Fateful Meeting At the Crossroads
* * * * * * * * * * *
It was remarkable how Kagome was able to get back that night. She was so dazed and baffled that when she got back to camp, she didn't sleep. How could she? The Lord of the Western Lands had kissed her…and very well too…
Kagome's cheeks glowed bright red at that thought. That was only her second kiss ever, beside Inuyasha. She looked up at the sleeping hanyou in the tree she was leaning against. How ironic that the first two kisses she ever had, had been from brothers. What would have Inuyasha said if he found out what had happened?
` Nothing good…' Kagome thought resigned.
And what was she thinking, enjoying that kiss! She was so dim-witted for even putting herself in those circumstances…but then again…it was a unusually…nice kiss.
Now that she thought back to it, the kiss wasn't all that demanding. It was very simple and sweet, like saying hello. Which was very strange because of who administered the kiss. She didn't think sweet and Sesshoumaru went together very well… but yet it also went together flawlessly. Such a contradiction was inexplicable to Kagome but it was still there as plain as day.
`Kami, what do I do?'

They had spent all day walking, and now Kagome was exhausted. Her feet were blistered and burning. Not that she said anything…for some reason today she just wanted to keep walking, because the longer she walked the less time she'd have to reflect about what happened the night before. She came up with the decision to keep it a secret, because it wasn't something that would change anything. Sango would still be her friend, Miroku would still be a pervert, and Inuyasha would still be…well, Inuyasha.
She sighed deeply, and it caught Sango's attention.
“Kagome-chan, Daijobu ka?”
“H-Hai, Sango-chan, I'm alright.”
Sango looked at Kagome suspiciously.
Kagome looked away in embarrassed shame. Sango was very intuitive, and she knew that Kagome was hiding something, but didn't press the matter.
It bothered Kagome that she couldn't tell her best friend.
Shippou joined the group wordlessly.
Miroku slowed down to walk with the two young women. He looked at Kagome with a troubled expression. Even though the monk was a pervert, he was still a good friend. He always looked out for the welfare of this small group, and especially Sango…but Kagome wouldn't state that out loud.
“Lady Kagome, are you feeling well, you haven't `sat' Inuyasha all day, even though he's been as atrocious as ever.” Miroku said the last part with a laugh to lighten the mood.
“Well, I don't think `sitting' him will-” Kagome stopped as a loud `THUD' ahead of her was heard. “Oopps…”
A few feet ahead of them was a deep hole with, what Kagome was sure of, Inuyasha inside; A few seconds later he popped out looking disheveled but unscathed.
“Damn it woman, what I'd do this time” Inuyasha bit out.
“It was an accident, don't get your boxers in a bunch.” Kagome stuck her tongue out at Inuyasha.
“Boxers…” Sango repeated.
“Boxers?” Miroku asked puzzled
“What the heck?!” Inuyasha yelled.
Kagome held back a giggle as everyone stared at her like she spoke a foriegn language. Well, it was almost foreign, since it wouldn't appear for another few hundred years.
“Kagome, what is a `boxer'?” Shippou asked, tugging at her sleeve.
“Uhh…well-” Kagome cut off as familiar yokai energy washed over her.She knew that energy. She instantly blushed from head to toe.
Inuyasha caught wind of it as well and cursed silently as he pulled out Tetsuiga. Sesshoumaru appeared from the trees ahead.
He once again had his armor back and his boa and behind him trailed Rin and Jaken. Kagome felt slightly lightheaded.
“Sesshoumaru!” Inuyasha snarled at his brother. He was ready to fight, his sword held in front of him.
“Inuyasha, I do not have time for you. I must speak with your miko.” He said all this with as much emotion as a rock, but as Kagome looked into his eyes, which were on hers the whole time he spoke, she could see a cloud of emotion swirling within.
She felt privileged to see something that she was sure only very few people have seen, but as soon as she realized what she was doing, she hid behind her bangs and blushed profoundly.
Inuyasha glared at the yokai callously and defiantly.
“Get out of here, I won't let you near Kagome!”
“Inuyasha sit!!” Kagome yelled.
THUD
“Everyone, I'm going to speak with Sesshoumaru, don't follow me ok? I'll be fine.” Kagome smiled at her group reassuringly and followed the demon lord into the forest.
"Kagome!"
Inuyasha's plea fell on def ears.

Sango stood quietly and watched the scene take place.
"Lady Sango, are you well?" Miroku asked.
"Something...is happening between those two..." Sango said biting her nail in thought.
"My dear, what ever will happen.." He grabbed the hand she was currently nawing the nails off of. "...will happen. Do not burden yourself with needless anxienties."
"But Houshi-sama, Kagome-"
"If Kagome can hold her own in a battle of life or death, i'm sure she can hold her own in a battle of...affection"
"Don't you mean 'battle of love'?" Sango looked at him in question.
"let's not get ahead of ourselves"

Once they had walked some distance into the forest Sesshoumaru finally stopped and turned around. A somewhat satisfied look appeared on his face as he surveyed the area. Then he looked at Kagome and nodded to himself.
“I have become aware of the growing need for Rin to be near Humans such as yourself…” Sesshoumaru said, cutting to the point. He looked pointedly at Rin who was busy chasing Jaken about with flowers in the nearby valley just off to thier right.
“She hasn't anyone at my castle with which to interact…” He stopped in mid sentence.
“No one like her.” Kagome finished.
“I wish to have you come to my castle occasionally to keep Rin company.” He said flatly as if ignoring what she said.
Kagome pondered on saying no, but didn't think it was wise to do so. Refusing Sesshoumaru might be her death. She looked over at Rin who was busy decorating Jaken with the flowers she had picked. Spending time with the little girl might not be such a bad thing. Besides she needed a break now and then anyways. In the back of her mind, she felt that the real reason for agreeing at all, would be to spend time with the Lord, which had for some time now her undying interest. The idea of observing him and picking him apart at the seams was something of a treat.
“When?” was all she said.
She caught a glimpse of surprise in Sesshoumaru's eyes but the emotion was quickly snuffed out.
“Tomorrow. Be ready.” He turned from her and looked to his wards. “ Rin. Jaken. We leave; Go ahead I will join you shortly.”
Rin smiled and hopped into the forest with Jaken tailing behind mumbling about humans and flowers. Sesshoumaru looked at Kagome as if sizing her up.
"If your reason for agreeing is out of fear, than I do not wish for your help. I do not want Rin exposed to cowardace."
"I'm no coward!" Kagome bit out.
"No...I did not think so." Sesshoumaru nodded a goodbye before turning to leave.
“Why did you kiss me?” Kagome blurted out, unable to hold it in.
“Why did you kiss back?” He asked back.
“Because…” she thought for a moment. “…It felt right.”
“ Then we are at an agreement”
“Sesshoumaru?”
“Yes?” he was very patient.
She ran up to him and, standing on her tiptoes, she kissed him swiftly on the lips. It was a simple kiss but she felt him respond to it. She held on to his hakama as she balanced precariously on her toes. His hand came up to cup her elbow as she wobbled a bit, and just as soon as the kiss began, it was over. She took a step back and smiled.
“Your it now.”
With one last smile, she left.
