InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Starlight ❯ Chapter 6 ( Chapter 6 )
Chapter 6
"Ta da!"
"I have to admit, that went over a bit better than I had planned..."
"At least she's not sad anymore."
"How would you know?! She's unconscious!"
"I'd be surprised if she wasn't; that's a lot of power to pull on at once..."
"Well, if she's unconscious, may as well give back the memories."
"Oh! As-as dreams?"
"It would be the easiest course of action..."

Kagome's arrow pierced the blue and green speckled orb, and it glowed a bright fuchsia for a moment. Dropping her bow, Kagome let it fade into the darkness of space. Waiting for the planet's glow to fade, her attention drifted to the emptiness around her. Stars flickered in their shadowy depths, threatening to either extinguish themselves or explode into the fiery magnificence of a supernova. Her attention returned to the planet as the glow died, and Kagome sighed heavily. (Yet another to add to the ranks of the general population... bursting with life until it ultimately...) Her gaze fell and her lips pursed imperceptibly. (Destroys...itself.)

Kagome awoke with a start, and suddenly realized how warm she was. (It's so warm here.) She looked up to see Earth's brilliant blue sky. (So much warmer than space.) She frowned at her own analogy. (Space? Was that really...a dream?)
"You have awakened." Sesshomaru called, commanded her attention. He waited calmly for her to sit up and straighten herself out. (Finally, some answers.)
"Yeah, I guess I have." She said absently, looking around at the empty field.
"We are in a different clearing than the one where you...fought Inuyasha." (They did not fight; he hurt her, she nearly killed him...)
"Oh." Kagome's gaze fell back to the ground in front of her. "Did you bring me here?"
"Yes."
Kagome was silent for a moment. "Um, thanks."
Sesshomaru didn't respond, but looked out over the grass where Jaken was finally emerging from the forest behind a well-rested Rin. She waved emphatically to Sesshomaru but his expression told her to not interrupt his meeting.
"How much of it did you see?" Kagome's question brought Sesshomaru's attention back to her.
"Everything from the flash of light on."
Her eyes, which had been firmly fixed to his plate of armor, dropped once again to the grass. (What do I do now? Does he know what happened to me?)
Sesshomaru let her silence lengthen. (What do I do with this human? I cannot keep her...)
(I can't tell him what I saw in my dream...)
(Yet I cannot release her back into the hands of the hanyou...)
(But I can't just ignore both that power and that weird dream...)
(And if I attempt to simply dispose of her...) He stopped the thought. Not only was it dangerous, he couldn't picture himself killing her. Kagome's face, moist with glistening sweat, looking up at him, her eyes wide and her mouth slightly open in what could have been fear, did not stir the right emotions required to kill. In fact, it stirred something quite... (Stop that.)
"I have to leave." Kagome said, jarring Sesshomaru suddenly from his thoughts. She stood up, gasped in her lack of energy and fell gracefully back down.
"You have not recovered. You cannot leave now." Standing up, Sesshomaru gently flicked a blade of grass from his otherwise immaculate clothing.
"So I'm stuck here." Her response was unusually flat, and Sesshomaru suspected `here' was a much broader term than he figured.
"Yes. For now."
Kagome searched for something to continue the conversation on, but failed and settled for simply looking up at him. Unable to meet the smoldering amber gaze, her eyes locked onto various points in his clothing. His armor, the small tassels that hung from it, the red design over his one shoulder, the blue and amber sash that was knotted at his waist. The blue designs caught her eye and she locked onto it for a moment.
"Is there something else you want?" Sesshomaru asked tersely.
Kagome, suddenly realizing where she had been staring, shot her eyes up to the sky and shook her head fervently, a hot blush rising on her cheeks. (Geez, that was worse than after the springs...) "I think I should go take a bath." Her voice wavered in her announcement and she jumped up, eager to get away from the situation. However, dizziness overtook her and she realized she had no power to go anywhere in her state.
"Do you insist on making me repeat all of my warnings?" Sesshomaru asked calmly, but an edgy tightness just barely pulled at his voice. "You are still too weak. Do not move." With that, he walked off, leaving Kagome collapsed in the grass.
She pursed her lips as she watched his departing form. (He's a jerk. Kind of.) Sesshomaru sat beneath a tree on the far edge of the clearing. (Maybe just honest.) Casting her a final look, he leaned forward to rest, crossing his arms. His snowy white bangs fell forward to obscure his closed eyes. (But damn, he's got nice hair.)
There. Once again, very short, but it's all I have for now. 9 reviews... Hm, I'm actually doing better than I thought I would! Once again, if you have any problems, questions or otherwise, please leave a review, or leave one even if you just want to let me know how you like (or dislike) it!
