The four corners of the room grew closer together. Her breathing drew ragged as her lids closed tight. “You gotta calm down,” she told herself as she took a calming breath, grabbing the suddenly shaking arm tightly to anchor herself. This was not Naraku’s room. Ana knew this but the similarity was uncanny. She wasn’t locked in but she couldn’t get out either. Yes it was warmer and a lot more friendly, but at the same time it was still daunting. She wanted her mate. It was just too much being away from him for the past several days. Perhaps.. She stopped that thought. If she were to have another outburst she would hurt someone and she wouldn’t be able to live with herself if she killed someone, even if it was accidental.

A soft knock pulled her from her thoughts. “Enter,” she called out turning only to see her mate. “Sesshômaru,” she whispered, a sudden rush of warmth filling her body as she rushed over to him, only to stop in her tracks. “Don’t come close to me, please,” she whispered, taking a step back as tears filled her eyes, “Leave, you aren’t supposed to be here. I-”

“Ana.” The sternness in his voice shut her up instantly. “I hurt you,” she said a few moments later. It hurt to think about it. To know that she could hurt him again. “This Sesshômaru knows that it was not done on purpose. I am going to fix this.”

“How! How can you fix it if we don’t even know what it is?!”

“You will stop this behaviour!” his voice boomed, a swirl of demonic energy stirring the air around them. She swallowed thickly, fighting the frustrated tears that bombarded her. “Ana,” he called out softly walking towards her. She didn’t step back this time. He was risking his life, she knew, and that only made her heart beat even faster. What if?

She couldn't get the words out of her mouth to tell him to rethink his decision when his fingertips grazed her cheek. His touch sent a small spark of energy across her skin. God how she had missed his touch. Something tugged within her as if it was trying to reach out and bond with the energy he gave off. Her eyelids drooped as his lips gently brushed across hers before kissing her all together. Unwanted tears escaped as their kiss deepened, her fingers entangling in his silky hair. “Sesshômaru,” she whispered after they pulled apart. “I will find a way to fix this. You haven’t had another burst in hours. That means that they are stabilizing.”

“I know, I know, but what if it happens again?”

“I know you are scared,” he comforted as he ran his fingers down her braided hair, “But please trust me.” She nodded, thankful that she didn’t have another outburst in that moment. “I will be gone for a few days,” he said suddenly. She pulled away from him, “What, Why?” she asked. “For official business, nothing you have to worry about.” She didn’t like this. “Can’t I come with you?” Him leaving was not an option for her, she didn’t want to be away from him, these past couple of days had been terrible. She knew he could sense her confliction. Not that he had to, it was quite obvious by her words and actions. It was difficult, really. On one hand she was scared to death of possibly hurting him, but on that same level she didn’t want to be away from him.  “Ana… Ana, look at me,” he said, taking her face between his hands. “My mother will be here along with Mayumi and Shizuka.”

“You don’t want to go,” she stated simply, seeing the truth in his eyes. He frowned then, his maroon lids closing tightly before looking at her again. “This Sesshômaru has no choice. You will stay here and when I return we will fix you.” It was as if he had a plan of sorts, or he was just commanding the universe to bend to his will. Either way she nodded, afraid that if she spoke she would break down. She needed to trust him.

When he left she crumbled to her knees, ragged breaths escaping her lips, chest squeezing as her heart raced and tears filled her eyes. She didn’t want this, this uncertainty, this feeling that something was being hidden from her. Even though he said those words it did not mean that he had something that would magically heal her when he returned. She couldn’t hurt him again. No. Maybe Kagome would know something, or maybe Kaede? That’s it! She should go and find them. It wouldn’t be hard to sneak out of the room, would it? There were no demon guards since her little situation started, only human ones. Maybe when they fell asleep? She could be gone and be back possibly before Sesshômaru returned, but she knew the moment they realised she was missing Mitsuki would send a whole army to look for her. Maybe this wasn’t the best idea. But, Ah-Un knew where the village was and he was very fast. They could reach Inuyasha's village long before Mitzuki sent someone to look for her. By that time everything would be fixed, right?

Her limbs trembled as she slowly stood, determination filling her very core. It was time to take matters into her own hands. She may have trusted her mate, but at the same time she couldn’t stand around and do nothing like a damsel in distress. That was not who she was. Since Ah-Un knew how to get to the village, the only thing left for her to do was to get to his stable and beg him to take her. Getting there would be tricky, she would have to sneak past guards and stay out of sight. Hopefully she wouldn’t have another outburst, because that would be embarrassing and could kill Ah-Un and herself. A risk, no doubt, but better to try than not try at all.

She paced as she thought, gnawing at her bottom lip and nails as she did so.There were several facts that she knew: 1. There were no guards at the stables at night because most security were set to patrol, 2. The human guards set to watch her were outside her room, she could climb out the window since it wasn’t that far up and she had cloth to create a makeshift rope, 3. She would be in A LOT of trouble if she got caught.  Alright, this just meant she couldn’t get caught and she would have to leave in the dead of night. With a plan haphazardly thrown together the only thing left for her to do was execute it.

Thank God for melanin and dark clothes. Carefully she opened the window of her room, inspecting the area. There was barely any light peaking through the thick clouds. Perfect. Gingerly tying the silken rope she had constructed to the nearby closet she tossed it outside and made her way down. “Step one complete,” she mentally checked off. “Now for step two.”

Movies made it seem so easy, simply sneak out! But no, with every step she took the leaves crunched under her sandals, ringing in the silence of the night. Any wrong move would blow her operation sky high if she wasn’t careful. Finally past the crinkling leaves and onto the stone walkway she tiptoed towards the wall, hugging them as if it  were her best friend, something she and spy movies could agree on. Her heart, on the other hand, was her enemy. The thing wouldn’t stop thumping. Hopefully none of the guards had as good a hearing as her mate because they would be able to hear her from a mile away.

Ducking through the bushes and hugging walls finally brought her close to the stables. The only thing she could think of in that moment was that luck was on her side. Although she had some close calls she was able to tiptoe her way out of it. It was also good that her scent was practically everywhere since she lived here.

Eyes finally adjusted to the night light she scanned the area around the stables. No one was  around just as she had predicted and the gates were slightly open to allow the dragons fresh air and if need be quick access. Thank God for that. After one more scan she made a dash for the stables, stumbling as she ran up the slight incline through the gates. Her chest heaved as she gulped in air, her heart rattling in her chest. It took a moment for her to catch her breath and an even longer time for her heart to settle down.  She took a deep breath, calming her mind, it was now or never. “Ah-Un”, she whispered trying to locate the two headed dragon. A soft neigh in the distance caught her attention and she followed the sound to where they stood excited that she came for a visit. That woke a few of the other dragons which almost lead to an all out wake up party if she hadn’t harshly sushed them. Everyone calmed instantly.

She hoped no one had heard and after a few minutes of silence and with no sound of someone approaching the stables she whispered softly, “I want you to take me to Inuyasha’s forest, to the village of Edo.” They at first simply looked at her as if she was crazy, before nudging her in concern. “I don’t want to hurt anyone anymore. I hurt Sesshômaru. I need help.” It was difficult not being able to tell if the animal understood her. Yes, they were smart but could they understand her urgency?

As if to disprove her doubts they plopped to the floor, one of the heads nudging her to get on their backs. Hesitantly she did so, unsure of what they were going to do. Slowly, but surely they made their way to the door of the stable, stopping as if  they had sensed someone nearby before continuing their walk. With the heaviness of the night cloaking them Ah-Un jumped silently into the air, darting over the nearby wall. “Thank you, Ah-Un,” she whispered, fondly patting the side of the animal. As the breeze harshly brushed over her skin she pulled the cloak she had on over her head, leaning into the somewhat warm padding on the dragon’s back, slowly drifting to sleep, a smile grazing her features. Once she would be back, she’d be harshly scolded for what she had done, but at least she would have fixed the problem so she wouldn't hurt anyone again.
