InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Taken ❯ Prisoner or Guest? ( Chapter 3 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
The sound of Kagome’s screaming jolted Sesshoumaru out of his thoughts about no other than Kagome herself. Is she in danger? Sesshoumaru thought as he bolted out of his chair. Rin stopped mid-babble and listened. Sesshoumaru delicately sniffed the air. Nothing amiss. All I smell is panic and sweat. Sesshoumaru mentally heaved a sigh as he calmly walked out of the room and up a twisting set of stairs, following the sound of Kagome’s screams. Sesshoumaru knew the castle like the back of his mind, every crevice and peep-hole, he knew exactly where it was. How could he have let her get away? He hadn’t even noticed when she had slipped out of the room.
Although he didn’t know how she had gotten away, he knew one thing. He would not let vermin such as herself freely roam his castle. He just would not permit it. Making a sharp right turn at a landing where there was a statue of a dog demon and continuing up the steps, he found her cowering in a corner, shaking. She must be frightened about what she surely thought Sesshoumaru was going to do to her for disturbing the peace in his tranquil castle. Sesshoumaru could smell the sharp stench of salt on the air. Sweat and tears were mingling, and Sesshoumaru’s sensitive nose found that he rater liked the smell.
Sesshoumaru could tell that she knew he was there. Keeping a tight rein on the fact that he wanted to afflict pain upon her for daring to do something against his wishes, he instead allowed a mirthless glare to be shot her way before his usual stoic expression came back full force. Kagome crumpled further into herself as the shaking grew violent. No one would protect her from Sesshoumaru if he wished to wreak havoc on her. Inuyasha was probably miles away.
Inuyasha glared at Miroku angrily. They had not succeeded in destroying Naraku, he had seeped the power away from Kagome and used it against them to wound them destructively. Nobody in the group had a clue as to where Kagome had landed, and Inuyasha was getting even more moody as the new moon neared. Tonight he would transform into his human self, and being so, Naraku could easily come upon them at night and destroy them, stealing their half of the Shikon Jewel they had managed to protect throughout the battle with the aforementioned enemy, though he had stolen more than a quarter of their precious jewels.
“Get a move on!” He shouted agravatedly to the slow walking Miroku. Even Sango was walking faster, with Shippo perched on her shoulder, determined to find Kagome before sun down. “What’s wrong with you?”
Miroku just looked to the ground and picked up his pace. Sango sighed and slowed to meet Miroku half way there, placing her arm around him and guiding him along the way as he became slower and slower with each passing step.
“Move it along, back there!” Inuyasha shouted again. “Damn, why are you being so slow today?” Snorting, he turned around and kept walking, making sure that his group was no farther that twenty-five steps away at all times, though he pretended to be ignoring them.
“Hentai!” A loud smack echoed through the forest, coming back ten-fold to the dirt path they were following. A dizzy look entered Miroku’s eyes, and Sango withdrew her hand from supporting him, allowing him to fall to the ground.
Sango hurried to catch up with Inuyasha, muttering things under her breath. “The nerve! And right in front of Shippo, too!” Her mutterings continued as dusk started falling upon them. Unconsciously, the slayer drew nearer to Inuyasha as the air cooled her. She was amazed at the heat coming from the hanyou’s body. With how cold he acted all the time, she was actually surprised at how warm he could be…physically, that was to say.
“What’re you doing, Sango?! Stay awake!”
“What? I wasn’t going to sleep!” Sango cried, hand on her boomerang as her head lifted and she pulled away from Inuyasha. She had just realized how heavily she had actually been leaning on Inuyasha.
Shippo was still perched on her shoulder, a determined look on his childish features. “We’ve gotta find Kagome before dark!” he said, sniffing slightly. “Bad things come out when it’s dark! And Inuyasha can’t protect us tonight!”
“Shut up, you little brat!” Inuyasha shouted, raising a balled fist and connecting it hard with the small kitsune’s head.
“Hey! I was just saying!”
“Yeah, well how would you like to go say that somewhere else?” Inuyasha threatened, his fist still in the air.
“Inuyasha!” Sango decided now would be a good time to intervene. Oh, if only she were Kagome, so she could say just one word that would make him behave himself. Flushing at what she had just thought, she quickened her pace, this time forcing Inuyasha to keep up with her for a change.
She hadn’t thought that he would start complaining worse. “Slow down, Sango!”
Sango sighed and rolled her eyes, stopping dead in her tracks and making an about-face to Inuyasha. “Hurry up, Sango! Slow down, Sango! Look, Inuyasha! Do you want to find Kagome before dark or not?” With Inuyasha’s ashamed nod, Sango continued, “Good, then I suggest you either lead or follow, but do something and stop complaining.”
Grinning to herself, Sango turned and began walking, but Inuyasha gently pushed her aside and walked in front of her. “I can smell better.” was his excuse.
Sango glared heatedly at his backside, and her eyes trailed down to look at his…backside. A flush rose to her cheeks as she looked away embarrassedly.
Miroku couldn’t have chosen a worse time to come up behind her and wrap his arms around her waist, suspiciously moving closer and closer to her chest.
“Human.” The single word caused Kagome to gasp in fright, though she raised her eyes defiantly from where her arms were flung over them in a half-hearted attempt to hide them.
She dares make eye-contact with me? The Inu in Sesshoumaru was rising, but he fought hard to push it down. Kagome, of course, did not see the inner battle he was having with himself. The look upon his face became hungry, and Kagome realized that she had not noticed him eating anything at breakfast, though a place had been set for him.
Taking a deep breath, Kagome gulped and stood on shaky legs. “Sesshou-LORD Sesshoumaru.” The look of fear gleaming in her eyes gave Sesshoumaru an immense feeling of superiority. Dominance. He liked it.
Letting his hard rein on his emotions slip, he allowed a cold smirk to slip onto his face. The audible intake of breath that had been pulled from Kagome’s lungs made his eyes glint. She fears me, yet she dares to stand up to me. Is she brave? Or is she stupidly stubborn? Such a piece of work, this…Kagome. The foreign way her name would roll off his tongue if he were to utter it made pleasurable chills run down his spine. Arching an elegant brow in acknowledgement, Sesshoumaru took a step closer to her, forcing Kagome to stumble backwards and almost fall off balance.
“I…I got lost.” She said feebly as a finish to her excuse.
“Oh?” Sesshoumaru decided it would be easier to keep things simple. He took another step advancing towards her.
“Y-yes.” Kagome took another retreating step.
“And why did you decide it would be a good idea to go wandering about my castle?” He was coming closer, and soon Kagome would be cornered against him and a wall if he kept this up.
Kagome drew a blank. If she told him she was scared of him, he would just take advantage of it. But by his strong sense of smell, he probably already knew. She didn’t want to go into why she had left breakfast. After making a gluttonous fool out of herself, she would have rather hidden and sulked. She was really sorry that she had screamed. Instead of answering his question, she stammered out, “Wh-what are you going to d-do to m-me?”
An almost evil look crossed Sesshoumaru’s face as he stepped closer to her, not answering her question.
Kagome looked on in dread as her back slammed against the wall. One step closer and-
“What do you want me to do to you?”
Kagome’s eyes widened, and her voice seemed stuck in her throat. Was he implying that he would do…that with her? After he had made it so clear that he hated all humans?
Get your head outta the gutter, Kagome! He’s probably giving you a choice of which way you should be tortured. I wouldn’t put it past him. A scowl adorned her face as she looked expectantly at Sesshoumaru, trying to hide her terror.
Sesshoumaru was fighting a losing battle with his demon side that said to him, female. Mate with her, take her. Make her obey you. Dominate her. The look of utter fear radiating off Kagome in waves was only making it worse. She fears you. Soothe her. Take her…
Sesshoumaru tore his eyes from Kagome and briskly walked away. Though it was no use, because she followed him, probably presuming he was leading her back to her room. Exasperatedly (though not showing it), he reluctantly led her to her room, though why she wanted to go there was beyond him. But as long as he got her as far away from him as mortally possible without her leaving the castle grounds, he would be fine.
What is she, your prisoner? The side of him that was rarely shown nagged at him, told him to make her feel comfortable. She didn’t chose to be here, you know.
Yes, Sesshoumaru fought with himself in his mind, but she is here, and there’s not much I can do about that.
There certainly is something you can do about it. You just want to keep her here. You like the scent of her.
Sesshoumaru scowled. Shut up.
Yes, sir! Right away, sir!
Do not mock me, you lower being.
Lower?
Sesshoumaru sniffed arrogantly and drowned out the voices in his head with a low, rumbling growl.
Kagome, still walking behind him, jumped with a start. She was on her toes the whole way to her room, wary of how irritable Sesshoumaru seemed to be since after breakfast.
And who’s fault is that? She questioned herself with a sneering lilt to the voice only she could hear. Kagome rolled her eyes. She hated having conversations with herself. It made her feel as if she were going crazy.
Go away.
The voice was silent for the rest of the way.
Inuyasha glared back at Miroku. “Would you stop that?” he yelled. The look of shock on Miroku’s face was satisfactory, but it wasn’t telling Inuyasha that he wouldn’t do it again.
“Why Inuyasha, what ever are you talking about?”
“Just keep your hands off Sango for the rest of the night, okay? We’re looking for Kagome here, not…not…not TOUCHING each other!”
Miroku looked at Inuyasha curiously. “But Shippo is touching Sango. And Sango was touching you. Who am I to touch?”
“No one!” Inuyasha and Sango cried out at the same time.
As they started walking again, Miroku muttered under his breath; “Well then, perhaps I will just touch Lady Kagome when we finally find her.” Inuyasha heard.
“WHAT was that?!”
Miroku looked up. “Nothing.”
“Right.” Inuyasha snorted and sped up. “Don’t even think about it, monk.”
In his mind, he added; Kagome’s mine.
