InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Taming the unruly ❯ chapter 30 ( Chapter 31 )
He assessed the situation, first by wiggling his toes, then flexing his thighs and last his fingers. Everything seemed to be functioning properly. He took a slow breath, allowing his senses to filter through his surroundings. He wasn’t back at the castle. Where was he? His mother was close, judging from the heavy scent of rose and various citrus scents. He could tell they were in a hut. His yokai felt constricted so it was definitely small. There was an underlying scent of his brother scattered about, but he wasn't near. So they were in Edo.
“Mother,” he snarled as he rose from where he lay. “Finally awake I see,” she answered. His fingers were wrapped around her dainty neck in the blink of an eye, a claw deadly close to her jugular. “You would honestly kill your own mother?” she asked calmly. “Says the mother who broke her son’s neck,” he growled, squeezing as he said so. “You would have killed her.” His grip loosened. “ I wouldn’t-..” He couldn’t finish that sentence and released his mother then. “Where is she?” She didn’t answer for a while. “She is safe.”
“That is not what I asked!”
She sighed. “Until I know that you will not harm her. I will not tell you where exactly she is.”
“She is here isn’t she?”
She turned to him. “I am not surprised that you know that. And I don’t advise you to do that,” she added as he went for the door. Ignoring her warning he reached for the latch only to reel back in pain. “Must you always go against your mother’s will?”
“What is this?”
She chuckled. “A spell.” He knew that she wasn’t lying. “Why?” Actually, he knew the answer. “That thing inside her is an abomination!” He barked as his yôkii spiked. The thought of it squirming inside his mate only added to the anger. “You will calm yourself!” His mother’s commanding growl dampened his growing yoki, but did nothing to quell his anger. “The angrier you are, the stronger the spell.”
“So you locked us in a room?”
She merely shrugged. “I needed you away from her so you could listen to me.” He stared at her, trying to figure out what his mother's intentions were. “Son, that child is not what you think it is.” He was not in the mood for her games, she should know that just by looking at him. Was she numb? His yôki could probably be felt by humans miles away, but still she pressed on. “This may be hard for you to understand, but the child is yours.”
He scoffed, then chuckled. “You are not joking,” he realized out loud.
“I do not joke as you put it,” she responded unamused. “But how?” He asked, confused. “I didn’t sense a child. I was mindful of her cycle. She didn’t want one until all of this was over.”
She merely shrugged “I am well aware, child. The only explanation would be that the miko she houses masked the child’s presence. As for when... Possibly the night you two consummated, judging by how far along she is.”
Things were shaping up to be quite disastrous. He had tried to kill his mate, no questions asked. He had let his baser instincts override his intellect. What kind of animal was he? The soft touch of his mother’s hand pulled him from the spiraling despair that he had created for himself. “My son.” He laid his head on her shoulder, something he had done often as a child when he needed comfort. She gently ran her fingers through his hair, gently scraping his scalp. “You can go to her now.” He understood what she meant. Actually, he knew where she had been all along.
Taking his mother's advice, he went for the latch, both wanting and dreading to meet his mate. Would she even forgive him for what he had done? Was she alright? Did he deserve to be with her, with their child? His child. He was doing to be a father. Pride swelled inside him, the thought of having a child, holding them, seeing them grow, teaching them. He came up to the old miko’s hut. She was outside, waiting for him. “Ye took longer than I thought.”
He said nothing. She took the silence for what it was and stepped aside. For a moment he simply stared unsure if he was prepared to see her. “Go on in child, she needs ya.” He did as he was told, pushing the latch and entering.
There she was, asleep. Ignoring the others in the room he went to her. He could sense the child. Strong. The child was definitely Inu. He watched her sleeping face. She was so calm and beautiful. He kept on watching, unsure of what he should do when there was a sudden increase of her heart rate. “Ana,” he called out. “Ana, please wake up.” He watched on in dreaded hope, wondering if the sound of his voice would rouse her out of this deep sleep. When nothing happened it took all he had not howl in sorrow. He gently took her from her resting place, he would take her back to the castle and watch over her. As he pulled her close, ready to leave the hut, she shifted in his arms. There was a small groan that came from her lips, then her eyes fluttered open. "Sesshomaru?"
