Chapter Seven

Kagome sat on the window seat overlooking the front lawn. She bit into her sandwich as she watched the drama unfold below her. Sesshomaru was firing yet another cook. The enraged man was now throwing his bags into the back of a taxi as Sesshomaru handed him a check for his services. She unconsciously rubbed her stomach as she watched the display. The taxi drove out onto the street then turned a sharp left, before dissapearing behind the huge grove of trees. She turned her attention back to Sesshomaru. He was looking up at her window watching her. He didn't show any emotion but she knew he was seething inside. He had to be angry. The first time this had happened she hadn't said anything. Not really caring what the person thought. Sesshomaru had overheard the maids talking about the rude cook and had immediately fired the man. After that he had given her a lengthy speech about how she should stick up for herself and fire anyone who 'dare insult the lady of the house'.

After three different cooks she still hadn't said anything to him. From what she could tell he had the maids reporting to him anything that could be taken as an insult. This last man had made a huge mistake. She had walked into the kitchen and asked for a peanut butter and banana sandwich. The man got hysterical whenever she got anywhere near his cabinets so she had to ask if she wanted anything. She couldn't get a kami forsaken apple without asking. He had ignored her and deliberately turned his back on her. When she asked a second time he had told her to make it herself. One of the maids had left after that decleration. Kagome had happily started making her sandwich when Sesshomaru came in and ordered her out of the kitchen. After that she hadn't heard anything. But if the enraged look on the cooks face was any indication he had paid dearly for the words.

Sesshomaru went into the door below her window. She waited all of three seconds before she heard a knock at her door. Sesshomaru strolled in without waiting for her to answer. The meaning was not ignored. He wasn't just angry. He was livid. She rubbed her buda belly again as she followed his pacing form. After a few moments of silence she finally spoke up.

"I have no problem making my own sandwich Sesshomaru." He scowled at her. The emotion on his face scared her maid sensless. The terrified demoness fled her room quickly.

"I know you are quite capable Kagome, but that is not the issue. You gave an order when you asked for the food. His deliberate turning away from you was a direct insult. He would not do that to any others he worked for, he should not have done it to you. No one in this family will be treated like you have been. This Sesshomaru will not stand for it."

"Is that what we are Sesshomaru? A family? I think not. I know my place. I am a lowly human going to give birth to a hanyou child who's hanyou father is dead. In the youkai world I am a disgrace. You know this better than I. Do not ignore that Sesshomaru. This Kagome will not stand for it." Her last words were spoken in a low growl. Sesshomaru watched her in interest. She had been doing that alot recently. If she was insulted she never said a word. If her child was threatened in any way, shape, or form, she immediately turned hostile. At times she acted almost youkai. Growling had become a regular occurance and she was suddenly having cravings for foods that were not part of the human diet. That was why he had been hiring youkai cooks, so she would have someone who knew what she was talking about to fix her meals for her. The problem was that they scorned her. She didn't care as long as they insulted her and not her child. The one female cook they had hired had taken one sniff of Kagome and called her a youkai loving bitch. When she didn't get an expression from Kagome she had tried another tactic. He could remember how suprised he had been when one of the maids flew into his office without knocking, unusual enough in itself, and told him that they needed him in the kitchen. By the time he had gotten there Kagome was straddling the neo youkai and was pressing a blade to her throat. That cook had left four hours after being hired.

"Kagome...You need to take care of this house while I'm gone. One of the maids will make your food for you until I can hire a new cook. I will be gone for a few weeks. I think you should be able to handle things until I'm gone?" Her bored look was answer enough. He wondered if she knew she was picking up his habits. He watched her hand make circles on her tightening stomach. She was only a few months into her pregnancy but was already showing heavily. She looked like she was seven months instead of three.

She laughed as she felt the little booger kick her hand. Sesshomaru was watching her again so she walked over and grabbed his hand. She placed it on her stomach and pressed lightly. She saw the suprise on his face when he got kicked for the effort. He looked at her stomach for a minute before looking into her face. He grinned. Well if you can call it a grin. One side of his mouth lifted just a hair higher than the other. "Well he definitely is going to take after his father." He realised his mistake a moment too late. Her eyes didn't fill with tears like he thought they would. Instead she gave him a large smile and nodded.

Her whispered words followed him out the door as he left her sanctuary. "I hope so. I truly hope so..."

Wind fled past her as she made her way to the school building. She grabbed the fabric of her maternity shirt and pressed it tightly against her stomach in an effort to keep it down. School was back into full swing after the thanksgiving break. Now she was headed to her last class. If she could get to the doorway. The gusts of wind threatened to knock her down completely. She used one hand to latch onto the handle and pulled harshly. The wind was determined to keep the door closed. A large hand came over hers and pulled the glass door open. She stumbled inside and straightened her windblown clothing. When she looked up to say thank you she stopped. Her once dear friend Houjou was glaring at her stomach as if he was in the presence of something offensive. She resisted the urge to growl at him.

He had been a very good friend to her until they got to college. After a few months she had noticed a shifting, a change in him that she couldn't understand. He had spoken less and less to her. After Inuyasha's plane went down he had stopped speaking to her completely. Now that it was rather obvious that she carried Inuyasha's pup he was becoming downright hostile. He ignored her for the most part, but she kept catching him glaring at her, or rather her stomach of late. She knew that alot of the other students found her repulsive, especially the female youkai, but to have a friend treat her like that hurt. She wouldn't admit it though. Not to anyone. She was proud of the pup she carried and she would do anything to protect it. Anything.

"How are you doing today Houjou?" Her attempt at cheerfulness fell flat. Her voice came out terse instead. He picked up quickly on her tenseness. His cheeks turned red as he glared at her. How anyone could want to give birth to a hanyou child was beyond him. It made him angry to think that Kagome, his Kagome, would be one of those people. She belonged to him in his mind. Yet she had chosen to entertain youkai and half youkai as friends. And now. Now she was going to happily bring another one into the world. He felt his blood boil just thinkiing about it.

"I'm fine Miss Higurashi. And you?"

"I'm doing alright. How was your break?" She was trying her hardest not to grit her teeth. He was walking her slowly to her next class, but it was painfully obvious that he was staying as far from her as possible. You'd think I had the black plaque or something.

"It was fine. I assume yours went well. How is Sesshomaru-sama?" He grinned at her without a hint of happiness in his evil look. Everyone knew that Sesshomaru had practically demanded she stay in the home he used to share with Inuyasha. Her family lived so far away that it was easier to have a home close to the college. Sesshomaru had been quite plain in telling the school board that, as his brothers fiancee and future mother of his nephew, she needed to be under constant supervision and care. Something she could not have at the college. So he had moved her in that very day and had enough maids in the house at all hours that you would think they were running a boarding house. She wanted to groan just thinking about it.

She stopped in front of her room and nodded slightly to her companion. Houjou merely lifted a brow before turning on his heal and striding down the hall. She watched his retreating form for a second longer before entering the noisy room.

She slid as gracefully into one of the seats as possible. It was becoming difficult to do anything gracefully though with her huge stomach. She had another five minutes til class actually started so she looked around the room, trying to find any of her friends in this mess. She searched until she spotted one of the Inu youkai headed her way. The cute pixie face grimaced slightly. She knew what was coming. She also knew she wasn't in the mood to handle it.

The girl was beautiful. Her golden hair was coiled tightly in a knot at the back of her head while little curls fell around her tan skin. Her peircing green eyes would have been just as beautiful as the rest of her if it wasn't for the gleem in them. Heads turned as the female made her way to Kagome's desk. Her voice was smooth as silk.

"So Kagome. How does it feel to be the mother of a future outcast?" Kagome ignored the mean girl and consentrated on the top of her desk. Her hands were clenched tightly in her lap as she fought desperately to hold in her building rage.

"You do realise don't you? Your pup was never meant to be. I would be ashamed if I were you. Sickening really. It's too late now though. Now you can't get rid of the monster." She studied her red painted claws as she spoke. The girl looked so ridiculous. It would have been funny if Kagome hadn't been so angry.

All male inu youkai stood to their feet as Kagome lifted her head. Her face was so peacful, so calm. Her eyes were another story completely. The usually creamy brown color had shifted to a menacing black. She stood silently for a moment, staring intently into the green eyes before her. When she finally spoke every person in the room instinctively stood back.

"My pup is not a monster. My pup is wanted and I will never be ashamed of him. If I ever hear you say anything remotely close to that again I will personally rip out your heart and make you eat it. Do you understand me?" Her voice had become deceptively soft yet everyone heard it.

The poor youkai was backed into a corner and she knew it. If she backed down it was backing down to a human. If she said anything the pregnant woman would likely attack her. In the end pride won out.

"We don't need another monster in this world. We finally got rid of the one we had. " Her head lifted slightly as she snorted. The others flinched as the tiny woman smiled.
