Chapter Six

-xXx

"Lets go Kagome, we're going to be late!" he mother's voice was heard from down stairs.

"I don't know which robe I should wear? The green one or the red one?" she yelled back, looking in the mirror.

"The red one, honey," she said quickly. "Now hurry, we only have ten minutes until we have to leave," she finished. Kagome rolled her eyes.

"It's my graduation, I can be as late as I want to," she mumbled to her self.

"Kagome!" the very annoyed voice of Inuyasha said from the other side of the door as she put the robe over her head.

"What?!" she said equally annoyed, he opened the door.

"You didn't take your medicine," he said from the doorway.

"So," she looked back at the mirror and fixed her hair. "I feel fine."

"You WILL drink those herbs. If you don't …"

"Fine alright," she took the bowl and drank it than through it back at him. "Happy." They just stared at each other.

"KAGOME, INUYASHA!!" her mother yelled. "Lets go!" and the two came down the stairs. "Oh Kagome, you look great." She looked at the hanyou, than back at her. "You almost look like Inuyasha," she teased and put a graduation hat on him, not that he would keep it on. "Now, lets go."

"I think she's more excited about this than I am," she mumbled to Inuyasha, who didn't say anything, she hadn't really expected him to though.

"Higurashi?"

"Sensei Sasiki?" Kagome turned from her friends.

"I want to congratulate you on graduating high school," he smiled.

"Thanks," she returned the smile.

"Although, I noticed that you hadn't applied for any universities?"

"Well, I've decided not to go, at least not yet," she said coolly.

"Oh, I apologies if I were intruding in your business," he said defensively. "It just seemed that since you do so well in History that you would."

"No, it's alright," she smiled. "I just have some things to take care of before I go back to school," the miko hoped that was all the explanation he would need, or ask. He gave her a strange look, than smiled again.

"All right, just don't neglect your studies," she said than looked past her and almost laughed.

"Oooh Kagome," Inuyasha said from behind her, very annoyed. She turned to see Inuyasha leaning against a tree with his arms folded and his eye twitching. Girls were all crowding around him and touching his ears and hair. His claws and anything they could.

"Are those real?"

"What do you do with your hair?"

"It's so beautiful."

"What shampo do you use?"

"Are you wearing contacts?"

"Why aren't you wearing shoes?"

"What is your name?

"Are you taken?"

Inuyasha looked like he was about to kill them all, despite what Kagome said to him.

"It looks like the Inu-hanyou can't handle a bunch of human girls," Sasiki laughed. Kagome looked as if she didn't hear him, or if she just ignored him all together. She was fuming and marched over the where Inuyasha was.

"Hello," she said in an angrily sweet tone. The girls stopped and looked her in disgust. Inuyasha still looked annoyed beyond all point of reason.

"Oh it's you," one of them said.

"Aren't you the girl who's never in school?" another one said.

"It's a wonder she even graduated."

"Beat it," Kagome said in a low, monotone voice.

"What was that?"

"He obviously doesn't want your filthy hands near him," she told them. "So get away." They all looked at her then Inuyasha than back at her.

"He's you man?" one of them smirked.

"That can't be, she cant get someone like him," one of the girls said and smiled at Inuyasha. He smirked than growled at her and bared his fangs. The girl backed away. Kagome, really annoyed and pissed off, clenched her fists and she didn't realize her miko powers were circulating around them. Everyone else did, however.

"What in the Hell is that?" one of the girls asked.

"I don't know!" another one said in a panicked voice.

"That's enough," Sasiki said. Kagome snapped out of it. "Girls leave the boy alone," he told them. They all stuck up their noses and walked away. He looked at Kagome.

"Kagome," Inuyasha said. "Who's that," he asked her.

"Oh, this is sensei Sasiki," she told him.

"That's something you don't see often," he laughed. The two looked at him in confusion.

"What?"

"A human miko protecting a hanyou,"

"What did you say, neko?!" Inuyasha practically threatened.

"I didn't mean anything by it. It's just that even after hundreds of years, that still doesn't happen," he said defensively.

"Keh," the hanyou folded his arms.

"Where are you from?" he asked, suddenly and took a closer look at Inuyasha. "You remind me of someone…"

"Sorry sensei, we're in a hurry," Kagome interrupted and started to leave. Inuyasha took one more look at him than followed her.

"What a day," Kagome said and collapsed on her bed, and on her cat not knowing he was there. "Oh, sorry Buyo," she said and sat up. The cat ran out of the room and passed Inuyasha, who mumbled something about evil cats. "Hi, Inuyasha," she said and laid back down to look at her ceiling. He walked in and sat at the end of her bed.

"You should get some rest," he told her.

"I can't believe to night's the last night I'll be human," she said to the ceiling.

"At least you won't die," he said and laid on his back, also looking at the ceiling.

"Thank you, Inuyasha," she turned her head to look at him.

"For what?" he looked at her confused.

"For coming here and keeping me company so I didn't have to go through this alone," she said. Inuyasha stared at her for a while, than looked the other way.

"Keh, I still need you to look for the Jewel shards," he said, but his tone didn't hold the same arrogance that it always did whenever he said that. Kagome smiled and turned her body around to put her head on his stomach. Inuyasha's head turned so fast that it looked like his neck would snap.

"Thanks," she said and closed her eyes. Inuyasha stared at her, than pulled the blanket up to her chin and put his arm around her shoulders.

"Kagome, I would never let anything happen to you," he said to the sleeping girl. He thought about her and his mother's book for the good part of the night.

"Ka-go-me!!" Souta sang as he walked in his sister's room, he loved doing that. He laughed as both Inuyasha and Kagome jumped.

"Souta!" Kagome growled and pulled the blanket off her head.

"Come on Kagome," he said. "Kaasan said we're going to have fun all day," he finished and ran out of the room.

"What the hell was that about?!" Inuyasha asked, rubbing the lump on his head.

"I don't know," she answered going to her dresser. "Okaasan must be planning something today," she took the clothes and went into the bathroom. When she was finished, she went down stares with Inuyasha following.

"Kagome," her mother said when they entered the kitchen. "Hurry up and eat, both of you. We have a big day ahead of us."

"But it's only eight in the morning?" Kagome said, sitting at the table.

"We need an early start," she gave Kagome a cup of coffee.

"For what?" Inuyasha spoke.

"Well if this is Kagome's last day as a human, we need to go out and have fun," she said with a smile, the hanyou nodded.

"Where are we going?" Kagome asked.

"I was thinking about going to the fair," she told them.

"Fair?" Inuyasha asked.

"You'll like the fair. It's a lot of fun," Kagome said with a grin. Inuyasha had a confused look plastered to his face.

"KAAGGOMEEEE!!!" a screaming Inu-hanyou yelled.

"Aahhh," was all the laughing miko said, then the ride stopped.

"Kagome," said Inuyasha, who was very dizzy. "What the hell was THAT?!"

"That," she caught her breath, "was a roller coaster," she told him. She smiled sweetly. "You can run faster than that. So, I don't know what you're so angry about." Inuyasha looked at her.

"That thing goes up side down!" he yelled as Kagome still smiled.

"Come on, let's go another ride," she said and grabbed his hand to drag him to the Ferris wheel.

"No," he said flatly.

"We're going on the Ferris wheel, it doesn't go up side down," she mocked.

"N-" before he could finish, he was already seated.

"This isn't so bad, now is it," she asked when they were in the air. There was no comment from the hanyou. He just sat and stared at the setting sun on the horizon, as did Kagome.

"Must have lost track of time," she said in a sad tone. "The day's almost over." She continued to look at the sky. Inuyasha turned to her.

"Kagome," he said to get her attention. "Remember, I said that I'd protect you no matter what?" Kagome nodded weakly, on the verge of tears. "I will still protect you forever, even if you do become part youkai," he finished and tears came to her eyes.

"Inuyasha," she whispered faintly and attached her self to him, she cried in his chest. "Thank you so much," Inuyasha just held her until the ride was over.

"Come on Kagome," said her mother, very annoyed.

"But you know I hate needles," she argued.

"Kagome."

"Alright," she sat down next to Inuyasha.

"Put out your arm," she told him. He did and she wrapped a strip of elastic around his upper arm. She took out a very long needle and Kagome went white. "Now, squeeze this," she gave him a ball. The very long needle pierced his skin and into his vein. "You have very thick skin," she joked.

"Keh," was all he replied. Inuyasha did NOT like the idea of having someone take his blood. If it were different circumstances, said someone would be dead by now.

"Finished," she took the needle out, filled with blood. Kagome only saw the very long needle.

"You are NOT putting that in my arm!" she yelled.

"You're right," her mother said checking it, making sure there was no air in it.

"What?" Kagome was confused.

"It's not going in your arm. It would be too much blood for your arm to handle," she explained.

"Where is the blood going," Kagome was afraid to ask.

"The blood has to go directly into your heart," she said flatly in her doctor voice. Kagome almost fainted.

"N-"

"You have no choice!" her mother said. "Now come over here and lay down!" she demanded and Kagome obeyed. "Inuyasha, come here." He did so.

"Don't you have to give me some thing to go to sleep or something?" she tried to reason.

"Sorry," Kagome didn't think so, "that would slow the heart rate down, we need it to go fast," she said brushing the stray hair out of her daughter's eyes.

"But-"

"I know, I don't want to do this any more than you do," she said with tears coming to her eyes. "I love you," she smiled sadly.

"I love you too, Kaasan," the miko replied, her mother nodded.

"Inuyasha," she went back to her doctor voice. "I'm going to need your strength," she said and pulled Kagome's shirt down, right above her breast. She noticed her scars.

"What," he looked confused. He hoped she wasn't going to asked what he thought she was.

"We need your strength to pierce through the bone and into her heart.

"WHAT??!!"

"It would hurt less," she responded. "And the youkai blood would heal it."

"HELL no!" he yelled at her.

"Inuyasha," Kagome said, "Do it, I had enough of this and I don't want it to hurt worse than it would." He just stared at her, he would have to take the lesser of two evils. He had to hurt Kagome so she could live.

"Alright," he said emotionless.

"Inuyasha," her mother said. "I'll position the needle, you push it in fast," she explained to the hanyou. He nodded. "Ready, go," she finished. Inuyasha held the needle and just stared at Kagome.

"Inuyasha?" someone said, he wasn't paying attention anymore. He was just looking at Kagome.

"Inuyasha?!" His name was said again. He closed his eyes and slammed the needle down hard into Kagome's chest. He didn't remember anything but the sound Kagome's yelling. As soon at the needle was in, her mother injected the blood in her chest. Then quickly took it out and held a lot of gauze pads over it.

"Kagome," her mother tried to calm her down. "You did well," she weakly smiled and held her daughters hand. Her eyes were watery but she didn't cry, for her daughter's sake..

"Inuyasha," Kagome whispered.

"Kagome," he replied.

"I'm tired, I want to go to sleep," she continued weakly.

"All right Kagome, go to sleep," he said.

"I want you with me," he looked at her mother, who smiled and walked out of the room.

"Ok," he nodded, but she was sleeping already. He laid down next to her, careful not to move her. He couldn't go to sleep that night and just watched the woman next to him. He watched as she changed slowly in her sleep, comforting her as she tosed and turned.

-xXx

"Inuyasha?" Kagome whispered as the sun came through the window and woke her up. He wasn't there. "Inuyasha," she repeated, fully awake and looking for him. She got out of the bed and walked into the bathroom.

The sight she saw in the mirror was enough to make her forget about looking for Inuyasha, she almost fainted. Kagome had long thick white hair and white ears. Her left eye was teal, while the right was a gold and red color. She had fangs where her canines were. She could smell fresh coffee and eggs from all the way down stairs. She could hear Inuyasha by the door, waiting for her. She opened the door and just stared at him.

"Inuyasha?!" she whispered with tears coming to her eyes.

"Shush Kagome," he embraced her. "Don't worry, you look beautiful, and I'll help you through this," he stroked her silver hair.

"Thank-you Inuyasha," she finished and returned the hug.
