This is turning into a huge chapter . . . So, I'm going to alter my posting schedule. I'm going to post 2,000/3,000 word sub-chapters when I finish them, instead of posting a huge chapter next Sunday. (Oddly enough, while I've succeeded in most of the goals I sent for myself when starting this story, the one goal that I did not keep was limiting my word count per chapter to below 3000. Shakes head, so I'll see if I could do it on this last chapter.)

This is the last sub-chapter...(20,000+ words for the chapter, shakes head. Sigh...)

Please note: some very serious thoughts/conversions in this chapter. Some of the comments and ideas expressed will offend.

After this there is the epilog, and author's notes . . .

Kagome is running through the forest to the God Tree.

"Damned! Fucking! Barrier!" Inu-yasha's yell is heard by Kagome before she can see him.

Kagome runs into the clearing in front of the God Tree. She stops and looks around at the edge of clearing, trying to determine what is happening before she jumps in. Inu-yasha has his sword out and it trying to smash through a barrier that is surrounding the tree.

"I'm going to turn you into kindling!" Inu-yasha yells, then he breathes in deeply. He's obviously gathering his power for another attack.

Kagome breathes in deeply. She's obviously preparing to shout.

But, before either can do anything . . .

A brilliant flash of light blinds Kagome and huge "BBOOMM!" rattles the clearing.

A lightning bolt has just crashed into Inu-yasha's skull.

He sways for a few seconds. His hair is standing on end like a white halo around his head. Smoke is slowly curling from the top of his skull. To stay standing he pulls down his sword and leans on it.

After a short pause, he lifts the sword up and begins his attack again. "I'm still going to . . . "

Kagome glances at the thunderstorm and sees it rolling and agitated as a funnel cloud begins to descend from it.
"Iun-yasha, Sit, boy!" she screams.

THUMP!

Inu-yasha goes face first into the muddy ground

She looks up again and sees the funnel cloud retreat into the thunderstorm.

Kagome runs to Inu-yasha. She kneels down and she gently picks up his head from the ground. There is a bald spot on the top of his head where the hair has been burned off, but she can see new hair beginning to growing in.

"Inu-yasha, are you Ok?" She asks breathlessly.

He opens his eyes and stares at her. "Are you fucking nuts? After a lightning bolt and the word and you ask if I'm Ok?"

She drops his head back down to the ground, "you're just fine, of course, as always." She says in a disappointed voice as she moves away from him. "Why were you attacking the God Tree?"

"Why?!" Inu-yasha screams at her. "That fucking tree! Somehow, I don't know how, but he's fucking responsible for last night!"

"So! Inu-yasha! Listen to me! Sango and I did that of our own free will! Nobody forced us!" Kagome screams back. "Don't attack him!" She points to the tree.

Inu-yasha sneers at her and says, "I'm going to attack whoever I damn well please, bitch!"

"If you're going to blame and attack anybody for last night, Inu-yasha." She says in a hard voice, "you will blame and attack Sango and I." She emphasizes the word "will"

"But, but." Inu-yasha starts to speak. 'I can't attack her.' He thinks desperately.

"And, since this morning was not clear enough, Inu-yasha. Sit, boy!" she screams in his face.

THUMP! Inu-yasha's face goes into the muddy ground again.

She yanks his head up by his hair, pulling his some burned hair from his skull in the process. "IF you ever attack anybody for last night, Inu-yasha! You will attack me first!" She yells in his face. She releases his hair. "Now, Inu-yasha. Do you understand?" She wipes the burned hair from her hands.

Inu-yasha lays there his face deep in the mud.

"Inu-yasha . . . " She growls out.

"OK. Fine. Are you happy, now, woman?" Comes up bubbling from the muddy ground.

"Inu-yasha, I don't want you angry at me, or hating me for last night. Please remember yesterday and your promise." Kagome says in a quiet voice. Tears are forming in her eyes.

Inu-yasha twists his head to he can look at her. "Kagome . . . " he says, also in a quiet voice.

"Inu-yasha . . . can we . . . sighs . . . we need to talk, not fight . . . please Inu-yasha . . . " she begs in a quiet voice.

Inu-yasha grimaces, 'after last night . . . I don't know what she wants to say, but.' He says, "I'll listen, Kagome and we'll see." He sits up and moves into his traditional cross-legged position.

Kagome moves over and hugs him. "Thank you, inu-yasha." She breathes into his chest.

'Which first . . . ' she thinks.

"Inu-yasha can you smell and tell me if I'm pregnant?" Kagome asks as she hangs onto him for dear life.

Inu-yasha looks down at her like she's grown a second head. "What? Do you think I'm a pervert?" he asks.

"Inu-yasha?" Kagome lifts her head and looks Inu-yasha in the eye. She obviously does not understand why Inu-yasha reacted like that.

"Stupid bitch. How many fucking times I have smelled your piss, bitch." He growls out.

"But . . . "

"Shut up woman. I know I'm not the most polite person there is, but how many times do you think I've asked a bitch" he pauses and in his best Miroku impression he says, "Hey, bitch, you smell like you're pregnant, when was the last time you were fucked?"

Kagome blushes and whatever she was going to say never leaves her mouth.

"Or, you do know that married couples tend to fuck every fucking day, right?" He asks, like he's talking to a child, and he stares at Kagome, obviously wanting a reply.

Kagome nods and croaks out "yes."

Inu-yasha nods, like a teacher getting the response he was looking for, then he continues saying, "So, how in the hells do I know which night worked"

Kagome swallows hard. This isn't going the way she thought it would. Tears look like they are starting to form in her eyes.

'This is something important to her. I should explain. But. Damn it. I hate explaining. But. Damn it.' He thinks.

Inu-yasha, sighs, and slumps down, "Kagome, I spent my life on the fringes of towns and villages. I went from place to place randomly. I can smell it. But I've never stayed in one place long enough to figure it out exactly. It's never been important to me to find out how good I'm at it."

Kagome says in a small quiet voice, "oh, I'm sorry, Inu-yasha. I just assumed it was instinctive."

"It is, but I've never needed to find out soon it takes to smell if a girl was pregnant before, Kagome. So, I don't know exactly how soon it'll be before I smell it. Two weeks, a week, maybe less, I do not know." He takes a deep breath.

After he releases that breath he says, "That damned spell last night has really changed your smell. And you're so upset and emotional right now . . . All I'm smelling is that, Kagome."

"Thank you, Inu-yasha. I am sorry. I should have asked before assuming." She bows her head to him.

"But, you think you're pregnant." Inu-yasha states in a flat voice.

Kagome looks him in the eye, she takes a deep breath and says, "yes. The spell last night."

Inu-yasha grimaces and he screws his face up as he thinks in deep concentration. 'I thought so. Damn. A child. My son. Right now. He'll be a target. She'll be a target. What would Naraku do with my son?' Inu-yasha shivers in fear. 'That is the worse thought I've ever had . . . '

He grimaces as he thinks, 'Do I want to have a child with Kagome? Hell yes! But now . . . If we start being lovers, Naraku will found out about it. If she has my son . . . He's already destroyed the happiness I had with Kikyo.'

His ears twitch, trying to tell him something, but, Inu-yasha is so deep in thought, he ignores his senses as he thinks.

He growls as he thinks, 'If me and Kagome fight all the time, that is her best protection against him. Since all he'll see is the fighting, not my true feelings.' He shivers, 'I do not want Naraku to hurt Kagome. I do not want to think about that.'

He gathers his thoughts and tries to think about something else. 'Once Naraku is dead. Kikyo is put to rest. I've killed, ok out of difference to Kagome, hurt really badly, Kouga and Hojo. Permanently crippling them, would be a good start, I think. And if you've ever done something with her, I'll also get you too, Miroku. Then, then and only then I can do something with Kagome.'

Inu-yasha jerks and sits upright as a sudden thought crosses his mind, 'Last night . . . The child Kagome is carrying . . . It is mine or Susano-O's? He's already made it plain he's interested in her . . . What better way . . . ' A low deep growl comes from his chest.

After a pause, Kagome can see Inu-yasha is thinking and she does not to interrupt him too quickly, she says softly, "there's something else, too, Inu-yasha."

"What woman?" he spits out. 'Hopefully it'll get my mind off that last thought.' He thinks.

"When I was washing up . . . Sango and Keade saw this." She bends over, pulls her shirt away from her neck and shows Inu-yasha the bite at the base of her neck.

Inu-yasha glances at her neck. Then he stares hard at it and moves closer on Kagome.

"Mother fucking Susano-O . . . " he growls out in anger as he looks. 'Trying to fucking prove to me that he could take you last night and make you his . . . ' he thinks.

"What it is, Inu-yasha? Lady Keade didn't tell me." She whispers, trying not to provoke Inu-yasha's anger.

"It's fucking Susano-O." He states, but doesn't say anything else.

"I know that, Inu-yasha." She says with expiration in her voice. "What does it mean?" she asks.

"He bit you. He . . . How do I . . . He almost marked you." Kagome pales at that statement. "He did everything you need to do to mark a ma . . . "

He thinks, 'I'm not going to say mate.' And after a pause, he finishes by saying, "A person, but he never applied the magic to make the mark work."

"So . . . "

"It's just a bite. A weird bite, but nothing special. You'll heal and it'll fade away in a few days and it'll be gone."

Kagome sighs in relief. "So, it's nothing I need to worry about."

Inu-yasha growls deep in his chest for a second, 'but what about the child you're carrying? This is one more thing that tells me its Susano-O's, not mine,' he thinks, but he barks out, "yeah, it's just Susano-O being an asshole."

A flash of light and distance roll of thunder is heard.

Inu-yasha twists his head looking at the sky. The sky is cloudless. He raises a fist and shakes it at the empty sky as he yells, "Come fucking down here and fight me! Not in a god-damned dream, not with a lightning bolt! Man vs. man, you asshole!"

Kagome grabs his fist and cries, "Inu-yasha! Not now! Please!"

"That idiot almost marked you, Kagome. You should want me to kill him." Inu-yasha says in a somewhat puzzled voice as he allows her to lower his fist.

"I'm just glad I'm not marked, Inu-yasha."

"Yeah, being marked . . . " Inu-yasha starts to say something, but Kagome interrupts.

"I don't want to be marked by anyone, Inu-yasha."

Inu-yasha head swings around and he stares at Kagome. His mouth hangs open.

Kagome looks down at the ground, obviously nervous and she says, "I'm not going to want you to mark me."

"..." Inu-yasha is stunned into silence.

She glances at the necklace around his neck. She thinks, 'I've trapped him with that necklace. Kikyo has trapped him with that promise to go to hell with her. Naraku has him trapped in a cycle of vengeance.' She mentally shakes her head. 'My mother has made sure I've read the legends about dog demons. The good stuff, not my grandfather's fairy tales. Marking will bind him to me with magic, like the necklace. I'd not want him bonded to me with magic. I want him bonded to me with love, his feelings, not some magic.'

"I don't want you trapped," she starts to speak. Her voice starts out quietly, but builds in volume and intensity as she speaks, "bonded to me with magic. Like you hate me, but must obey the necklace. I don't want us bonded by magic, Inu-yasha." She finishes by taking a deep breath. And she says, "so when we do it again, promise me you will not mark me."

Softly, "Kagome . . . " comes out of his mouth. 'She . . . she doesn't understand . . . I love her and marking her is instinctive.' A small whine is released.

Kagome hugs Inu-yasha. "Please Inu-yasha. Understand. I've promised I'd stay with you. I will stay through anything, as long as the well works. It's just . . . I don't want you magically bonded to me. I just want everything to be natural, not magical." She whispers into his chest. She giggles, "although in a way, last night was magical, and very enjoyable."
She thinks, 'maybe, finely, he'll tell me that he loves me. I just came as close to saying it, as I'm going to do. Please gods, let him tell me, that he loves him.'

Inu-yasha thinks as she hugs him, 'What do I do? I want to hug her back. Hell, from what she just said and what she smells like, I could probably take her to the ground and have her again right now. But . . . What I thought about earlier . . . If she and I become lovers, Naraku and our other enemies. They will target her. For her safety, then . . . '

He takes a deep breath, pushes her away and then yells, "Then take this god-damned necklace off! Bitch!"

Kagome blinks a couple of times. "Inu-yasha! What?!" she sputters.

"You don't want us bonded! Then take this fucking thing off!" he yells as he lifts the necklace up.

"That damned necklace just saved your life, Inu-yasha!" Kagome yells back. "Without that to stop you . . . you'd be dead man right now!"

"I'd beaten them! Bitch!" he glares at her, breathing deeply.

"Inu-yasha . . . " She glares at him, breathing deeply. She pauses and she says through gritted teeth, "I had wanted to talk to you about my pregnancy, Inu-yasha. But . . . If you're going to be like this. It is yours and I would have thought you'd wanted to talk to me about it."

He swallows hard and thinks, 'yeah, she right. Or. Is she? What if it's Susano-O's? And if she has a baby before Naraku is dead, that'll be bad. So, if it's not mine and if it's going to make her a target, then the safest thing for her is . . . '

Inu-yasha orders, "Abort it, bitch."

"Inu-yasha!" Kagome yells with tears forming in her eyes.

"I don't want my shard detector to be occupied by a baby. Shippo's bad enough as it is. Finding shards is the most important thing you can do." He grits out.

Kagome glares at him. IF looks could kill, his ashes would be six feet under . . . all two or three of them that might have been left.

She reaches into her pocket and pulls out the bag of pills her mother gave her. "Inu-yasha, these are morning after pills. They prevent pregnancy. I could still use them and stop myself from getting pregnant, right now."

Inu-yasha stares at the bag.

"I was going to take them, Inu-yasha. All I wanted . . . " she starts to say, but she doesn't finish the statement.

Kagome glares at him, and says, "now, Inu-yasha, now . . . I will have my child and there is nothing you can do about it." She shoves the bag into her pocket, twirls around and starts to walk away.

She walks to the edge of the clearing and stops. Tears are flowing down her checks. 'Do I run away? No . . . If I run now. And leave him. I just promised him to stay forever. So. No. I'll stop and let him run away.' She thinks.

Inu-yasha watches her walk away. He thinks, 'why did she stop? To torture me, why else. I hated doing that . . . '

She whispers, "please inu-yasha . . . " Kagome is straining her ears trying to listen to whatever Inu-yasha is doing. 'I'll stay here and see what he does.'

'What does she want?' he thinks. He slowly walks to her.

Her senses feel him standing only a meter or so behind her. Kagome twirls around and hugs him.

Inu-yasha licks his lips and he whispers, "Kagome . . . " as he returns the hug.

She whispers, "Inu-yasha, don't say a thing, please. Just hold me." Her mouth tries to form a smile, but it fails, "remember what I said last night, Inu-yasha. You do say stupid things."

She whispers, "Yesterday, Inu-yasha, all I wanted to do, was to forget about what I was going to do. I didn't want things to change, especially for the worse." She sighs heavily, "I thought, I hoped, we could ignore it." Tears flow down her checks.

Inu-yasha thinks, 'Can I ignore last night. No. But, can I pretend to . . . '

She lifts her head and says, "Inu-yasha. Too much happened last night to ignore it, though. So, I'm not going to ask you to forget about last night. But, can we forget about the last few minutes? And, and when we find out for sure about my pregnancy. Can we then, please talk about it then? No fighting, just talking. Please . . . "

"Woman, you want me to ignore last night and today, right?" he whispers.

"Yes."

A pause . . .

Inu-yasha releases Kagome and pushes her away. He growls at Kagome, "You promised not to go back for a week, bitch. You were there earlier today." His mouth twitches, like he wants to smile, but . . .

"I had to get those pills for Sango, Inu-yasha." She tells him. Her mouth twitches, like she wants to smile. "Anddd . . . Inu-yasha, I will be going back this afternoon as well."

"What! Bitch! You promised!" He screams in her face.

"I've got to get more pills for the village women! And I've got to take back the video equipment!" She screams back.

"OH no! You're not! I can get those pills from your mother and I can take back the other crap!" He yells back.

"So . . . Everything is back to normal, then, Huh, Monk." Sango whispers to Miroku from the bushes where they have been watching things.

"It looks that way, Sango. I assume you'll interrupt and get those pills." Miroku whispers back.

"Yes. Hmm. Thank you for stopping me from interrupting earlier, monk. This was something they needed."

Miroku nods back. "Of course, Lady Sango."

"Hey! Kagome!" Sango yells as she stands up and moves around the bushes she'd been hiding behind.

As Kagome, Sango and Miroku talk among themselves, Inu-yasha thinks, 'What can I do to stop her from having a baby? Can I mix those pills into her food? Probably not. Hmmm... We do travel a lot. And she does get bumped around. If she gets hit in the right place at the right time... that will cause a miscarriage. But can I hurt her. If a small hurt now will prevent a larger hurt in the future...' Inu-yasha swallows hard. 'I'll have to think about that...'

End ch 6

Hmmm . . . One of the goals I had when I was planning and writing this story was to twist normal stories and look at things from a different POV. So . . . If I seemed to be bashing Inu-yasha. I'm more bashing stories I've read that have him as an all-conquering, always correct demigod, then bashing him. I am sorry. I do like him. It's just, he does on occasion need stories to deflate that ego of his. Consider his fight with the god tree, such a deflating moment.

Hmmm, A couple of reviewers seemed to be a little confused. (Which between my bad writing and some purposeful vagueness on my part, I suppose is to be expected.) So, I going to go over a few things in plain language.

Everybody is knows they participated in a magical fertility rite. As such, based solely upon that:
Sango is 100% sure she's preg. Kagome, who has had some maybe thoughts, is 95+% sure she's preg. Miroku, who has asked for additional tests, is 90+% sure Sango's preg. Keade, who has said that most, if not all the village women are preg., is 90+% sure both girls are preg. Inu-yasha, well, see above.

However, the modern preg. tests are still unused in Mrs. H's bedroom. And while Kirara did do the smelling test, that came back no, and he'll try later. So, remember everyone is acting on very little hard info. Just the surety of the magical rite of last night.

Inu-yasha and smelling . . . First I have no problems with a story that says Inu-yasha can smell it. He can, I just don't think it's as easy as, say . . . He pulls out and immediately says, "you're pregnant. I can smell it." It takes longer than that, OK.

However, using his senses are a good way to get around the week or so of "Am I pregnant? Am I not pregnant?" worries that should occur. Most stories want to get on with the story, not digress into a week or so of worries.(I just used 20,000 words on one day...) Again, I have no problems with it. (It's just sometimes, I'll read it and twitch at the bad real-life info, ok.)

Also, Inu-yasha and other demons are magical creatures. As such, it could be part of their powers to make sure females are pregnant. But this is magic, not superior senses.

http://www.plannedparenthood.org/teens/teentalk3.html#How%20 Pregnancy%20 Happens

From the above site.... Sperm live up to seven days inside a woman. A woman's egg lives up to two days after it's released from the ovaries. So . . . it's been less than one day since the characters have had sex . . . (While different sites tend to give different times, but the point is fertilization does NOT occur instantly, ok . . . )

After the egg is fertilized, it can take up to nine days before it embeds itself on the surface of the womb. Until the egg is embedded, there is NO substantial chemical change in the woman's body to detect. Because the woman is not pregnant until the egg embeds. Also many fertilized eggs do NOT attach and just get pissed away.

At this point in time . . . neither girl is pregnant. (Although their eggs are probably already fertilized, they have not attached to the womb . . . )

And even after the egg is embedded. It takes a couple of days for the hormones to build up. So, Inu-yasha pulling out and saying, "I can smell it. You're pregnant." Doesn't make sense. In a few days, yes, he can detect a change in her scent, but it takes days not hours or minutes, ok . . .

Oh, yes, I do want some additional opinions on this.

Kagome will have to explain the morning after pills, and pregnancy tests to Sango and Keade. Now, Sango trusts Kagome enough that she'll take them on trust. But, Keade, though, will want more info and Kagome will have to lecture her about modern knowledge of pregnancy. This scene . . . all it would be is me cutting and pasting a medical website. No real dialog, nothing but a lecture. My thought is to post a link to a medical website, but basically, skips over the scene. Something like "after Kagome explains about the pills and tests, (click on this web-site for the info) they come out of Keade hut." Unless there is strong and numerous objections, I will only be posting a link.

Kagome and marking. As I said in an earlier chapter. Kagome has read various stories about dog demons. Marking is part of those stories. BUT . . . Legendary stories are notoriously wrong. So, what she knows, could be and probably is different from what Inu-yasha would tell her. If they ever talk, more or less calmly about the marking custom, she'll probably change her opinion. However . . . mistaken ideas, comments taken out of context, etc., happen . . .

Hmmm.. Grammar and such, is not my strong point. If a reader wishes to send me a grammar corrected version, I will be more than happy to post it. But, what you are reading is the best I can do, Ok.

Now . . . I still have to deal with the pregnancies . . .
