InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Taming the unruly ❯ Chapter 20 ( Chapter 21 )
Hey guys. I know, I KNOW. I have been away for a very long time. I'm sorry. BUT, I am here with a new chapter. I haven't forgotten this story, nor will I ever. If any of you have forgotten last chapter our wonderful couple went on their honeymoon and Ana had some hickups with the servants because she is human, mated to a demon, and a demon lord at that. Things got even worse when she realized that her mate was growling at every male they encountered, which they chalked up to their recent mating...Now we progress into a new chapter. Please don't forget to leave a comment and like and follow this story. Let me know how the story is progressing, I would love to hear from you. PEACE! :)
The last several days had been a nightmare. She had thought that by the time they had returned home and gotten back into their normal routine the obsessive growling would have stopped, but to her distress it hadn't. "Sesshômaru-sama," she called out, teeth grinding together in annoyance. He tilted his head, brow slightly raised in question. "Please do refrain from frightening poor Jaken at the table." He looked towards Jaken, who squirmed uncomfortably in his seat, while Rin continued to eat as if nothing was out of the ordinary. "Jaken, leave." He commanded, watching as the poor soul ran out of the hall as if being chased by a rabid dog. "I would like to be with my mate. Alone." he simply commanded, watching as the servants left without hesitation. "Rin," the little girl looked up from her plate, "Why don't you take the rest of your meal to the gardens? Have a picnic with Jaken." With a small nod and a bright smile little Rin gracefully rose from her seat before gleefully skipping away, leaving Ana with a disgruntled Sesshômaru.
"This is getting out of hand,-"
"I'm well aware," Sesshômaru growled, raking his claws through his hair. "Sesshômaru," Ana whispered, reaching for him. He grabbed her wrist, his eyes piercing into hers. The concern and confusion swimming in those golden orbs told her everything she needed to know. This was affecting him more that he let on. "We should speak with your mother," she urged. "Perhaps she has some insight as to your current unnatural behaviour." He nodded, his shoulders drooping in surrender before he gathered himself. Sesshômaru had been vulnerable before her many times, but this one was just as bad as when he had lost control before they mated. It almost felt as if he was relapsing like a drug addict. Was he going insane again, and if so what was the cause?
The soft touch on the small of her back pulled her from her thoughts as they made their way into Mitsuki's room. "My son, Anastasia," Mitsuki greeted, "What brings you two to my chambers?" She was as elegant as always as she walked towards them, her purple silk yukata glittering with each step. "Have a seat," she gestured, gracefully sitting on one of the plush pillows around the chabudai. "Mother," Sesshômaru addressed without hesitation, "When you and father mated did his behaviour change in anyway?" She chuckled behind her sleeve, "You mean if he growled at every male walking towards me like you do? If that is your question then no." That didn't sit well with Sesshômaru, nor her in fact. It only made her worry more. What if her thoughts were right and he was relapsing for some unknown reason. Could it be because of the miko inside her? "It could merely be because you two are newly mated-"
"We have been mated for two months," Sesshômaru interjected. His mother glared at him, not too happy about being interrupted. She cleared her throat before continuing, "As I was saying, that would have been my guess but seeing that some time has passed and the problem has only gotten worse, my only other conclusion is that it is due to the way in which you two became a mated pair." They both looked at her a bit skeptical of the simple answer she laid before them. "Because your beast, Sesshômaru, chose Ana; he could be overprotective of her due to her human attributes," she continued with a final note. "If that is the case, why did this Sesshômaru not have that behaviour long before now?" he pointed out. "Ah, fair point," Mitzuki mused, "Maybe this did not take effect until your demon resided within Ana."
"So, when will it end?" Sesshômaru asked as if begging his mother for an answer. Mitsuki looked at her son, a look of concern softening her features. "That, I am unsure of. Perhaps that old tree your father befriended centuries ago could be of more use to you," his mother said with a small smile. "I'm sure he would be more that happy to see you and your mate." This only seemed to agitate Sesshômaru more. From what little she could gather Ana could only assume that he didn't want to see this person.
"You do not want to see this friend of your fathers?" Ana asked after they had left Mitsuki's chambers. "That is not the case," he replied after a moment. "I am just weary of it all." She understood completely. This was something he was unaccustomed to and not knowing the reason must be troubling for him. Hopefully this friend of his father's could be helpful.
"Well, tomorrow we can go see him and figure all of this out," she encouraged. He nodded his response, accepting the encouragement.
The rest of the day had gone on relatively quiet, mostly because he had a meeting to attend and she had explicitly kept Mayumi at her side to convince him that she was in safe hands. Prior to their talk with Mitsuki, Sesshômaru had gone out of his way to have her close to him at all times, excluding her classes with his mother. Although she had gotten used to listening to political talks, it was not something that interested her. Watching him train was entertaining, and had its perks, but it would end in disaster if even one of the retainers happened to look in her direction.
As she lay on the futon, waiting for her mate to return to their chambers she couldn't help but revisit her thoughts from earlier. Was all of this her fault again?
Her thoughts would have taken a dark turn if the sound of the sliding doors opening hadn't interrupted them. "Sesshômaru," she breathed, rising from the futon, thankful that he arrived just in time to pull her from her worried thoughts. "What troubles you?" he asked. She shook her head, a sudden uneasy feeling took hold of her. "Ana," Sesshômaru called out, rushing towards her and grabbing her shoulders. The sound of his voice faded, his features turning blurry. The slow beat of her heart suddenly thundering. She felt hot but cold at the same time. There was a hum beneath her skin as her chest heaved to release the pressure inside her stomach only for nothing to come out. Instead the pressure burst from her body, a bright pink light illuminating the room, blinding her.
She gasped as she shakingly pushed herself up from the floor, her ears booming from a loud ringing. As her vision returned to normal, and the screeching died down, the scent of scorched flesh hit her nose. "Sesshômaru?" she hoarsely called out, wincing as her head throbbed. What-?" All words stopped when she saw Sesshômaru, clothes singed with one arm clutched in the other, burned. "Oh my gosh, Sesshômaru!" She reached for him but he took a step back, a soft growl escaping his lips, frightening them both. "I-" she never got to say what she wanted when Mitsuki, Mayumi and Shizuka with a few soldiers came barreling into their chambers. "What is the meaning of this?!" Mitsuki barked at Ana. "Mother," Sesshômaru calmly stated. "This is no fault of Ana's." He looked at her as he spoke those words, an almost hopeful look in his eyes that asked her if it was truly so. She herself wasn't sure about what just happened and when Mayumi and Shizuka approached her she took a step back out of fear, halting their approach, worried expressions on their faces.
Tears blurred her vision as she tried to find the words to speak. "I," she stuttered, fumbling for an explanation. "I don't know what's happening," she choked, chest heaving from holding back the painful thought of hurting her mate. A shiver ran through her body, as she gagged. That build up she had felt earlier came back with a vengeance sending her to her knees. "Ana!" she heard, then a harsh "Step back!" A command, no doubt shouted form her mate as another burst of energy blasted from her body, tearing a scream from her throat. All the muscles in her body clenched as the wave of energy spilled from her, sending her to the floor with a thud before all went black.
ooOoo
Everything hurt and her ears were ringing. "You are quite the complex human," she heard someone say from afar. "Kiyoshi?" she whispered hoarsely, groaning as she tried to sit up but failing miserably. "Don't" he recommended softly shaking his head when she tried to sit up again. "You are also quite dangerous. We know that the demon in you was stable, but now it seems as if the miko in you is fighting back." That was not news she wanted to hear, not when everything was going fine for the past few months. "How can we-"
"That is something past even my healing capabilities," he answered, knowing what she was about to ask. "We demons do not dabble with miko abilities. The main reason…. Well you know why."
"Did I hurt anyone else?" she asked with a sob, dreading the answer. He didn't say anything for a while, as if contemplating how to break the news to her. He sighed, "Sesshômaru sustained the most damage because he pulled Shizuka and Mayumi away from the blast but wasn't fast enough to get away from it." Hearing that alone brought tears to her eyes, she was hurting him once again. "Do not worry, he does not blame you and also he is recovering quite well." She looked at him, seeing the way his mouth flapped but not really fully comprehending his words. She hurt them, she hurt the people she loved and it is all because of this miko she had inside her. It was like she was a ticking bomb waiting to happen. "Anas-"
"How come you are so far from me?" she asked, noting that he was indeed a fair distance from the futon she lay on. "For safety reason," he simply stated. "When you passed out you had another attack. One such as myself would have thought that a miko's power would have a wider range of destruction since I've never witnessed it myself, but have heard stories, however to my surprise your power was only concentrated in a small area around you. Perhaps it is because you habour the miko inside you rather than being one yourself. It happened several more times in your coma like state. The point where I am standing is a small distance from the radius of your outbursts."
"What's going to happen to me?" she knew he could hear the fear in her voice. With a small smile he said, "We are searching for a solution, for now Mitsuki-sama had to recruit human servants to take care of you, something Sesshômaru-sama was not too fond of. They will be here shortly to give you food, I shall take my leave, Ana-sama." He bowed, turning to leave, only to stop at the sliding door, "Sesshômaru-sama will not leave you and is more than determined to find out how to stabilize the two forces inside you. Also, do not worry, Mayumi, Mitsuki-sama and Shizuka are all worried even though some show it more that others." As he left the only thing she could do was contemplate what was happening in her life.
ooOoo
Sesshômaru sat in his garden, legs folded neatly underneath him, eyes shut as he forced himself to take calming breaths, a challenge due to several factors. One being the rampaging demon inside him wanting to release frustrated anger, another being the remnant energy from the burst his arm and the front of his legs received that day. They still twitched and itched even though they were fully healed. It was a reminder of what happened, which only made his beast and quite frankly he, himself more frustrated. He didn't like not knowing things, that was something he prided himself in, knowledge, and yet here he was. What made it worse was the sleepless nights, granted he could go for long periods of time without sleeping, but he needed to heal and sleep was one of the best factors. Unfortunately, his dreams revolved around the incident, seeing his mate screaming as miko energy blasted from her body. It reminded him of how she screamed in her sleep when he had first brought her here. Even more so he ached, physically to be next to her.
His instincts were conflicting. On one hand he wanted her near, to have her scent fill his nostrils, her soft skin against his, her presence near. It soothed something deep within that he couldn't pinpoint. At the same time another part of him screamed survival. The only reason he survived the first blast was because of his primitive survival instinct and reflexes. He was never on guard around her, she made him relax "Us being uncertain will do us no good," his beast spoke, summoning him to the depths of his subconscious where his demon paced. "We cannot help her in this condition." He didn't respond to his beast, not for a while. "Are you certain we bonded with her, that our energy was accepted?"
"Are the demon markings on our body real?" He could have sworn he saw his beast roll his eyes. "We are one Sesshômaru, you know the answer to your own question. Do not be foolish." He opened his eyes then, pulling himself from his subconscious. Of course he knew, but it only confused him now. Visiting Bokuseno a few days prior had proved to be uneventful. The old hermit tree had no answers, knew nothing as to what could have caused his sudden change in behavior and was truly amazed when he learned that the human Sesshômaru had mated was also a miko who was from the future and was able to accept and house his demon powers within her. He had never seen the tree so stumped in his life which only added to his frustration. How was he going to save his mate? Humans were so fickle, even the human servants that his mother had procured to take care- That's when the idea came to him. How did he not think of this before? His brother's woman was a miko and that old woman he had Rin stay with for a while. Perhaps they would know how to help his mate.
Immediately he rose from where he was sitting and headed to his chambers. He had to find his brother and his miko. As a servant dressed him in his armor another servant, scent heavy with anxiety approached him. "I have some unsettling news Sesshômaru-sama," he spoke, head bowed in respect. "Continue," he commanded, irritated that he was being disturbed. What matter could it be that a messenger was sent directly to his chambers? "A wounded soldier returned from scouting. He found Naraku. It seems as if he was gathering minions..." It felt as if the world had stopped when he heard those words. Now? Out of all the times for the slimey halfbreed bastard to show himself it had to be now?! The muscle under his eye jumped, the sudden pulsating energy around him sending the two servants to their knees. "Leave," he commanded, shrugging on the last piece of his armor and securing his swords at his waist.
It was hard controlling his beast as he walked to his mother's chambers. The temptation of letting loose growing with each step he took as his mind swirled with rage. He needed to stay calm, and think rationally about the situation. The plan was simple. Send a servant to collect his brother's miko while he hunted the mongrel.
Ignoring manners, he barged into his mother's chambers, harshly dismissing any servant within her quarters. "Mother. There is an issue." She slowly turned to him reprimand on her lips but he spoke before she could say anything, "I have word on Naraku'." She snarled when she heard that name, "Of all the times," she tsked. "It seems as if he is gathering minions."
"He plans to strike soon," she stated simply. He nodded his answer. "Ana..." she trailed off. "I think it would be best for a miko to take a look at her. I plan to send a servant to my brother's village and relay the news to him and the old woman Rin had resided with for a short while. I will go after Naraku."
"Hmm, I see you have already thought of everything thing. Alright then, you go on your way. I will select the servant and make sure Jaken accompanies them….No.." she paused for a moment, rethinking her decision. "I believe sending Jaken alone should do. He is familiar with the group and would be able to get their faster on his own." Sesshômaru sounded his approval. He knew his brother was one who jumped first and asked question later, sending Jaken would be better than sending one of his servants. Although, now that Inuyasha had been with the woman for some time now, it seemed as if he has been less temperamental in that regard as of late. It's better to be safe than sorry. However, the miko and Ana seemed to be fast friends, when she heard her name surely she would listen and come to the castle. "Sesshômaru," his mother called pulling him from his thoughts, "You need to focus. There is an imminent threat to our lands which must be dealt with before it becomes an overgrown thorn. Anastasia will be fine." He had never seen his mother be this compassionate since he'd been a pup, which was odd yet refreshing at the same time. He tilted his head in understanding, turning to take his leave. "Send Jaken out to my brother's village, I am going to see my mate." With that he left.
