Kagome tried to get back into her normal life. However, she couldn't hang out with her friends because they moved away a few months after they graduated from high school. She missed hearing her grandfather's ramblings about all sorts of things. He had died two years ago from heart failure. Why was everyone dying?

Fifteen-year-old Souta went to private school that was far away from their home and her mom was working as a senior citizen caretaker, so most of the time she was alone. Time to time they would hire a maid for a day to help out. On Sundays, Kagome would give a tour of the shrine and tell about its history.

Kagome flopped onto the couch and put on the TV. Kirara jumped into her lap and Kagome started petting her. “At least I have you to keep me company,” mumbled Kagome. She looked at the screen. It was her favorite anime show. There was boy and girl fighting about whose turn to get the firewood while three people watched them.

“Doesn't that remind you of something, Kirara?” asked Kagome with some amusement. Kirara looked up to Kagome and meowed.

“I have to get over this. How long has it been? Two months? Ah, I guess there's a way to get over it. Where's that gallon of chocolate ice cream?” Kagome thought as she got up from the couch.

Kagome walked to the freezer and opened it. She saw the ice cream, took it out, grabbed a spoon and went back to the couch.

“See this Kirara? This is called devouring food when you're depressed. It's not good, but I have to get over this somehow, right? In my theory, this is a good away. It's like eating away your sadness. I'll probably feel better when I'm finished,” Kagome explained as she dug her spoon into her ice cream.

Kirara looked at her master with amazement. How could this human eat away her sadness with food? She just shook her head and just watched the show in front of her. She saw the boy `fehing' when he was defeated in the argument and went to get firewood. Oh, how to remember those days! Her eyes saddened a little when memories were flooding into her head. Maybe she needed some ice cream too.

Later that day, Kagome walked over to the God Tree. She remembered freeing InuYasha from the arrow that was held him there for fifty years. Kagome sighed and climbed up the tree. She saw the spot where InuYasha and herself would sit to watch the sunrise and the sunset. Kagome could see the erosion from the spot where the consistently sat.

Kagome looked at the sky and felt the sun's rays warming her face. Yes, she was getting over it slowly, but she knew that she could not get over it completely. How could she? The day after she came back, she vowed to herself, with Kirara as her witness, that she would never be with another man for the rest of her life. Her heart belonged to InuYasha and always would.

She remembered her first kiss with the hanyou, Miroku's hand finding its way to Sango's butt and how she slapped him, Shippo tasting his first piece of chocolate, and InuYasha's first experience with ramen.

“You know honey, memories are forever and pain will always stay,” said a familiar voice. Kagome looked down and saw her mother with a hand over her eyes to block the sun. Kagome smiled. She knew her that her mother was right.

“I know it's hard to accept change. We should all accept it, even if we don't like it,” said Ms. Higurashi. She sighed. She too missed the visits from Kagome's feudal friends. Ms. Higurashi also missed her father and his ramblings. She walked into the house to make lunch.

Kagome followed her mother and asked, “Mom, when will Souta come back home?” Ms. Higurashi looked at her daughter, “I think he'll be home in a few weeks. I read the letter from the headmaster and was very shocked. Souta is doing very well. He is an A student in all of his classes. Isn't that amazing? He's actually doing very well!” She laughed. Kagome looked shocked. When did that start happening?

Kagome smiled and went to the shrine. Kirara followed her. She never left her master's side, fearing something bad would happen to her. Kagome didn't want to go to the Feudal Era. Too many memories were still lingering there.

“At least demons are coming here. That's right! I sealed it!' Kagome thought as she slapped her forehead.

Kagome sat next to the well and closed her eyes, falling into a light slumber.
