You're my peace of mind in this crazy world
You're everything I've tried to find
Your love is a pearl
Miroku sighed to himself, rubbing the lump on his head in irritation. He didn't mean to bump into that woman, really! Especially not that particular woman's bosom ...
Miroku winced gingerly as he touched the bump that had formed on his head. It was an accident! Why wouldn't anyone believe him? The houshi perked up when he heard footsteps padding up from behind him. "Houshi-sama?" a soft voice called out.
The monk turned around and sighed in relief to see none other than Sango coming towards him, carrying two cups of tea. "Ah, Sango-sama, what are you doing here?" he asked, eagerly accepting the tea that she had offered him. "I saw what happened," she said dryly, sipping from her own cup.
Miroku laughed nervously. Sango merely sighed and pulled something out from her pocket. Miroku's eyes widened slightly as he recognized the strange can that she held in her hand. It was that strange contraption from Kagome's time that sprayed stinging liquid on any wounds that you might have.
Sango grinned inwardly as she saw Miroku flinch visibly. "Come on, it won't hurt ... much," she smiled temptingly, holding up the can. "Do I get a kiss for being a good boy?" Miroku asked hopefully. Sango smacked him lightly and sprayed the liquid relentlessly on his bump.
"Itai!"
You're my Mona Lisa; you're my rainbow sky
And my only prayer is that you'll realize
You'll always be beautiful in my eyes
Miroku wiped the sweat off his brow as he finished lugging in the firewood from the forest. Now, all he had to do was wait for the others to come back.
They probably wouldn't be long - Kagome and Shippou had only gone to collect some water from the nearby river. Naturally, Inuyasha had to be overprotective and tagged along to make sure Kagome wouldn't hurt herself, and Kirara had just followed them for reasons of her own.
Flopping down on a log, he turned his gaze to the only remaining member in the camp. His breath momentarily caught in his lungs as he observed the exotic beauty of Sango.
The taijiya had her gaze turned to the sunset, the fading rays of the sun illuminating her tanned skin. Her cinnamon brown eyes shone with the sinking of the sun. Every feature of her face was accented by the sunlight, making her look like an ethereal being. Her soft, pink lips were slightly parted as she watched the sun go down.
Suddenly, the youkai exterminator noticed the houshi watching her intently and frowned slightly. The monk snapped out of his trance and laughed nervously, trying to prove his innocence. Sango watched him warily before turning back to the sunset. Miroku sighed in relief.
The world will turn and the seasons will change
And all the lessons we will learn
Will be beautiful and strange
"Kagome, Kagome, look at this!"
The raven-haired girl from the future smiled as the hyperactive kitsune shoved a bouquet of flowers in her face. Spring had just sprung and flowers were popping up everywhere. Shippou had been absolutely delighted and amazed by the changing of the seasons and made it his duty to inform everyone.
Happy to see that Kagome had appreciated his efforts, Shippou leapt from her shoulder and onto Inuyasha's. "Look, Inuyasha! Aren't they pretty?" the kitsune grinned. Inuyasha merely snorted. Shippou frowned and leapt to Sango's shoulder instead.
"Sango thinks they are, ne, Sango?" he asked. "Hai, hai," Sango smiled, her eyes twinkling with laughter. Miroku sneaked a glance at her and inwardly gaped. The taijiya never ceased to amaze him.
He almost fell over in surprise when Shippou's big blue eyes appeared in front of his face. "What about you, Miroku? Do you think the flowers are nice?" the kitsune cub asked, waving the flowers at the houshi. Miroku tried to respond, but only ended up sneezing loudly.
Shippou squeaked in surprise as he toppled off Miroku's shoulder. The houshi merely sneezed again. "I think Houshi-sama's allergic to the flowers," Sango remarked, an amused grin spreading over her face. Inuyasha gave an uncharacteristic bark of laughter. Miroku attempted to glare at him but only resulted in sneezing again.
Inuyasha laughed even harder. "Oh, dear," Sango grinned, suppressing her own laughter. Even Shippou and Kirara were laughing at him. "Hold on. I think I may have some medicine for your allergies," Kagome said helpfully, digging through her bag for her first-aid kit and smothering the giggle that had bubbled out of her.
Sango shook her head, still holding back her laughter, and helped Miroku to sit up. The poor, allergic houshi couldn't even take advantage of the situation properly and sneezed violently, emitting more laughter out of the group.
We'll have our fill of tears, our share of sighs
My only prayer is that you'll realize
You'll always be beautiful in my eyes
Sango swallowed, trying to get rid of the lump in her throat as she watched Naraku leave once again with Kohaku. The group had another encounter with the hanyou and he had used one of his trump cards - Sango's younger brother. Of course, Sango couldn't bring herself to kill the remaining member of her clan, therefore letting Naraku have the victory.
The taijiya fell to her knees and watched them leave despairingly. Rare tears started to form at the corner of her eyes, and the youkai exterminator started to sob hopelessly.
Miroku moved solemnly towards her and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. Sango began crying even harder and turned to the houshi for comfort. Miroku looked quite surprised, but set his staff down and wrapped his arms tightly around the shaking Sango and whispered words of comfort in her ear, rocking her back and forth like a little child.
Kagome watched the scene with a sad smile on her face and gently tapped Inuyasha on the shoulder. She cocked her head in the direction of their camp, indicating that they should leave the two alone for a moment. Inuyasha nodded solemnly and picked Shippou up by the scruff of his neck while Kagome scooped Kirara into her arms.
The four quietly moved away from the houshi and the taijiya, giving the two their privacy.
You will always be - beautiful in my eyes
And the passing years will show
That you will always grow
Ever more beautiful in my eyes
A few moments later, Sango hiccupped and sat up, considerably calmed down.
"I apologize, Houshi-sama ... I got your robes all wet," she said apologetically, though her voice sounded a bit strange from all her crying. Miroku shook his head. "It's all right, Sango-sama. It helped you to calm down, ne? It was worth it," he assured her. Sango smiled at him sadly.
"I must look horrible," Sango said aloud, chuckling miserably as she wiped some more tears from her eyes. Miroku shook his head again and tilted her head up with one hand as he gathered some of his robes in the other. Gently, he took the cloth and carefully used it to wipe the remaining tears on her flushed cheeks.
Sango could only watch him in awe and embarrassment as he finished and smiled at her. "No, Sango-sama. You look beautiful - you always do. Do not attempt to degrade yourself by saying that," he told her softly. Sango's lip trembled as she shook her head in disagreement.
"You're wrong, Houshi-sama. I've seen many women during our travels and it is as plain as day that I am not as attractive as they are," she told him, a lump forming in her throat as more tears slipped from her puffy eyes. Miroku sighed and took her chin gently in his hand, forcing her to make eye contact with him.
"Sango-sama, that is not true. I know that you are just as beautiful - no, even more beautiful than all of those women put together," he said in a tone that seemed to end the discussion. Sango breathed deeply, closing and then opening her eyes, smiling gratefully at Miroku.
"Arigato, Houshi-sama."
There are lines upon my face
From a lifetime of smiles
When the time comes to embrace
For one long last while
"Houshi-sama! Where are you?"
Sango called out as she searched for their companion. She finally spotted him sitting calmly on a riverbank, meditating quietly. The taijiya carefully moved towards him and sat down next to him, watching as he meditated. Miroku had already sensed her since she saw him and had merely waited for her to sit down next to him before opening his indigo eyes to look back at her.
"What is it, Sango-sama?" he asked. Sango grinned and shook her head. "Inuyasha just wants to get moving again. I left him and Kagome-chan when they started to argue," she smiled. Miroku sighed and shook his head in exasperation.
"He still doesn't want to admit it, does he?" he asked, a smile playing on his lips. Sango sighed and shook her head. "He's too full of pride to admit it. I think Kagome-chan already has, but Inuyasha doesn't seem to be showing any signs of acknowledging the fact that he loves her anytime soon," she said.
"Well, I'll certainly be awaiting the day that he does," Miroku grinned. Sango's face lit up. "I will too, but for some reason, I just can't imagine him kneeling in front of Kagome-chan, presenting her with a bouquet of flowers and declaring his undying love for her," she chuckled.
"That will be the day!" Miroku agreed and the two laughed at the thoughts of an amorous Inuyasha.
We can laugh about how time really flies
We won't say goodbye 'cause true love never dies
You'll always be beautiful in my eyes
"Houshi-sama, do you think that after our travels are over, Inuyasha and Kagome-chan will get together?"
Miroku pondered his answer. "Most likely, yes, but only if he puts Kikyo-sama to rest. Otherwise ..." he trailed off. Sango shook her head fiercely. "No! I won't allow that to happen! It is obvious that that shell is not the real Kikyo! Inuyasha should know that by now ... And if he doesn't, I'll knock the truth into his little hanyou brain!" she said determinedly.
Miroku sweatdropped at Sango's decision. "But Sango-sama, you know that it is up to Inuyasha to decide who to choose. I don't think beating him up will do anything but give him a concussion," he said, trying to placate the fuming taijiya. Sango sighed in defeat.
"I know, Houshi-sama, but I cannot stand Kagome-chan's heart breaking another time. The poor girl's heart is already fragile enough as it is," she said sadly. Miroku couldn't disagree, as he cared just as deeply for the girl which he felt was the little sister he never had, but he couldn't stand seeing the taijiya depressed. It was just so ... awkward for the normally lively woman to act so ... lifeless. Miroku had to do something.
"But can you imagine what would happen if Kagome-sama and Inuyasha did get together?" he asked, trying to brighten the youkai exterminator. Miroku silently praised himself upon seeing the slight smile on Sango's face. "I wonder what Shippou's reaction would be ..." she mused, the smile spreading across her face.
"The poor child would be horrified to find that his tormentor was going to be his surrogate father," the houshi chuckled at the mental image that this statement brought. "Can you actually imagine Inuyasha as a father?" Sango piped up, completely forgetting her previous state and grinning widely.
This brought a snort from the houshi. The mental image of Inuyasha trying to take care of 3 or 4 Shippou-like children was just too much for the two, and they both burst out laughing.
You will always be - beautiful in my eyes
And the passing years will show
That you will always grow
Ever more beautiful in my eyes
The two's laughter died down and they settled to musing over their own thoughts.
"Houshi-sama?"
"Yes?"
"Ano ... What do you think will happen to us?"
Miroku turned his gaze to the taijiya, who was fiddling nervously with the folds of her yukata, obviously uncomfortable with the current topic. "What do you mean, Sango-sama?" the houshi asked.
"Well, we've talked about what might happen with Inuyasha, Shippou-chan and Kagome-chan when we defeat Naraku, but what about us?" she tried to elaborate, looking down at her lap, not making eye contact with Miroku.
Miroku was silent for a moment. "Well, I'll probably journey back to the temple and continue being a monk there," he said after a while. "What about you, Sango-sama?" he asked.
Sango pondered her answer. "If Kohaku lives ..." she started, her throat becoming dry. "We - We might go back to the village and try to revive our clan. Otherwise, I might go alone ..." she trailed off with a distant look in her eyes.
"I could come with you."
Sango whipped her head to stare disbelievingly at Miroku. "What?" she breathed. Miroku sighed. "Well, I don't think I'll be fit enough to be a monk in a temple anytime soon," he grinned jokingly. "So I could come with you for a while - you know, help you out until your clan is strong enough."
Sango's face relaxed and she smiled. "Arigato, Houshi-sama," she nodded. Miroku just grinned back at her. Sango's eyes suddenly narrowed. "I hope you don't think that I'll let you grope me because you've decided to help me out," she said threateningly, her cinnamon brown eyes flashing with their usual fire.
Miroku put on an innocent face. "I am shocked, Sango-sama, that you would think of me like that!" he said, pretending to be shocked. "Oh, give it up, Houshi-sama," she replied dryly, although a smile played on her lips. Miroku sighed dramatically.
Sango shook her head and just laughed at him. Miroku was shocked for a moment, but laughed as well.
The passing years will show
That you will always grow
Ever more beautiful in my eyes
"Oi, Kagome!"
"Nani?"
"What the hell are we doing?"
Kagome looked up from her camera and frowned at an obviously bored Inuyasha and an equally bored Shippou. "Getting revenge," she said matter-of-factly and resumed taking pictures of the couple. Inuyasha and Shippou looked at each other, shrugged and sighed.
"Women ..."
A/N: Okey-dokey! I've finally finished my first M/S songfic! How'd I do? ^.^ Review and tell me how I did, okay? This is IC, signing off! Ja ne, minna-san!

Quote of the Day:
Toutousai: Oh, it's getting over roasted, why don't we start eating?
(Toutousai abruptly eats the whole thing by himself.)
Inuyasha: Hey, don't eat it all by yourself!
Toutousai: Hey! Where is my meat?
Kagome: You just ate it all right now!
Toutousai: Huh? Where am I?
(Miroku calmly hits him in the head with his staff.)
