The kimono was made of the finest silk, it was said to have been spun by a silk worm youkai for the very occasion in which it was to be used now. The silk was white, iridescent almost. From just under the neck on the back and crossing under the arms to the front, cascading down to the bottom were rivers of shimmering color. One side was blue, the other red and when they came together they formed a lake of the most dazzling violet. Two hearts were woven, twined together in the purest gold and in detail so vibrant were two faceless beings flying together in the sunset above the violet lake.

Suki could barely breathe as she took in the beauty of the kimono. To even look upon such a thing was more than she ever thought possible, but this woman, her mate's aunt wanted her to wear it. It was simply unthinkable.

“I couldn't possibly,” Suki said, her voice trembling and so soft it was no more than a whisper. “This is too grand, surely I'm not - I mean - I can't it's too much.”

The youkai woman smiled gently at the girl. She could tell that Suki felt nervous, undeserving of the gown. It was witnessed in the blush on her cheeks, the way her eyes held disbelief at the thought of wearing it. Moving to the girl's side, she helped Suki out of her bathing robe and into the fancy kimono.

“Of course you can my dear,” the woman said kindly. “Tsukuyomaru's mother wore this gown when she took her mate, and now you shall wear it to take yours.”

“It's too much,” Suki protested weakly as she looked at herself in the long mirror. “Is that me?” she asked in wonder.

The person staring back at her was beautiful, indescribably so. That couldn't be her, could it?

“Haven't you ever seen your reflection before?” she asked the girl.

“No, not really. How can that be me?” she asked as she reached out to touch her reflection.
