She lay looking at the ceiling as she listened to the beeping and constant hum of the IV in her arm dispensing antibiotics and sedatives that weren’t working, and the other machine humming that pumped blood into her other arm. The doctors had been shocked when she had looked at Inuyasha and thanked him by name. They had thought she was delirious from the pain medicine they had given her. They apologized, of course, to the man who she leaned against.
They hadn’t wanted to let her see her reflection, afraid the way she would react would hurt, more than help, her recovery. They had said the swelling would go down and not look so bad once the stitches came out. Due to how long she’d been bleeding and unknowing of what the sick bastard had used or whether or not he’d sanitized it, which mental cases typically wouldn’t since she’d said he’d planned on killing her, they kept her for observation for about a week, so that if she did form an infection, they could treat it quickly.
She hadn’t had much to do since they’d admitted her, and the potion finally completely wore off. She counted the holes in the ceiling tiles helplessly wanting to get out of bed, she just wanted to hear Inuyasha say what she thought he’d said before, when she first woke up, she was so sure that he’d said he loved her that she thought she may have cried, she didn’t have the heart to ask him if he really said it either. She just wanted to live with the dream for a while, that and she didn’t want anymore pain than necessary right now, she knew she’d die from heartbreak if she found out that she’d heard wrong in the state she was in. She closed her eyes, falling asleep from the pain medicine for the umpteenth time that afternoon. The constant noise of a hospital woke her up oftentimes at night, even under the influence of heavy pain meds that made her sleep almost constantly, and the bed made it hard to move, since they kept her reclined at all times so that the cords wouldn’t tangle from slack and movement in sleep. She was so bored that she wished she could strangle herself from lack of any stimulus to her brain; at least the task would give her something to do.
She felt like she was back there, the blade cutting her skin, wait, her arms were free and he was speaking to her again. “Just let me go!” she screamed as he laid her unmoving form on the dusty bed.
“I’m going to fuck you so hard!” he said as he leapt atop her.
‘This never happened! Did it?’ she asked herself silently.
She sat up, screaming from the fear and the pain, and suddenly, there was encompassing warmth about her shoulders and she saw the red. “I’m here, Kagome! Don’t worry, he’s dead, you don’t need to worry anymore.” He whispered as he held her tight to his chest.
“Oh! Inuyasha!” she cried as she gripped his haori in her tiny little fingers, sobbing words that he really didn’t understand, but whatever it was, she smelled like she was terrified of something.
‘What did he do to you, Kagome?’ he thought as he cradled a screaming, sobbing miko in his arms. He knew his chest was soaked with her tears.
Once she calmed down a bit, and after about twenty minutes of sniffling from Kagome, he finally asked her what had her so upset. “I told you!” she sniffled again.
“I’m sorry, Kagome, but I just didn’t understand! You were crying so hard I couldn’t make anything out.” He whispered shamefully.
“You really don’t know what you saved me from do you?” she whispered.
“He was butchering you, Kagome. What was I supposed to do?” he asked in his confusion.
“He– he! Inuyasha! He was going to–“she sobbed again, but once again regained her composure and finished, “He was going to rape me.” She whispered as the tears cut painful tracks down her cheeks and he pulled her into his arms and held her for what seemed like forever.
“Oh! Kagome! I’m so sorry! This should never have happened in the first place!” he said as he held her tight to his chest, rocking gently with her as he hid his own tears by tucking her head under his chin. As a knock was heard at the door, he wiped his eyes, but didn’t let go of her, afraid that maybe she’d disappear and he’d be back on that dark, blustery night that he’d found her; poisoned, naked, and bloody, with a maniac hovering over her with the scent of her blood in the air.
The nurse walked in and checked the bag of blood that stuck into her arm via a long tube from the bag, and subsequently stuck into her arm with a ‘needle’ which was something that she’d explained through a bleary drugged up state when they’d first arrived to see her on that first night. It was all still blurry to her once she got into the hospital; they all just told her to concentrate on getting better while the police handled it.
She leaned her head against Inuyasha’s chest, fearing that he would never come back if she let him walk away at that moment, she knew he’d cut her face up, and from the stitches, she could tell he’d done a-lot of damage. Inuyasha couldn’t honestly find her attractive after that, if he ever did in the first place. “I–I don’t know what would’ve happened if you hadn’t gotten there when you did.” She whispered once the nurse took out the transfusion IV and left. “I was so scared, Inuyasha! I begged him to stop while I could speak… I didn’t want to–I didn’t want–I just wanted to be saved!” she sobbed as he stroked her hair and pinched his eyes closed against the pain that engulfed him, and tried to make the pain in his gut stop.
“I–I’m sorry I couldn’t get there before he did what he did to you.” He said through clenched teeth at the thought of that bastard hurting her more than he had already done. “I let you down, Kagome!” he finally broke down, sobbing into her hair.
“Inuyasha?” she asked, releasing her grip of him long enough to look at him. “You didn’t let me down! You saved my life, Inuyasha! I love you for that, and for so much more.” She said as she laid her head on his chest once more, and whispering the last sentence.
“You–you do?” he asked as he stiffened for a minute.
“I really need to ask you, Inuyasha, when I first came around, I think you said you love me… first, did you say it, and second, did you mean it?” she asked as she fidgeted waiting for his answer, which seemed like he was stalling to answer.
“Yes, I said it, and yes, I meant it.” He said after what felt like an eternity and she threw her arm around his neck as she cried happily into his neck. He thanked Kami for his sense of smell, and for her. Kami didn’t even know the bounds he would’ve gone to if that maniac had gotten any further with his Kagome.
“I love you, too, Inuyasha.” She said against his shoulder.
“Oh, Kagome!” he said as he wrapped her as tightly as he dared in his arms and felt like he was flying. ‘She loves me!’ he thought as he lifted her chin and kissed every inch of her face.
“I didn’t know how you knew I was in trouble, but when you brought that door crashing down, I was so happy to see you, I didn’t care. You have always had a good sense of timing!” she laughed, and he soared as that small sound reached his flattened ears, he didn’t know how she was going to recover from this, but she was well on her way.
“I got this feeling… I was sitting by the well, and all of a sudden, I got this pain in my gut, like a knot the size of a boulder, and the next thing I knew, I was taking a flying leap here.” He said as he looked down, “I still should’ve been faster.” He said as he felt that pain again.
“I don’t care how long it took you! You saved my life! That means more to me than anything, and that I needed you so bad and you showed up without me actually finding a way to contact you personally. That says something.” She said as she grabbed the sides of his face and pulled him down for a deep, gentle kiss.
A/N: I do plan to keep up the story for at least a couple more chapters, and I know, most people wouldn’t react to being kidnapped, maimed, and almost raped this way, but for some reason, I just can’t seem to write anything better this way.
