There was a twinge of sadness lurking in his eyes whenever he would look at her. She understood why he blamed himself, but she had forgiven him.  “Sesshomaru?”  He was by her side in the blink of an eye. He’s been like that since they had returned to the castle, at her beck and call. In the beginning it was nice, but now... now he was just torturing himself.  “Is something the matter?” he asked, as worry etched in his features. “The child?” He reached for her stomach only to stop. “I will fetch the healer,” he said quickly, turning from her.  “Sesshomaru, stop.”  His shoulders went taut and his arms seemed to droop at his side as he stopped mid stride.  Her eyes stung with tears as she watched his reaction. She really hated seeing him look so defeated. If that was the right way to put it.“I’m fine. Come, sit,” she beckoned.

She took his hand. It was tense. He was tense. Her fingers tentatively messaged his own until she was sure he was somewhat relaxed and placed it on her stomach. His face lit up when he felt the small thump of a kick from the little one. “You need to stop blaming yourself,” she said bluntly, jumping to the point. He tried to pull his hand away but she held it there. “Neither of us knew, and since we have been back you haven’t touched me and you keep running yourself ragged.”

“It is not that simple,”  he sighed. “But it is,” she urged. “I have already forgiven you. Why can’t you accept it and forgive yourself?”  He didn't answer her. “I also thought about killing him,” she whispered sadly, ashamed of the thought. She understood how he felt, but both of them were tricked. The astonishment on his face brought back the shame she had felt when she first learned she was indeed pregnant. “It’s a boy?” That was not the  response she expected.  She chuckled, “Yes. Midoriko told me.” This made him smile. “Wait a minute. If it were a girl…?”

“I would have been just as happy,” he interjected quickly before giving her a kiss. “Knowing what sex our child will be has satisfied my demons more baser instincts.” She nodded at his explanation but the short kiss had left her swooning. She had really missed his touch and it was more than evident that he had missed hers too just by the way he attacked her lips after seeing the lust filled expression on her face. He pulled apart after a moment, a groan rolling off his lips. “Ana,” he breathed as he slowly brushed his fingers over her cheek. She shivered delightfully  at his touch  as he continued to tentatively skim his fingertips over her body. This. This is what she wanted. She had asked the healer a while ago if it would be possible to have sex and his reply was ‘the more the better’.

She was dripping with anticipation as his fingers worked their way down her body. “Sesshomaru,” she moaned, begging for his cock. It wasn’t long before she was on all fours as he slowly entered her. Her toes curled as pleased washed over her. His grunts and groans were music to her ears as her hormone crazed body sang its praise. They weren’t even going for that long and she could already feel the  heavy wave of pleasure thrumming beneath her skin. Her body trembled as the pulse of pleasure grew, moans rolling off her lips as his cock caressed her insides. Just as she was about to hit home run he slowed his stroke, pulling her up to his chest. His hands wrapped around her stomach as  he slowly grind his hips against her body. Soft moans escaped her lips as he littered her neck and shoulder with  kisses. Her lower abdomen tightened as the sensation of pleasure peaked once more, his slow thrust hitting all the right places. A few moments later her eyes flew open as a sharp pain ran through her shoulder. Not long after a surge of power engulfed her body. Her fingers entwined in his long, silver hair as both power and pleasure rocked her very being until she couldn’t hold on any more. A loud moan rang in the air, her body twitching against his own as evidence of her gratification trickled down her thigh.

The world was spotted with little black dots, her legs shaking as they tried to keep her  body upright. She hadn’t realized he had removed his fangs until she felt his tongue lapping against her skin. “Sesshomaru?” she called out groggily. He removed himself from her before turning her on her side so she could get some rest. “I love you,” he told her before she found herself drifting off to sleep.

A sharp pain woke her from her sleep. She was on her back, she realized. Perhaps the baby was uncomfortable. As she turned to lay on her side the pain came again, centering first around her belly button before running down her pelvis and to her back. Her breath hitched as the pain ran its course, her body slowly relaxing as it ebbed away. After some deep breaths she turned to wake her mate only for him not to be there. A chill of fear ran down her spine for a brief moment before she realized that he had returned. “I’m sorry. I was out in the garden. I didn’t want to wake you. Is everything alright? I sense you are in pain.” She nodded her response as another wave of pain took its course. “I should send for the healers.”

“No. Not yet,” she interrupted. “The pain isn’t that bad and besides, my water hasn’t broken yet .”

“Are you sure?” he asked. “Yes," she replied," but I want to go outside. A little walk and some fresh air would be nice right now.” He helped her up, draping his fur around her as they made their way to the garden. The coolness of the early morning air was just what she needed. They walked amongst the flowers silently, stopping ever so often as she endured the pain of yet another contraction. It really wasn’t that bad now that she was outside in the cool of the night. As they continued their trek she could sense his growing worries. “Sesshomaru?”  A stiff hum was his reply. “The baby and I are both going to be fine.” She felt him relax ever so slightly. Perhaps his worries won’t cease until after the birth, which was quite understandable. If she was being honest with herself, she was giving herself a little encouragement too.

“I want to sit,” she said after a moment when another contraction came. This one, however, was different. Not only was it longer, but it was painful to the point that she was doubled over as tears stung her eyes. Before she knew it they were back in the room and not too long after that there was a pool of water dripping down her thighs. Everything moved rather quickly after that. Her mate had taken control of the situation and took her to the room the healers had prepared for her to birth the young one.  Blocking out the sudden rise in chatter Ana tried to focus on her breathing until she heard Mitzuki ordered Sesshomaru to get out. “I don’t want him to leave,” she begged, panic in her voice. This was her first labor, and even if it wasn’t she would still want her mate to be by her side. “I’m sorry Ana, but he cannot stay.”

“Why?” she asked, confused. Mitzuki gave her a sad smile. “Normally Inu demons birth their pups in their true demon form and normally it is just the mates alone. Since you are human it's different and more than likely the child will be in human form.  From what I have been told about human birthing you will have to be checked several times until it is time for you to push. If Sesshomaru sees what is being done to you… let’s just say there won’t be a healer anymore.”

“But-” she tried to reason but the demoness stopped her  by continuing, “I know this may be hard, but this is not something he will be able to control because it is his first child. It won’t be too hard. Just think of this as a sort of training for him to control himself.” Ana tried once more to reason, but Mitzuki kept right on it, “I have informed him about all of this already, my dear and he knows he needs to keep his demon in check for both you and the child's safety and besides, I will be here.” She nodded her head in defeat and understanding, trying her best to focus on her breathing while praying that all will be well for both her and her child.

The hours ticked on slowly as the pain grew. Modesty was tossed to the wind as she was continually checked only to be told each time that her cervix wasn’t wide enough. No amount of low dosed pain relief tea was helping by late morning and by early afternoon she gave up trying her best to keep her reserve. On the other side of the castle, Sesshomaru tried his best to keep his yokai at bay, but after coming very close to unleashing all of hell in his castle he found himself condensing into a beam of light and finding his way to his brother's village.

“Hey!” he heard as he caught his brother who came tumbling out of his tree. “Would ya put me down! I can land on my own ya know.” He released him. “Why are you here and where is Ana?” The mere mention of his mate’s name had him tense up. “She is in labor,” he simply answered. "Well, shouldn’t you be there with her?” was Inuyasha’s question. Yes, yes he should, but… “I would if I could.”

“What does that mean?” This conversation was already giving him a headache. “Humans and Inu demons give birth differently.” For a moment there was a pause before a look of understanding graced his brother’s features. “Oh, you mean you can’t control yourself.” He really wanted to wipe that smirk off his face, but that could wait for another time. He turned to Inuyasha, “I came here because I need a distraction. Spare with me.”  His little light trick only put a small dent in his demonic energy. Sparing with his brother should both distract him and tire him, which could help him better control himself. “Alright. No problem.”

Back at the castle Ana couldn’t help but wonder why her baby hadn’t made an appearance yet. She was hot, tired and quite frankly ready for this to be over with. Every time she tried to take a short nap the baby would move or another contraction would hit. She knew that some females stayed in labor for many hours and she had hoped that she wouldn’t have been one of them, but here she was. For heaven's sake her water had broken so why was it still taking so long. Tears started to stream down her cheeks as another contraction hit. Not too long after that the healer came to check her, only to tell her once again that she wasn't ready. “I know this must be hard for you Ana,” Mitzuki empathized, wiping a strand of hair from her face. “I just want to see my baby and have my mate by my side,” Ana replied as new tears began to develop. “I know my child, but first children always take their time. Even in my demon form  Sesshomaru refused to come out. I was in labor for almost 24 hours before he decided to grace the world with his presence.” That  made Ana laugh, albeit a little. She could just imagine a baby Sesshomaru, just as stubborn as he is now, refusing to be born.  “Just try to relax, he will come when he is ready.” Ana nodded feeling a little less frustrated.

Several hours later as the sun waved its goodbye on another day and as the moon rose to take command Ana could feel a strong tug. “A blood moon,” Mitzuki mused looking out the side window. What the hell does that have to do with anything. A loud groan rattled the walls of the room as a huge contraction raked Ana’s body. The healer was by her side in no time, checking to see if this was it. After a moment Ana was given the nod of approval and with joyace tears she followed the instructions of the healer until there was a huge release of pressure and out came her baby. The screaming child was given to her for immediate skin to skin contact. Ana wept for joy as she held her son, tentatively rubbing his back in an effort to calm him down some.

In Edo the spare came to an abrupt end. One moment Sesshomaru was clashing swords with his brother and the next he was back in light form traveling back to his castle. He had felt a new presence in the world and no doubt it must have been his son. Swords put away and hair pulled back, he entered the birthing room only to stop in admiration of his mate and son. They were both asleep. “She was strong,” he mother commented as she stepped in after him. “She didn’t want to give him a name until you were here.” He hummed his approval. “Funny how he was born on  the night of the blood moon,” she commented as she exited the room.  A name instantly came to mind. “Ketsueki,” he whispered. He sat next to her, allowing both himself and his demon to savor the scent of their son and mate. “That name is most fitting,” he mused as he looked at the red moon on his son's forehead.

It was a couple of hours before either mother or child stirred, the soft fusses of the baby a sure indication of his hunger. He helped her get comfortable, placing pillows under her for support. He lifted his son from his place of rest, enjoying the weight of him in his arms, but immediately passed him to his mother when he began to show his agitation. “He’s going to be quite adamant,” she chuckled as she guided him to her chest. She took in his features, the red moon adorning his forehead while two maroon stripes littered his cheeks. His head was full of soft silver curls. The tips of his ears were a bit darker than the rest of his body which told her that he would not be as porcelain white as his grandmother had thought  he would be. That will be quite a surprise for them.  “How does the name Ketsueki sound?” her mate asked, pulling her from her stares.  She thought for a moment, wondering why that name was his choice until she looked at her son's moon mark and remembered what Mizuki said. "Is it because of the blood moon last night?"  He simply nodded. She smiled at her son, his  round cheeks puffing as he fed. "My little Ketsueki." A smile graced his features as he continued to suckle and for a moment she wondered if it was because he liked his  name or if he was simply enjoying his feeding.

ooOoo

His fingers ran across the tattered photo of his mate and their 12 children. She had indeed accomplished the task she had set out to do which was give him a large family.  He knew the reason for her passing. After all, this was her era and her soul had to return to its original vessel for her to be born. Even knowing all of this, it still hurt just thinking about it. "You know you can simply stop her. Today is the day." He looked up at his first born. Oh how time did fly. "We all agreed that this is for the best and besides, if I'm correct we should all still be here when you return."  He knew what his son was implying. If  he prevented his mate from going to the past, the events that had already occurred between him and his mate could possibly still live on.

He had been torn between saving his mate and keeping his children alive. These types of temporal interferences were quite unpredictable. "If you don't go for mother then I will." A growl rumbled his chest at the challenging tone of his eldest. He rose to his feet, towering ever so slightly over his boy. His son never wavered, but he knew it was more of a trifle than a true challenge.  He smirked before patting his son's shoulder.  He truly was a complex blend of himself and his mother. "Look after your siblings until I return."

He didn't think as he sped through the streets of Japan breaking almost all the traffic laws. He remembered this day perfectly and right now he was running late. His car came to a halting stop in front of the stairs of the Higurashi shrine. For a moment he  admitted to himself that he was fearful about potentially changing everything right down to all the experiences he had had with her, but he was here. Couldn't turn back now. Without giving it much more thought he exited his car, using his speed to get him up the flight of stairs without much effort. He turned to the shed where the well was when he heard a clatter.  In a flash he had the door swung open, his hand grabbing hers just as she fell into the well.

He sighed with relief, pulling her out away from the flash of light. He was shaking as they collapsed on the floor, tears stinging his eyes as he held her close. "Tashio-sensi?" she asked, perplexed.  He had officially broken her cycle. "Forgive me. I couldn't let you go again."
