She awoke as the nurse entered, she was exhausted again. Inuyasha had gone to the shrine to help Sota clean out the shed for Grandpa. She stared at the ceiling as the nurse said that someone was there to see her. She didn’t even look up to see who it was when they identified themselves as Tokyo police detectives. She lolled her loopy head over and tried to look serious as she stared at the strange pair. “Can I help you?” she asked as she looked at them. One was very stout and had a bald head. He was far more threatening than the twig of a man who stood next to him, but stood a head or two taller with a full head of hair.
“We wanted to ask you if you remember much of the attack?” the taller one asked with a slightly whiny voice that made her want to pinch her eyes shut with a spontaneous headache from the high pitch.
“Why? I’m safe.” She said as she lolled her head down.
“We found who we believe may have been your attacker, but he was torn to bits.” He said.
Kagome thought hard, she knew Inuyasha had killed him, she couldn’t remember how though. “Do you want me to ID him somehow?” she asked as they looked at each other.
“Um, he has no teeth left, and no face to really speak of. We wouldn’t make you look at a picture like that.” The stout one said, relieving the ringing in her ears from the continuous whine the other one carried, and apparently his partner had noticed her rubbing her ears every time he stopped speaking.
“Thank you for your concern, but I don’t think I could really be of any help. I honestly don’t remember very much… at all.” She said, being completely truthful. “I could swear that I could have told you everything not even a day ago! I can’t remember! I’m sorry.” She said as she stared in her confusion at her fingers that were clenching into the sheets.
“It’s okay, Miss, it’s probably a case of post traumatic stress disorder, we’ll come back when you’re feeling a little better.” The stubby cop said as he ushered his whining partner out of the room. Once outside, they gave each other five, sniggering evilly. “That was good! Who would’ve thought that would’ve worked? Post traumatic stress! Priceless, our brother would be proud.” The stumpy ‘cop’ said as he clutched his ribs. “That potion did the trick, especially since she didn’t even realize that we’d given it to her. Did his will say what else he wanted us to do after it kicks in?” he asked.
“It says to do what he’d planned to do, from the top.” The whiny one said.
“I was hoping you’d say that! I’m getting hard just thinking about it!” the short one said as they walked down the hall.
She pressed the nurse’s button and had them call her mother and Inuyasha to come to her. A cold chill ran up her spine as she curled her knees to her chest. “Why can’t I remember?” she asked as she rubbed her temples, hoping that it was just the medication, knowing that she couldn’t blame everything on the pain medicine. The tears slipped down her cheeks, because she was forgetting other things, too, not just the attack, but the first time she ever met Inuyasha, her eyes locking with his beautiful topaz ones, like they had hours ago. She could only remember the eyes as she sobbed into her hands; she knew that meeting him was something she always wanted to remember.
Michiro picked up the phone, and did the simple greeting as she smiled at Inuyasha and Sota throwing leaves around, in the air and at each other. She was glad that Inuyasha was going to join her family; she could see his intentions in his eyes when he looked at her daughter. The amount of love he held for her was amazing. “Mrs. Higurashi? This is the nurse at Tokyo General, your daughter said for us to call you because she’s having memory troubles, and the doctor would like to see you to speak to you about her condition anyhow, so could you and that gentleman you were with earlier come back?” the voice on the other end requested.
“We’ll be right there!” said Michiro, half way hanging up the phone as she raced outside, grabbing Inuyasha by the haori and dragging him to the front of the shrine to tell him what was going on. Before she even had a chance to react, she was whipped up onto his back and she barely had a chance to tell Sota that they were going to the hospital to see Kagome and that he needed to go and visit with a friend until they got back.
They leapt up on to the roof of the shrine, and they took off, Michiro clinching tightly to his haori in the back. “We’ll be there soon!” Inuyasha whispered.
