Nineteen-year-old Kagome woke up with her heart thumping hard against her ribs. Tears were welling up in her eyes from a nightmare. The nightmare was a tragic memory.

 

The final battle with Naraku had come and gone.

Blood was everywhere. Kagome was wounded, but not fatally. She looked at her surroundings and almost vomited from the view. Kagome saw Sango and Miroku, lying dead in each other's arms.

 

The scene kept replaying in her mind. Sango was hit by Kohaku's blade. Miroku had screamed and ran to her. He held her in his arms and they were both saying that they loved each other. Then, Miroku was stabbed by Kohaku's blade too. When Kagome saw this she screamed and tears were pouring down her face. What really hit her the most was Shippo being strangled by Naraku's tentacles. InuYasha tried to save him, but failed miserably. Shippo was already dead when he cut Naraku's tentacle. Kagome ran to Shippo's body and cradled him like a baby.

 

Now, it was only InuYasha and herself against a powerful demon. InuYasha ran faster than ever before. He killed Naraku with some new power in his Tetsuaiga. They couldn't believe that they finally defeated Naraku. All of the demons that were Naraku vanished into thin air.

 

They looked at each other and smiled, then frowned. Their friends were dead and they couldn't bring them back to life with the Shikon no Tama. It would not be right. InuYasha and Kagome embraced each other and kissed. At least they had each other. Kirara appeared and mewed, then hissed. They knew who was there; Kikyo. InuYasha and Kagome knew what would happen. He would have to go to hell with her. Kagome's eyes started to fill with tears once more.

 

“Don't cry for me Kagome, it hurts to see you cry. You know that I love you. Keep the Shikon no Tama in your time. I know that it will be safe there. Keep it to remember the memories we shared along with our deceased friends,” InuYasha said.

 

Kagome could hear the shakiness in his voice. “ love you too InuYasha. I will never forget you. You are in my heart forever. Don't forget me,” Kagome said. They kissed once more and he walked to Kikyo's side.

 

Damn, that promise. It had to ruin everything! Why did he have to make that stupid promise with that walking corpse, Kagome hissed in her thoughts. In a blink of an eye, they were both gone.

 

Kagome walked into Kaede's village with Kirara in her arms. Kaede greeted Kagome with a sad smile. She knew what had happened. She sent a few villagers to bury their dead friends.

 

“I can't come back here anymore, Kaede, at least not now. Maybe, some day, in the future I'll visit. I'll bring Kirara with me since she'll be lonely. Something tells me she belongs with me now. I hope you understand Kaede” said Kagome as she hugged Kirara.

 

Kaede nodded her head and replied, “I understand child. Take good care of yourself and remember I will be here whenever you need me.” She stood up and hugged Kagome.

 

She whispered in Kirara's ear, “Take good care of Midoriko's decedent for me please.” Kirara replied with a meow.

 

Kagome took one last look of the Feudal Era. She felt a breeze gently blowing her hair. She could hear her friends saying that they would always be with her. Kagome put her hand on the Shikon no Tama that was dangling from a necklace. A tear escaped from an eye and she gently wiped it away. She turned around and hoped into the well and she was 500 years into the future.

Now she lay on her bed, tears going down her cheeks. Two months had passed since that horrible day. Kirara was laying down on Kagome's right side. She knew that it would take awhile for Kagome to get over this. Kirara purred and rubbed herself against Kagome. Kagome smiled and petted her. She lay back down onto her bed and went back to sleep.
