Chapter Five

Go Away, Kirai!

Kagome and Inuyasha sat a few rows ahead of where Kirai was sitting. The entire room was silent when the movie finally started to play.

First, the opening credits rolled along, and then there was a girl sitting in a bay window, staring out at a rainy world. She sighed and looked down at her feet, where a small kitten lay, sleeping. She closed her eyes, but they suddenly jerked open as a flash of lightning appeared, followed immediately by a crash of thunder. Then there was a voice.

"Junoke! Come down to dinner, honey!"

"Okay, Mom! Be right there!" Junoke called back. She sighed once again, and, careful not to disturb the slumbering cat, climbed down from the window ledge. Suddenly, her voice started to sort of echo throughout the room, kind of like a voiceover. "I derno why I'm so down today………Maybe I'm just bored………But I can't shake the feeling that something's gonna happen today………or maybe even tonight. Well, I might as well forget about it. Otherwise, Mom's gonna wonder what's wrong with me."

As everyone watched the girl join her mother in the kitchen of their home, Kagome sneaked a look at Inuyasha, and adverted her eyes away from him. Inuyasha did the same. Why was he looking at me? she thought. Of course, the question I should ask is "Why was I looking at him?"……… Maybe it was just to see his reaction toward the movie. He's never seen one before, so I thought he might not have liked it. She sneaked another look at him, and pretended to focus on the movie. She couldn't keep her thoughts from drifting all over her mind. Questions kept popping in front of her mind's eye. She was brought out of this trance from a feeling on her shoulder. She looked to her left to see a clawed hand placed lightly on it. Her heart started to pump faster until she thought it would surely beat right out of her chest. Then a possibility ran through her head. Could Inuyasha hear her heart?

Kagome stole yet another glance at hanyou friend, and started to blush furiously. He was staring at her with a quizzical look. He had heart her heart speed up with his canine ears. His expression changed to amusement, then almost horror when he figured out what caused her heart to increase in speed. He had unconsciously put his arm over her shoulders and was holding her gently but firmly to himself. He apologized quietly and retreated his arm.

"It's alright, Inuyasha………" Kagome whispered. She looked at him, though still blushing, and smiled weakly. She really didn't mind his hand on her shoulder, pulling her toward his wonderfully warm torso. Wait! Why was she thinking this?! These aren't her normal thoughts when it came to Inuyasha. Maybe she was still a little shook up from Kirai's expression before they left her. "You can put your arm there again………I mean, if you want to………" She looked away, the heat crawling into her face at an extraordinary rate.

"Are you sure, Kagome?" he whispered into her ear, tickling her. She nodded, and Inuyasha carefully placed his arm around her again. It felt so natural to just hold her like that. He looked around with his yellow canine youkai eyes and saw that he wasn't the only guy doing that with his girl. He was sure that Kagome was his now and forever, and no one could--. Wait! Did he just think what he thought he thought? Kagome was his now and forever? Well, he thought, I guess it's kinda true. I do love Kagome, though I'd never admit it to anyone but her. But that would have to wait until the right moment.

When the movie was over, the pair walked out holding hands. "Awwww, ain't that just the cutest thing you've ever seen? Someone get a camera, quick! It's such a Kodak moment!"

Kagome and Inuyasha froze in their tracks, Kagome turning her head ever so slowly. "You again………"

Kirai just grinned, her arm latched onto a very cute, and, by the looks of it, very rich boy. He had a smug look on his visage, and he placed his arm around Kirai's waist.

"Hi, there, Kagome. I'm Dirone, and I'm Kirai's new boyfriend. You know, you're kind of a cutie, but not as cute as Kirai, especially with what she's wearing today." He looked at Kirai, and she batted her eyes at him. He smiled, and turned back to Kagome. "So, I take it that's your boyfriend? And what might be your name, my good man?"

"Why do you wanna know so badly, Dirone?" Inuyasha's hands began to ball up into fists. "What is it about names here?" His body relaxed when Kagome touched his arm.

"Chill out. They're just trying to get us fired up, Inuyasha." Kagome suddenly tensed herself and looked at Kirai and Dirone. She had just done what she didn't want to do. They now knew who Inuyasha was, and they probably wouldn't leave the two alone.

Kirai turned to Kagome's companion. "Inuyasha, is it? Well, so much for your little secret. Had I been your girlfriend, you wouldn't have had to worry about your identity being revealed." She looked back toward Kagome and smirked. "Just can't keep your mouth shut, can you, Higurashi?"

"Hashimoto, if you just leave us alone, I promise, nothin'll happen to you and your precious new boy toy." Kagome glared at Kirai and Dirone, and turned to Inuyasha. "Let's get out of here and go home." Inuyasha nodded, and they turned to exit the mall, leaving behind a fuming Kirai and a confused Dirone.
