Chapter 1: Take My Breath Away - Kagome
by: I. C. All
inspired by: Keeper of the Crystal

A/N: Konnichiwa, minna-san! I'm baaack! And so am I! *mutters under her breath* Unfortunately ... *glares at IC* What was that? *sweatdrops* Er, um, nothing ... ^_^' *shoots a suspicious glare at IC* Well, anyway, I'm actually back! And what a long break I've had! IC's been doing nothing but gloat about all her reviews, so I decided to come and check it out, to see if what she's saying really is true ...
What?! Of course it's true! I'm not a liar! *raises an eyebrow* Reeeallly ...? *sweatdrops again, and wails* It was a white lie! She would've killed me if I hadn't lied! Honest! *backs away nervously as IC continues ranting about her innocence*
O-kay ... Since IC's on the verge of insanity (if she hasn't already gone over yet ...), I guess I'll have to introduce this fic. It's actually a songfic - a new miniseries, in which the characters express their thoughts about a special someone through a song.
Okay, so we all know she hasn't finished the one she's working on yet, but IC has been voted the best procrastinator in the class, so ... Yeah. ^_^'
Anyway, enjoy, and don't forget to review! ^_~ *resumes sweatdropping as IC still raves continuously*

Disclaimer: Argh! Back, you fiends! *pokes army of lawyers with a spork* Okay! I don't own Inuyasha! Now leave me and my computer alone! *lawyers don't listen, and continue to push 'important' papers under her nose* Neither do I own Emma Bunton's 'Take My Breath Away'! Now, shoo! *slumps back in relief as lawyers march proudly out the door* Jeez, those guys really need to loosen up sometime ...

Dedicated to: My wonderful friends, who have helped me through good times, bad times, and homework. Love ya guys! ^_^

Special Thanks to: Trillian - Oops! Gomen ne, I forgot about that one ... 'Oyasumi nasai' means 'good night' or 'sweet dreams', which was a fitting end to the story. I hope. ^_^' And thank you for the comments! ^_^
Aile Anna - Thankies so much for beta-readers like you! ^_^
Mara Kraus - Thanks! And believe it or not, I freaked out KC when I told her that as well. *grins evilly* She got really mad afterwards and became all moody and stuff, but it was worth it ... ^_~

Note: I changed two or three lines in the song, so that it'd fit Kagome more. ^_^' Hope you guys don't mind ...

If I told you, how I feel about you
Would you say the same?

Kagome looks over at Inuyasha, who is staring off into the sunrise, musing about something and looking uncharacteristically serious. She smiles softly, and seems to contemplate telling him something. Suddenly, he turns to look at her and she blushes deeply, looking away and inwardly cursing her lack of courage.

And if I wrote it in a letter
Would you keep it, or throw it away?

Kagome sits at her desk in the safety of her bedroom, writing something on a flowery piece of stationery. A quick peek at the top of the letter quickly indicates that it is indeed addressed to a certain hanyou. Looking it over, she frowns, and crumples the stationery into a ball, throwing it into her trashcan, which is filled up with numerous other crumpled up balls of paper.

I never thought I'd feel the way I'm feeling lately
When everything you seem to do
Just drives me crazy

"Come on, Inuyasha!" Sango calls, strapping on her Hiraikotsu and climbing on Kirara. Miroku eagerly clambers on after her, but seems to lose some of his enthusiasm when Sango narrows her eyes at him and gestures to her Hiraikotsu. "Yeah, Inuyasha! I thought you wanted to get that shard!" Shippou calls joyfully from his perch on Kirara's head.

Inuyasha growls. "Hurry up, Kagome!" he calls to the raven-haired girl. "All right!" she answers, staggering under the weight of her yellow backpack. Inuyasha glances briefly at her. "Keh!" he snorts, and moves over to her. The hanyou snatches the bag from her shoulders, lifting it as if it was merely nothing, and turns around.

"Climb on," he murmurs. Kagome blushes furiously, and clambers onto the hanyou's back. She grips his haori tightly and buries her face in his long, silver hair as he starts to leap, trying to hide her red face.

Every waking day, you take my breath away
With every word you say, you take my breath away

Kagome rolls over in her sleeping bag, a hand shielding her face from the annoying rays of sunshine that were trying to get her to get up.

She moans and finally gives in, opening her eyes blearily to blink the remaining sleep out of her eyes. She soon finds herself looking up at a familiar face. Kagome holds back a gasp as she realizes who it is.

Inuyasha looks at the girl strangely. "Oi, Sango told me to wake you up and tell you that breakfast is ready," he states simply. Kagome can't seem to think of an intelligent answer at the moment and merely nods fervently. Inuyasha gives the girl one last curious look before leaping away.

"Girls."

You look at me that way, baby come what may
I hope that you'll always know
How to take my breath away
How to take my breath away

"Itai!" Kagome hisses as she trips over a stray pebble. Inuyasha stops to frown at the girl as she sits by the 'road', clutching her ankle and moaning in agony. "Baka," he comments, but moves over to her.

Kagome bites her lip in pain, trying to hold back at the distressed wail that was threatening to force its way out of her. 'Mou ... I'm such an idiot! I think I sprained my ankle ...' she thinks to herself, gently prodding at her injured ankle and hissing sharply at the pain it brought.

Suddenly, Inuyasha kneels by her side and gently pulls her ankle up so that it rested on his knee, and carefully examined it. "You all right, Kagome?" he asks softly, giving her an extremely rare look of tenderness ...

Kagome's face flushes a bright red. "Y-Yes!" she blurts out. Inuyasha frowns, and examines her ankle again. "Oi, Shippou! Get that white box thing that Kagome always lugs around!" he calls to the kitsune cub, who quickly rushes to do his bidding. The girl remains frozen in that spot as Inuyasha carefully tends to her injury.

I wish I could say how I feel about you
So that you would know
I would fill your heart with all my loving
Till it overflowed

"Tell him ... Tell him not ... Tell him ... Tell him not ..."

Kagome murmurs to herself as she daintily pulls the petals off a wildflower. "Tell him, tell him not ..." she says to herself, pulling off two more. She gapes at the last remaining petal. "Tell him?" she says faintly, pulling off the last petal. The girl goes slightly pale.

"Kagome! We have to go now!" Shippou calls from a distance. "Okay!" Kagome calls back, and pulls herself up, hurriedly brushing off the petals that fell on her skirt before dashing off after them, leaving behind the petal-less flower.

I don't know the way you feel
But boy, I'm hoping
I always used to hide away
But now I'm open

"Inuyasha!"

The said hanyou turns around to see a raven-haired girl rushing towards him, her face flushed pink with excitement. "Keh! Took you long enough," he snorts, but with a slightly tender look in his eyes.

Kagome takes no notice of his reply, but instead hands him a box. "Look inside!" she grins brightly at him. Inuyasha's brows furrow, but he opens the box anyway, missing the small card that falls unnoticed to the ground.

"Hey! It's that thing that your mom always cooks!" he exclaims, a wide grin spreading across his face as he stuffs the delicious food down his throat. "Tell your mom that she cooks great food!" he calls as he strolls away happily, probably to finish the food off as quickly as he can.

Kagome is left standing there, looking slightly disappointed. "But I cooked that ..." she murmurs somewhat sadly, picking up the card and staring at it ruefully. Her eyes sadly travel over the carefully written words, 'Hope you like this, Inuyasha. I made it especially for you. Love, Kagome.'

Every waking day, you take my breath away
With every word you say, you take my breath away
You look at me that way, baby come what may
I hope that you'll always know
How to take my breath away
How to take my breath away

Kagome yawns, and forces herself to get up. The sun is just barely peeking over the tops of the trees, which meant that Inuyasha would probably be getting up any moment.

Kagome looks around for her hanyou companion, and her eyes grow soft as they stop on a familiar figure up in the high branches of a tree. She smiles gently as she watches the sunshine fall on his sleeping face, making him look almost innocent.

Her viewing is interrupted by the aforementioned dog demon stretching, which was a sure sign that he was getting up. Flushing a bright red, Kagome busies herself with rousing Shippou and the others, trying not to make eye contact with Inuyasha.

Take my breath away
Take my breath away
Take my breath away

Every waking day, you take my breath away
With every word you say, you take my breath away
You look at me that way, baby come what may
I hope that you'll always know
How to take my breath away
How to take my breath away

"Inuyasha?"

Kagome searches for the hanyou. He had left the campsite just as she had started to cook breakfast, and she was now looking for him, as breakfast was now ready.

Peering behind some bushes, she finally spots the dog demon sitting atop a cliff. "Ne, Inuyasha, breakfast is ready!" she smiles brightly, walking towards the hanyou. The girl abruptly stops in her tracks as Inuyasha turns to look at her. He studies her for a moment, and calls her over to sit next to him. Kagome is too stunned to do anything else, so she ends up sitting next to him.

"Ano, Inuyasha ..." she says uncomfortably. Inuyasha looks down at her. "Shh, wench. Just shut up for a moment and look at the sunrise, okay?" he tells her, but without any of his usual bite. Kagome goes quiet, and does as he says.

How to take my breath away
How to take my breath away

Kagome has to hold back a gasp as she realizes how beautiful the sunrise really is.

"Wow, it's so much nicer than sunrises back in my time," she breathes, marveling at the way the sun's rays cover the dense forest below them. "Keh! Of course they are! Your time has too much of that stupid stuff in the air, and too much of those big buildings for the sunrise to look nice anymore!" Inuyasha abruptly snorts.

Kagome giggles, and turns back to the sunrise.

Take my breath away
Take my breath away
Take my breath away

After a few more minutes of sitting in a comfortable silence, Inuyasha stands up. "Come on, wench. Time to get back before the others think that you've been eaten up by a youkai," he says, reaching out a hand to Kagome.

Kagome looks down at his offered hand and then back up at him. She smiles brightly and accepts his clawed hand. Inuyasha inwardly marvels how small and delicate her hand is compared to his bigger, and more callused one.

Kagome just continues smiling, and gently squeezes his hand. Inuyasha squeezes back, and they walk hand in hand back to the camp, only releasing their gentle grip on each other just before they enter the campsite to avoid the houshi's endless teasing and the unavoidable questions that would come their way.

A/N: So what did you guys think? ^_^ Personally, I think it was a bit too sappy ... This coming from girl who wrote 'The Demon Inside'? Hey, you were the one who added all the sappy bits! Well, can you really blame me? Inu-kun and Kag-chan make such a cute couple! Well, I guess you're right about that one ... Aren't I always? *mutters* In your dreams ...
*doesn't notice the comment* Anyhow, please review and share your thoughts with us! Arigato, and ja ne!
