” Kagome said, still wondering why everyone was acting so weird.
“Actually, it’s just embarrassing.” Inuyasha said. “See, I was telling mom and dad about a nightmare I had. It was stupid and I didn’t want you and the others to know.” He said sheepishly. It wasn’t even a lie either. He had told his parents about the dream.
“Oh. Well that’s nothing to be ashamed about.” Kagome said, sitting at the table. Inuyasha sat across from her. “I actually had a bad dream myself last night.” She admitted. “It’s hard to remember now. I think it had something to do with winter though. I just remember being so cold. So freezing cold. And it was dark. Like underground dark. It was terrifying. But I woke up and” she stopped. She didn’t want to say that she felt better because when she woke up Inuyasha was beside her. That sounded silly. “I hardly remembered it anyway.”
“I remember mine clear as day.” Inuyasha said, a small shudder running down his spine. “I hate dreaming like that.”
Kagome nodded, lost in her own thoughts. Why had waking up with Inuyasha been so comforting to her? Was she falling for him? True, she had always thought she liked him . . . but after he was such a jerk, could she really be in love with him?
**
Inuyasha stayed very close to Kagome, all day. Even closer than usual. He barely let her out of his sight, and if he did she was back in it within a few minutes. She was just starting to get annoyed when she felt short of breath. She had only walked up the stairs, on her way to Inuyasha’s room (he wanted to play video games), but it felt like she had run a marathon. She bent over at the top of the stairs, trying to breathe as deeply as she could.
“Kagome?” Inuyasha asked.
“I’m fine.” She lied.
“Gods no.” he whispered.
“I said I’m fine Yash.” She was panting now, desperately trying to fight for breath and figure out why she was in this position.
“Kagome, please, tell me how you feel about me.” Inuyasha demanded. There was no more time.
“Inuyasha, this isn’t the time for your petty ego-”
“Kagome, please.” He sounded so desperate.
Kagome sighed and started walking to his room. With each step she took her breathing became more labored. She sat on his bed and he sat right next to her. His arm over her shoulder, looking at her as though she were a fragile object that would break if it were touched.
“Well,” she began, not really seeing the point of telling him how she felt. “I guess you’re not so bad.” She said. She wanted to say that she liked him, maybe even loved him, but she didn’t know if she could.
He wasn’t sure if it was a smart idea, but he had to try. He took in a shaky breath and begged for a little luck. “Kagome, please, if you feel anything for me . . . please tell me.” He sighed when she said nothing. “Because I love you.” He really shouldn’t have said that. He knew that she got defensive when those words came up. He waited for something horrible, but all he heard was a small sniffling sound.
“Don’t cry Kagome.” He said. “Please. I’m so sorry.” She was holding her neck and sobbing. “This is literally all my fault and I’m so sorry.” He held her close, kissing the spot on her neck that hurt her so much. “Please Kagome.” He didn’t know what he was begging for. Her to live, or to say that she loved him.
“Inuyasha.” She said between sobs. “I think I’m dying.” She started to rock slightly and almost fell backward.
“Kagome!” Inuyasha panicked. Damn her and her stubborn pride! Damn him for being an idiot!
“I know it now. You seem so panicked.” She was resting her head against his chest now. She could hear his heart racing. “Before I die Inuyasha, I should tell you,” she tried to say the words, but her voice wasn’t working properly. She looked up from Inuyasha’s chest, looking into his eyes. She gathered up the rest of her dying strength and said “That I love you too.” The words were whispered and barely there, but she said them.
A pink light filled the room. It seemed to come from Kagome herself. Inuyasha fought to hold on to her. The light reminded him a purification spell, he dreaded to think of what would happen if he was purified. The pink light entwined the two and lifted them off the bed. Kagome’s head rolled to the side, dead weight. Inuyasha cradled her in his arms hoping that this was a good sign. As suddenly as the light had appeared, it started fading. Inuyasha felt his feet hit the ground, and waited to see what would happen. Kagome stayed limp in his arms. He fought the tears. Was she too late? Was he too late?
“Kagome?” he whispered. “Kagome?” he repeated, more desperately this time.
“Inuyasha?” Sesshomaru asked, rushing into the room. “What’s happened?”
“I’m not sure.” He answered. Then he used his senses. Trying to smell the bitter scent of death. But it wasn’t there.
“I don’t sense death.” Sesshomaru declared, adding to Inuyasha’s relief.
“Me either.” Inuyasha said.
“Did she say it?” Sesshomaru asked.
“Yes. So did I. Then there was a pink light.” Inuyasha explained.
“Wonderful.” Sesshomaru sighed happily as he leaned against the door.
Inuyasha looked down at Kagome, wondering how Sesshomaru could be so cavalier about the whole thing. Then he saw it. Kagome’s chest rose gently and fell gracefully as she took in breath. Her eyes fluttered and stayed closed. She was asleep.
Inuyasha laid her down on the bed, covering her with the comforter. “I’ve never been so scared Sesshomaru.” Inuyasha admitted. “I thought she had died.”
“Me too.” Sesshomaru said honestly.
“What happens now?” Inuyasha asked, trying to sound cool about it.
“Life Inuyasha.”
“Life?” He repeated.
“Yes.”
“Sleep well Kagome.” Inuyasha kissed her forehead before standing to leave the room.
“Inuyasha.” She whispered. “Stay.”
Inuyasha smiled and went back to the bed, holding her hand in his and kissing it. “Sure.”
Sesshomaru left them in peace.

Zonza : Thanks for reading and reviewing! I hope that you liked how it went and that you weren’t upset. I appreciate you putting up with my scattered delays in updating and my scatter brain plot! Thanks for reading!
KagomeStanton : Thanks for reading and reviewing! I’m glad you liked it!
RedHerring : Thank you so much for your honest opinion! It means so much to me as a writer. I’m happy you told me exactly what you felt and in a nice and critical way. Not as in a flame. Thank you for reviewing and I’m sorry you couldn’t read any more. Thanks anyway!
Sesshyluvr : sorry to disappoint you with the pairing. But now you get Sesshy all to yourself! ^_^ I hope you continued the story and liked it anyway! Thanks for reading and reviewing!
Shinobi-chan : I’m sorry to disappoint you as well. I hope you continued to read and stomached the pairing! Thanks for your support and for taking the time to read and review!
WOW! It takes so long to do that! Haha, if I left you out it was a pure accident and I’m so sorry and you’ll get a whole page to yourself! Just let me know that I forgot you! Haha! Thanks a bunch guys for reading, even if you didn’t review, and thanks for sticking with me! I hope you liked the ending as much as I did.
You guys make writing worth it!
