Son of lies,

Chapter 1
Dawn of my journey

I don't know what it is about me that's so odd. I'm supposedly a Hanyou but I don't change once a month like many others, I've been told that since my human father is an incredibly spiritual priest, it overrode that curse of a half-breed. His name was Anjou; he died when I was too young to know him. My mother, An'ya, is one of the last Inu-youkai females in this land. She's a beautiful creature, my mother, long silvery-blue hair and grassy green eyes, a voice that rang goddess. Even as a pup I was in total awe of her beauty. But unlike her, I am tainted, thus my name…

Inukuro… the black dog.

As I woke I was met with the half night half morn sky. A heavenly mix of dark blues, bright fiery oranges, and the deep purple color of cherry trees dotted the horizon, greeting me like it always did. I preferred to stay out at night, even though me and my mother owned a palace overlooking a small village. Almost never have I entered that building. If I must, I take refuge down in one of the huts of the humans. I like humans, interesting creatures, so many of them are week in so many ways, yet it's their soul purpose in life to conquer. Strong and week at the same time… how they manage, I'll never know.

Mother's sweet voice reached my keen ears as the sun peaked over the mountains. Morning was her favorite time to speak to me. She says it makes my eyes more gold. A feature she seemed to love a lot, I never could understand why. It's as if she was remembering someone, like father. But Anjou's eyes were blue, apparently.

“What is it, mother?” I asked, though knowing her reasoning. She was standing just outside the main doors.

“I just wanted to see you after the night. Your eyes.” She ended, looking at me reminiscently

“You always do.” I said with a sigh. “Is that all?” I asked curiously. She nodded her head smiling.

“You're so like him…” she mumbled. I arched a brow at the odd comment.

“Like who? Anjou?”

She shook her head “never mind.”

I turned away still looking quizzical but pushed it all aside. I was going to keep my cool today; I didn't need to worry about something trivial.

I neared the village confidently, unlike most humans, the people here trusted me and my mother even though we were Inu-youkai… well I'm half, but it doesn't matter.

A small group of children were playing just outside the village. One caught sight of me.

“Inukuro!” they squealed. “Can we pet your fluffy thing?” one of them asked. We dog demons all have this thing called a mokomoko-sama. Usually they're white; An'ya's too is a snowy white, nicely kept and clean. But mine is black, tainted.

“Sure.” I said. “Tsuki, do you know where your sister is?” I asked one of the little girls as the rest brushed their tiny hands through the mokomoko.

“Sakura?” she shrugged. “Last I saw her she was in the fields.”

The child pointed past the huts to a golden field with grasses so high they came up to my shoulders. Sakura was just under that so finding her would give me an excuse to use one of my favorite senses.

Her sent was like wildflowers that encompassed this area, but with a faint tint of a very unique woody smell mingled with it, it made her hard to find. Oh well, more fun I always say.

Sakura was my childhood friend, and as the years went on, strange feelings for her rose inside me. Today...I'm going to ask her what they are, mother says its love. Whatever that is…

Going through the grass I sniffed for her, standing on my paws as high as they would allow.

Nothing. But then…

The smell of blood surrounded my senses, and the smell of Tora Youkai made itself clear as one jumped down in front of me looking vicious.

I flashed my fangs and claws at the cat tiger, but knowing that I was much smaller then he, I made to turn and run…

“Inukuro!” Sakura yelled. In horror I saw her running towards us to stand in between me and the demon. Before I could stop him his claws… Sakura… there was nothing I could do…

I had to get a grip, she's dead, she's gone now, it was too fast and there wasn't anything I could have done to stop it… I ran.

What I needed to do was find mother; she would know how to fend off the Tora. So I made my way towards the palace, from here I could see that it was being taken over, then the sickening smell of blood deepened. I suddenly felt fearful for An'ya. My fears were realized when I saw her fighting several tora Youkai at once with a green energy whip. She was badly injured, clawed up and down, red blood stained her soft blue kimono

“Mother!” I yelled as I jumped and sliced one clean with my claws. The diversion allowed mother to get away just in time.

“Are you alright?” she asked me, I looked at her dumbfounded.

“Me? What about you?” I asked shakily.

“Flesh wounds” She responded casually.

But then one of the basterd came behind her, grabbing her around the waist. Her breath was taken from her in beneath the twisted, striped fingers.

“Find Sesshoumaru” rang her last words.

Her request didn't register at first as I dug my claws into the beast's throat. Attacking all those around me, I was in rage. I'd kill all of them now! Their blood will stain the ground that I have walked on all my life…

I'll kill them all…

~

The darkness of night and flicker of candles surprised me. The last I remember was taking out all my fury on the damn tiger demons. I jumped up to see that I was in one of the remaining huts of the village.

“Down boy,” an old voice coughed. I disobeyed him. It was old Nija.

“Where's mother” I insisted automatically, he responded with silence.

“Where!” I demanded.

“Dead” The old man whispered. I growled in irritation.

“I know that! You don't think I do?! I saw… I saw them take her from me! Don't tell m…”

“Inukuro! Calm yourself, it won't make things better.” He attempted. “Those of the tora that you managed not to slaughter took her… what they did after I know not.”

I growled out in frustration, and then something registered in my mind.

“Who's Sesshoumaru?” I asked turning to Nija, he looked puzzled. “M-mother told me to find him… it was the last thing she said.”

“You'll need to find that yourself.” Nija said quietly “but I know he's in the western lands.”

“The western lands? But I've never been away from home; I haven't even set foot out side this village!”
“It was your mothers last wish will you disobey her?” Nija said. I looked at him, pained, before lowering my head.

“No” I answered quietly.

~

So it was to be. I left what was left of my home for the very first time to find this Sesshoumaru in the west. I started this journey as soon as Nija bid me farewell that night. I came a long way since then, I lived in the north so the way wasn't too long. I was already there.

I hadn't heard from or ran into the Tora Youkai since that night, and I'm thankful for it. Baka beasts, they brought out that side of me I'm not found of. But they deserve what they got.

I spoke to soon. Several of the tigers descended upon me before I could smell them out. I fought them off enough to gain footing and run. Every now and then, I turned around and tried to fight them off, each time I was rewarded with a cut to the chest. Simple wounds, but the scent of blood was notorious for attracting other tigers if one of their kin was responsible for the inflicted wound. I needed to get out of here fast before more of the basterds came.

I thought I was getting away till a few more rounded up in front of me. More wounds to the chest. Why the chest anyways? I thought, blood loss was finally getting to me, even demons got week sometime, Hanyou or not.

My vision started to blur as another tiger pinned me to the ground. A flash of red and silver came out of nowhere yelling.

“Wind scar!”

I tried to focus my eyes as lightning cut through the tigers holding me down. Moment's later two human girls grabbed me; I only knew what they were by how they smelt. Then for the second damn time in a fortnight, I passed out.

~

“That's odd, an Inu-Youkai with short black hair and a black mokomoko-sama.” Said a female voice. “Inuyasha have you ever heard of one?”

“Keh, how would I know? The only Inu-youkai I know is that blasted bother of mine”

“Inuyasha, that was rude.” Said another female voice

“It's true though.” Inuyasha mumbled.

Those around me silenced themselves for some time as if thinking. I couldn't process anything in my mind; their lack of words was comforting. They probably thought I was still out, let them think it.

“Blue strips on the cheek, and a Red Crescent moon on his forehead… its odd, I can't get over how much he looks and smells like Sesshoumaru.”

That name… `Find Sesshoumaru' I remember now, that's what I came here for… I sat up quickly, too quickly, my head started spinning and my vision blurred again.

“Whoa, back down pup!” Inuyasha said pushing me back to the floor. I coughed up some blood and rolled over on my side. I won't be sitting up again.

“We'll it seems your awake now.” A young male human told me. I tried to mumble `I know that' but no sound left me.

My vision returned slowly to me and I took in the details of those around me. The one who I assumed was Inuyasha was wearing a red kimono, he had long silver hair and white dog ears that were pointed directly towards me. One of the females was wearing a pink kimono, and holding a fire cat in its smaller form. The other was wearing some odd green and white clothing… she must be foreign or something. There was a young Kitsun sitting on the last one to talk to me, he was a priest wearing purple robes.

“Who are you people?” I asked putting my hand on my head.

“We would like to know the same thing.” Inuyasha mumbled. I thought about his words, it was if he was trying to get me to say something that he wanted to hear, but I didn't understand.

“Uh… Inukuro.” I growled, the pain in my head was faint but it hurt to talk.

“Inuyasha.” He said. “This is Kagome, Sango, Miroku, and Shipou.” He said pointing to the others as their names were said. I remained silence long enough for the pain to subside.

“You know Sesshoumaru?” I asked

“Do you?” asked Miroku

“No” I said as the memory of my mother's last whim racing through my mind. “But I'm looking for him.”

“Why would you want to look for that basterd anyways?” Inuyasha suddenly burst out angrily.

“That's my business.” I growled. I refused to tell them the truth. I don't know why but I couldn't. “What's your problem?”

“He's my half brother. Hates my guts.” Inuyasha snarled.

“Like I care. The fact is you know him. Do you know where I could find him?” I said sitting up slowly this time.

“Not really, but if you hang around with us we might run into him.” Kagome suggested.

I thought of her offer, at least I wouldn't be alone. And I might enjoy the human company. Seeing as the only demon I grew up with was mother.

I nodded.

~

“How old are you, pup?” Inuyasha asked late that next morning. I was away on my own near a small grove of trees till he came up to me.

“I'm not a pup,” I snapped, glancing at him with a sideways glare. “I'm 16.”

“Keh… pup.” Inuyasha snorted. I rolled my eyes.

“You're Hanyou aren't you?” I asked after a moment's silence. Inuyasha ears twitched at the words but he chose not to answer.

“So am I… sorta.”

“Sorta?” Inuyasha echoed with a silver brow arched.

“I don't change once a month.” I explained, he didn't look like he believed me. “My father was this extremely powerful priest. His power suppressed that part of me.”

“I've never heard of that before.” Inuyasha said slowly.

“It's just what I've been told. Father died before I knew him.”

Inuyasha replied with a grunt. “Are you hungry?” He added afterwards.

“Um…” I wasn't really but chose not to speak.

“Kagome has this ninja food, it's really good.”

“Ninja food?”

Inuyasha walked toward a small fire where the others sat, and beckoned me to follow. I sat down next to Miroku, Shipou jumped into my lap.

“Hello” I said unsure.

“Hi!” the Kitsun smiled “do you want to play with me?” he asked hopefully holding up a little round object with a long string.

“I don't know what it is.” I told him

“It's a yo-yo. Kagome gave it to me. watch.” He said excitedly. Tying the string loosely to his finger he jumped down off my lap and started waving his hand up and down. The red toy followed his movement, climbing up and down the rope, spinning.

“That's interesting, may I try?” I asked holding out my hand. Shipou untied the string and placed it in my palm. I attempted to copy him, but my attempts were unsuccessful. This was harder then it looked.

“You'll learn.” Kagome said handing me a strange looking cup with salty smelling hot water and noodles within. I looked at it wearily, then at Inuyasha. He was wolfing it down as if it were the last food on earth, a content smile on his face.

I took my chances and tasted it. A hot flavorful mix of spices, meat, and noodles rested on my tongue. I liked it.

I was allowed another helping when I asked for it, soon after Shipou continued to teach me the ways of the yo-yo.

That didn't end well.

It still wouldn't do what I wanted and I threw it back to Shipou, now bored with the toy.

“Hey, how long do you think it'll be till we run into Sesshoumaru?” I asked.

“Who knows, tomorrow, next month… a year? When ever he feels like trying to take my Tetseiga.” Inuyasha complained grabbing the hilt of the sword tied to his waist. “He never will though, baka.”

“Tell me, why is it that your so keen to find him?” Sango asked.

“I already told you…th-that's my business…” I said looking away. I got up and walked away from them. The thought of my mother now dead made me want to rip something apart. I left to take my rage out on a few trees, hoping that no one would find me.

~

The tree fell as splinters and leaves swam around me in the airflow like the others that I slew. I felt better afterwards, but the feeling soon swept over me that after I find the Sesshoumaru mother wanted me to find, I would find and kill the entire Tora Youkai clan like they did my home, like I did these trees.

*first chapter done… I haven't done a fic in first person before, I think I'm better at it then being a narrator. But I'll let you, my readers tell me (if you've read my other stuff, I have two other fics out.) but I hope you like what I've done so far, and remember this was a dream I had. I didn't make all of it up so please be nice in your review comments.*
